Abstract:As to the status of water shortage and severe water pollution,developing an effec-tive strategy to ensure the water security is one of the urgent issues. Membrane-based water treatment is highly focused and studied to ensure the water security due to its high efficiency and easy-to-operate. In this paper,the connotation and status of water security in China were presented,and a detailed review was drawn on the application of membrane technologies to de-velop water resources and reduce wastewater emission. Finally,several suggestions were listed for the development of membrane-based water treatment in water security.

Abstract:The two-stage reverse osmosis membrane was used to prepare pure water for medical use. The pure water was used to prepare concentrated dialysis solution and to prepare ultra pure dialysis solution by ultrafiltration membrane purification finally. The entire process resulted that the concentrations of harmful ions in the ultra pure dialysis solution were significantly lower than the national standard. The residual chlorine concentration was less than 0.01 mg·L-1, the result of bacteria culture was 0 cfu·mL-1 and the endotoxin concentration was 0.03 EU·mL-1. These results have reached the AAMI-2004 standards of ultra pure dialysis in U.S. and can effectively improve the quality of treatment.

Abstract:Seawater desalination is an important way to solve the problem of fresh water shortage.Lower cost can be obtained by utilizing new technology and membrane materials and alternative energy sources.Recent improvements in seawater desalination using multi-stage distillation,multi-stage flash distillation,vapour compression distillation,reverse osmosis and hybrid processes based on membrane technology are reviewed.The possibility of using wind energy,solar energy,nuclear energy and chemical thermal energy is also discussed,finally the trends towards the future of seawater desalination are provided.

Abstract:In the field of water purification, membrane separation technology plays a significant role. Electrospinning has emerged as a primary method to produce nanofiber membranes due to its straightforward, low cost, functional diversity, and process controllability. It is possible to flexibly control the structural characteristics of electrospun nanofiber membranes as well as carry out various membrane material combinations to make full use of their various properties, including high porosity, high selectivity, and microporous permeability to obtain high-performance water treatment membranes. These water separation membranes can satisfy the fast and efficient purification requirements in different water purification applications due to their high filtration efficiency. The current research on water treatment membranes is still focused on creating high-permeability membranes with outstanding selectivity, remarkable antifouling performance, superior physical and chemical performance, and long-term stability. This paper reviewed the preparation methods and properties of electrospun nanofiber membranes for water treatment in various fields, including microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, and other special applications. Lastly, various antifouling technologies and research progress of water treatment membranes were discussed, and the future development direction of electrospun nanofiber membranes for water treatment was also presented.

Abstract:The membrane technologies for liquid separation include microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration reverse osmosis and electrodialysis et al. The separation performances of the membranes processes are expressed as the flux and rejection and the operation modes are divided into the concentration and the diafiltration. There are more than three hundreds of RD research organizations and engineering corporations engaging in the membranes and membrane processes in China. In this paper, the present progress status and development tendency of the membrane technologies in China have been summarized in the fields, such as the desalination of seawater and saline water, the production of drinking water, medical pure water and ultra-pure water used in semiconductor or microelectronics industry, the treatments of wastewaters from electrodeposition and electroplating, food, sanitation, medicine, pharmacy, chemical engineering and metallurgical industries.

Abstract:Photocatalysis-membrane separation coupling technology has been a heavily researched area in water and wastewater treatment during recent years. The membrane separation process allows the photocatalyst to be easily separated, recovered and reused. More significantly, the membrane is efficient to maintain high flux of membranes as the photocatalyst can reduce the membrane fouling problem which is a hindrance in the development of membrane process. Moreover, some synergistic effects can also be produced, and thus the efficiency of water treatment is enhanced greatly. A comprehensive review of photocatalysis-membrane separation coupling technology is conducted with an insight into its configurations, theories involved, characteristics, and factors that influence the coupling technology. In view of the existing problems, the prospects for future development are also proposed.

Abstract:The shortage of water resource has severely impacted on the development of social economy and the enhancement of the people living standard of our nation. Seawater desalination technology is one of the important means to solve current water resource deficient problem. Reverse osmosis membrane process has won the bid in international calling for tenders of seawater desalination, because its low capital invest, low energy consumption, low cost price and shorter construction period in recent years. On basis of a brief introduction of the development history of reverse osmosis membranes, this paper reviews the research progress of the functional materials of reverse osmosis composite membranes, with authors's work in preparation of the functional materials of reverse osmosis composite membranes referred. The possible topics of reverse osmosis membranes in the future investigation are discussed.

Abstract:Effective treatment of oily wastewater, which is toxic and harmful and causes serious environmental pollution and health risks, has become an important research field. Membrane separation technology has emerged as a key area of investigation in oil-water separation research due to its high separation efficiency, low costs, and user-friendly operation. This review aims to report on the advances in the research of various types of separation membranes around emulsion permeance, separation efficiency, antifouling efficiency, and stimulus responsiveness.
