Abstract:A new method of fault detection based on wavelet transform is presented in this paper. It needs no model of the monitored object. Experimental results on a long petroleum transport pipeline and a model vehicle showed that it is sensitive to faults and robustness to noises.

Abstract:Based on stationary wavelet packet transform and Hilbert transform, the paper proposes a fault detection algorithm, which adaptively extracts the fault characteristic component of the signal. Firstly, the algorithm uses one-level stationary wavelet packet transform to decompose the signal into low- and high-frequency sub-bands. Subsequently, Hilbert transform is used to obtain the instantaneous frequency and instantaneous amplitude of the low- or high-frequency sub-band. Based on the preset frequency and amplitude criteria, the algorithm decides whether to further decompose the sub-band or hold it. Thus the algorithm adaptively selects the path of stationary wavelet packet decomposition, making a multi-resolution spectral analysis on the signal and extracting the characteristic components for fault detection. The simulations show that the algorithm provides sufficient frequency-amplitude fault information with the less computational workloads and has better anti-noise performance.

Abstract:This paper presents a new non-model approach of fault detection via wavelet transform and its application to the fault detection of a long vehicle. Abstract:Noise degrades most existing fault detection methods based on singularity analysis.A method based on wavelet module maxima of the pretreated electric signal is proposed.As wavelet module maxima occur at peaks of signal,the pretreatment removes power frequency periodic components from electric signal and thus avoids misjudgments of fault.Wavelet transform decomposes fault component and noise into different scale spaces,which guarantees the abstraction of fault signature and the de-noising performance.The simplified Mallat singularity detection method not only reduces the computational complexity,but also keeps the localization accuracy.Simulations show that the fault detection method is precise for fault locating and insensible to noise.The method can also be applied to other periodic signal analysis.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new approach to fault detection and location for tires and springs of a missile transporting vehicle. The time-frequency characteristics of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and local maxima of modulus of continuous wavelet transform (CWT) are used, and no model of the monitored object is needed in this method. Experimental results from a model vehicle show that it is sensitive to faults and robust to noise.

Abstract:A fault detection algorithm is proposed to adaptively extract the characteristic component of fault signals in this paper. The algorithm used one-level stationary wavelet packet transform to decompose the signal into low- and high-frequency subbands, whose instantaneous frequency and instantaneous amplitude are calculated by Hilbert transform at the same time. Based on the preset rules of component extraction and signal decomposition, the algorithm adaptively selects the path of stationary wavelet packet decomposition, building the wavelet packet decomposition tree of the signal with a multiresolution spectral analysis. Thus the algorithm denoiseds the signal and extracts the characteristic components for fault detection. The simulation show that the algorithm provides sufficient frequency-amplitude fault information with the less computational workloads and data storage spaces. The algorithm also has a good anti-noise performance.

Abstract:A novel method for bearing fault detection through the sound signal translated from the vibration signal is introduced. The wavelet packet transform is used to preprocess the signal, then the computed wavelet coefficients are divided into clusters accordingly, important frequency ranges have a larger number of clusters than less important frequency ranges. These clusters extract the time-frequency information to get the fault characteristic of the bearing. In order to identify the fault, the method based on rough set theory is adopted. The result from experience proves that fault types can be identified and diagnosed by the above method. Furthermore, it attains nearly the same accuracy, compared with artificial neural network.

Abstract:This paper describes a novel approach based upon discrete wavelet transform for fault detection of aeroengine.By the use of discrete wavelet transform that well localize the characterization of signal both in time and frequency domains,the occurring instants of abnormal status of a sensor in its output signal can be identified.We mainly study aeroengine sensor fault diagnosis based on discrete wavelet transform.According to the decomposition and reconstruction of discrete wavelet coefficients of input and output,we can locate the singularity of signals.And then,by deducting the extreme points corresponding to the input signal,we can detect the sensor fault.It indicates that aeroengine sensor faults can be detected accurately and promptly using this method through a large number of simulations in Matlab.

Abstract:In view of the problem that traditional state chi-square test can't accurately determine the fault duration in soft fault detection, an improved state chi-square test method based on wavelet-transform was presented. Firstly, the signal jumping point was identified by using the decay speed of wavelet transform modulus maxima on the different scales. Then, the detection results were feedback to the Kalman filter. By introducing state correction term to correct the state error, the soft fault duration can be determined by the curve of fault detection. The simulation results show that the proposed method solve the problem of soft fault duration, and greatly improve the accuracy of fault detection.

Abstract:For the purpose of increasing the effectiveness of sensors in aircraft fuel system,the method based on the wavelet analysis of sensor fault diagnosis was improved.With this method,by Multi-Resolution Analysis(MRA) the sensor's output signals,the time and location of drift failure and abrupt fault occurred can be accurately detected,meanwhile,fault diagnosis can be finished according to the modulus maximum of fault singularity and energy variation characteristics on all decomposed wavelet scales of the signal before and after the time fault occurred.Then design intelligent sensor fault diagnosis system based on LabVIEW,by using the data collected in test,we successfully realize several typical fault diagnosis in oil level sensor of aircraft fuel system,this indicates the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:An optimal spatio-temporal hybrid model (STHM) based on wavelet transform (WT) is proposed to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of detecting slowly evolving faults that occur in the early stage and easily submerge with noise in complex industrial production systems. Specifically, a WT is performed to denoise the original data, thus reducing the influence of background noise. Then, a principal component analysis (PCA) and the sliding window algorithm are used to acquire the nearest neighbors in both spatial and time dimensions. Subsequently, the cumulative sum (CUSUM) and the mahalanobis distance (MD) are used to reconstruct the hybrid statistic with spatial and temporal sequences. It helps to enhance the correlation between high-frequency temporal dynamics and space and improves fault detection precision. Moreover, the kernel density estimation (KDE) method is used to estimate the upper threshold of the hybrid statistic so as to optimize the fault detection process. Finally, simulations are conducted by applying the WT-based optimal STHM in the early fault detection of the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process, with the aim of proving that the fault detection method proposed has a high fault detection rate (FDR) and a low false alarm rate (FAR), and it can improve both production safety and product quality.

Abstract:This paper describes a novel wavelet-based approach to the abrupt fault detection and diagnosis of sensors. By the use of wavelet transforms that accurately localize the characteristics of a signal both in the time and frequency domains, the occurring instants of abnormal status of a sensor in the output signal can be identified by the multiscale representation of the signal. Once the instants are detected, the distribution differences of the signal energy on all decomposed wavelet scales of the signal before and after the instants are used to claim and classify the sensor faults. Synthetic data simulated by means of a computer using real-word data from a general-purpose pressure sensor have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Considering the current detection methods are insensitive with soft fault and have large delay problem,by analyzing the basic principle of wavelet singularity being used in fault detection,a algorithm based on modulus maximum principle is proposed in this paper for fault detection of navigation sensors,in this algorithm,only the observation signals of sensors are used to detect fault.The theory of wavelet singularity fault detection and algorithm process are presented in the paper.The algorithm can be used to effectively detect soft faults of the navigation sensors which is difficult to detect and determine the type of faults through the Lipschitz exponent.It can keep the reliability of fault-tolerant integrated navigation system.Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective and practicable.

Abstract:Wavelet fractal technology (WFT) is proposed according to the unity that possesses multiscale decompositions and self-similarity in both wavelet transform and fractal theory. In order to overcome disadvantage of the general method calculating box dimension (BD) of discrete signals, an improved algorithm of BD is given. An empirical formula is derived for choosing the scale-invariant region of periodic or quasi-periodic signals. This technology has been applied successfully to detect looseness fault in the bearing bushing of a turbo-generator set. It is shown that WFT can provide a new effective method to reveal nonstationary fault of mechanical equipment.

Abstract:In this paper,the wavelet transform technique is employed for early-stage damage detection.Accordingly, the wavelet theory is first summarized,and the wavelet transform is then validated to detect structural damage via simulation testing.Subsequently,the damage can be positioned based on the maximal modulus regarding continuous wavelet transform (CWT) coefficient or detailed signal regarding discrete wavelet transform (DWT),i.e.the static or dynamic singularity.In this method,either static or dynamic response signal from damaged structure,rather than undamaged structure,is required for this purpose.Through instantaneous and dynamic signal sampling,this method is used for the finite element (FE) modeling of cracked cantilever to accurately detect the cracking position and quantity.Compared with the traditional methods,this approach possesses feasible,economic and precise strengths.Consequently,the proposed wavelet transform method is proven effective for early-stage structural damage detection.

Abstract:The paper deals with the problem of fault feature extraction from the residual in the model-based control system fault detection and diagnosis, based on the fact that the wavelet transform of a signal will maximise the modulus at its singular point in the transform domain, and the fault error has positive singularity exponent while the noise has negative singularity exponent at the corresponding singular points; the fault error and noise mixed in the residual can be separated from each other by multi-scale wavelet transform, and the modulus maximum can be taken as the fault feature, so that the fault feature becomes clearer and more recognizable and a correct decision as to whether the system fault will take place or not can be correctly made in the transform domain. This makes it easy to detect and diagnose faults in the control system

Abstract:Wavelet analysis is a theory that developed rapidly in recent years and has been successfully applied to image processing and fault diagnosis.The paper expounded the theoretical basis of wavelet analysis and obtained wavelet functions appropriate for fault signal analysis and applied the "energy-fault method" to diagnose engine faults.The eigenvector of a rotor′s vibration platform under enacted fault conditions was successfully extracted by wavelet package transformation.The feasibility of the method was proved by a simulation experiment.Based on diagnosis theory and fault signals,the paper argued that the wavelet analysis of engine fault signals was an innate requirement for engine fault diagnosis.

Abstract:Problems related to the integrated design of robust fault detection (FD) systems are studied. Firstly, a problem of the 2-norm based approaches is discussed, i.e. due to the necessary length of the time window introduced to realize the 2-norm based residual evaluation function of a FD system, the expected optimal performance of the FD system may not be achieved when the system is realized in real applications. Then a new kind of evaluation function based on the absolute value of the wavelet transform (WT) of the residual signal and the corresponding integrated design approach for the FD systems are proposed. Different from the usual 2-norm based approaches whose mathematical basis is the relationship between the whole energy of the output and input signal of a dynamic system, a relationship between the instant power of the WT of the output signal and the energy of the past input signal of a dynamic system is established and further used for the FD system design. It solves the problem in the 2-norm based method, and the resulting FD system is easy to implement, and can detect faults very rapidly with a low miss detection ratio
