Abstract:The research progress of the utilization of fly ash with high concentration alumina is reviewed.After a summary of properties of fly ash with high concentration alumina,the main methods of utilizationof sintering,acid,alkali,acid and alkali combination method are introduced.The processes,products of the four methods and the research status are described.Advantages and disadvantages of various methods are pointed out and corresponding solutions are proposed.

Abstract:Fly ash, a byproduct of coal-fired thermal power stations, is among the most intricate artificially produced substances. The challenge of its suitable disposal has emerged as both an ecological issue and a squandering of potentially resources. Fly ash has good pozzolanic activity and contains reactive Al and Si components, it has the potential to dissolve under alkaline conditions to form a dense green gel, i.e. alkali activated binder. But, the widespread implementation of fly ash from different sources in generation of products is constrained by the heterogeneity of raw-material supply. In this work, physical performances, chemical-compositions, microstructures, element distribution, crystal structure, chemical-bonds, glassy content, as well as existence form of glassy-phases of eleven fly ashes sourced from different province in China were investigated via FESEM-EDS, XPS, XRD-Rietveld, FTIR, TEM NMR analysis. Then, a reactivity index of fly ash (R value) that concerned the effects of both initial state, particle morphology, internal composition was proposed. R value has been demonstrated to exhibit high predictive accuracy (R2 = 0.81–0.93) for predicting the strengths development of alkali activated products prepared with different activator modules, especially at early period. A further eleven literature datasets were utilized to validated against the accuracy of the predictions. R value facilitates an effective evaluation of fly ashes' fitness for fabricating high-strength alkali activated composites.

Abstract:Coal fly ash, an industrial by-product, is derived from coal combustion in thermal power plants. It is one of the most complex anthropogenic materials, and its improper disposal has become an environmental concern and resulted in a waste of recoverable resources. There is a pressing and ongoing need to develop new recycling methods for coal fly ash. The present review first describes the generation, physicochemical properties and hazards of coal fly ash at the global level, and then focuses on its current and potential applications, including use in the soil amelioration, construction industry, ceramic industry, catalysis, depth separation, zeolite synthesis, etc. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of these applications, the mode of fly ash utilization worldwide and directions for future research are considered.

Abstract:Fly ash is waste which severely affected the healthy of people. To utilize it, the mineralogy properties must be studied. By using multielement chemical analysis, the principle chemical composition was analyzed. By using X-ray, electron probe, spectrum analysis testing methods, the cenospheres which are the main component of fly ash surface morphology and the differences of the components were mainly studied. The research indicated that the fly ash is a high quality material which can be used in the engineering construction.

Abstract:The vast amount of research work and recently new advancement of modelling the fly-ash formation and deposition at abroad have been described in detail, emphasizing explanation of included and excluded minerals' behavior in the furnace, as well as prediction of particle size and composition of the fly-ash. The prediction results of different model have been compared. At the same time, the status of study on fly-ash deposition at home has been briefly presented, and some recommendations being put forward.

Abstract:On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) ash residue a broad overview is given of the recent advances both at home and abroad in the comprehensive utilization of CFB fly ash. Owing to its low carbon content and the presence of a certain hydraulic activity the CFB ash residue can be used directly for the fabrication of cement or building materials. However, the high carbon content and poor hydraulic activity of the fly ash make it necessary to develop some relevant technologies prior to using it. The latter include the pelleting of fly ash for its return burning, the direct sending back of fly ash, and its sending back for desulfurization following its hydration, its use as a raw material for the manufacture of cement and also as soil ameliorative agents, etc.

Abstract:The chemical compositions,mineral compositions and thermal behavior of the circulating fluidized bed boiler(CFBB) desulfurated fly ash and pulverized fly ash were investigated.The results showed that the CFBB fly ash manifested as high content of CaO and higher LOI.The major minerals present in the CFBB desulfurated fly ash were quartz,calcite and anhydrite with little mullite.There was a little glass phase in the CFBB desulfurated fly ash.While,the main mineral phases of pulverized fly ash were mullite and quartz.Observed by SEM,CFBB.

Abstract:China's coal-fired power plants produce about 600 million tons fly ash annually, which has caused severe economic and environmental problems.This paper first describes briefly the production and utilization status of coal fly ash in China.Then it analyzes the main challenges to the fly ash utilization in China due to the conflict between the huge amount production of fly ash and the depressed consumption of fly ash, as well as the increasing driving forces in the environmental protection.Subsequently, the new developments of fly ash utilization in China, including valuable elements extraction, geopolymer production, fly ash-based ceramics synthesis and soil desertification control are introduced in detail.

Abstract:Coal fly ash, an industrial by-product, is derived from coal combustion in thermal power plants. It is one of the most complex and abundant of anthropogenic materials, and its improper disposal has become an environmental concern and resulted in a waste of recoverable resources. Coal fly ash is rich in alumina, making it a potential substitute for bauxite. With the diminishing reserves of bauxite resources as well as the increasing demand for alumina, recovering alumina from fly ash has attracted extensive attentions. The present review first describes the alumina recovery history and technologies, and then focuses on the recovery status in China. Finally, the current status of fly ash recycling and directions for future research are considered.

Abstract:The improving influence of fine fly ash on the properties of low-quality cement is investigated.The results show that concrete which meets the design requirement can be easily produced by complex binder material of low-quality cement and fine fly ash.The concrete produced by complex binder material can meet the design compressive strength,and it also has higher splitting tensile strength and higher density.Meanwhile,the late-age performance of concrete produced by complex binder material is significantly improved.

Abstract:Circulating fluidized bed (CFB)-based coal burning technology is a type of clean coal combustion technology. Owing to its characteristics of low temperature combustion and desulfurization in furnace, the CFB fly ash is quite different from ordinary fly ash. Based on the comprehensive understanding of physical and chemical characteristics of CFB fly ash, this review summarizes the research progress of the application of CFB fly ash in Portland cement, magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) cement, solid-waste–based cementitious material (SWCM), concrete, geopolymer, artificial aggregate, and other building materials. The study shows that CFB fly ash can improve the early physical and mechanical properties and reduce the drying shrinkage properties for cementitious materials. Its unique chemical composition endows it with good application performance in the MOS cement, geopolymer, and SWCM. However, unfavorable characteristics of CFB fly ash, such as loose and porous structure, self-hardening behavior, and expansibility greatly hinder its practical applications in building materials. Therefore, some measures, such as addition of rational water-reducing agent, ultrafine grinding, mixing of ordinary fly ash, controlling the dosage of CFB fly ash, and water-cement ratio, must be taken to improve the negative influence of CFB fly ash on the building materials, in order to expand its application range. This article summarizes the application and research status of CFB fly ash in building materials, aiming at further promoting the research studies on CFB fly ash resource utilization in building materials and improving the efficiency of CFB fly ash resource utilization.

Abstract:Based on the investigation of transmission electron microscope,authors give a basic idea to remove the unburned carbon from fly ash and improve the activity of ash fly by a dry removing carbon technique.The triboelectric separation test indicates that the idea is effective.This test will give beneficial reference for solving the pollution problem arose from fly ash.

Abstract:In China,incineration becomes more and more popular to treat municipal solid waste,during which a lot of fly ash is generated.As hazardous waste,fly ash needs further treatment before landfill or reuse.This paper analyzes the physical and chemical characteristics of fly ash and discusses the issues from conventional treatment process including cement stabilization,chemicals stabilization,acidic solvent extraction and melting.When fly ash is directly used for cement production,concrete and road pavements,it will cause new environmental issues due to heavy metals and salts that fly ash contains.Waterwashing can remove most of the soluble salts and the concentrations of heavy metals in leachate from baked water-washed fly ash will be much lower than that from baked original fly ash.The technology of washing-and-baking has a good promising prospect for fly ash utilization.

Abstract:The objective of this work is to present the research progress and applications of fly ash-based geopolymer, and summarize the future research hotpots. Since 1998, scholars have made important contributions to the study of fly ash-based geopolymer, and a large number of research studies have been published. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis for the determination of the research status, trend, and history of fly ash-based geopolymer was conducted in the present study. A total of 4352 publications on fly ash-based geopolymer were collected between 1998 and 2022, with an increasing trend year by year. China and Australia are the largest contributors to the field, and the research institutions in each country cooperate closely. In addition, the most contributing research areas are MATERIALS SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, and CONSTRUCTION & BUILDING TECHNOLOGY. The keywords including fly ash, compressive strength, and mechanical property are the most frequently appearing words. On the whole, the development of fly ash-based geopolymer could be divided into three stages including the replacement of ordinary Portland cement, the development of multifunctional materials, and the reduction of environmental impact by the conversion of solid waste. This overview could provide an important guidance for the development of fly ash-based geopolymer.

Abstract:A robust anti-corrosive coating has been prepared by using functional fly ash with excellent interface binding strength. Molecular cross-linking design and surface augmentation techniques improve the anti-corrosion capabilities of functional fly ash coatings. The epoxy group produced by functional fly ash cross-links with the iminoamino group of isocyanate, resulting in prominent shielding functions and mechanical property improvements. In comparison with pure polyurea coating, it can improve the impedance modulus by 1000 times. This study is expected to provide new insights into the preparation of functional fly ash coatings with a unique internal cross-linking effect.

Abstract:Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash contains highly toxic heavy metals and polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs), which are a type of hazardous waste. The pollution characteristics of fly ash have changed with the development of stoker grate incinerators and the fly ash treatment technology; however, no research has been focused on this in recent years. In this study, 12 fly ash samples were collected from 9 grate power plants in southeastern China, and their PCDD/Fs and heavy metal concentrations were determined and compared to previous fly ash data. The PCDD/Fs concentration in fly ash was in the range of 0.002-0.051 ngI-TEQ/g, with an average of 0.027 ngI-TEQ/g. Furthermore, 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HpCDD and OCDD made the most significant contributions to PCDDs. The distribution of 10 dioxins exhibited bimodal, unimodal, and normal characteristics. Linear fitting demonstrated a strong correlation between toxicity and 1,2,3,7,8-PentaCDD, 1,2,3,7,8-PentaCDF, and 2,3,4,7,8-PentaCDF. Concerning heavy metals, Pb poses a significant environmental risk. This is the first time that fly ash treated with a chelating agent has been thoroughly analyzed, which is vital for understanding the pollution level and treatment of fly ash derived from current power plants.
