Form and Structural Properties of a New Lattice Shell String Structure

Abstract:This study proposes a new type of annular lattice shell string structure with inner and outer truss torus that can reduce the space occupied by the roof structure and be easily covered by a rigid roofing material. Three types of annular structures, namely, ribbed, sunflower and schwedler patterns, are presented. Based on the local analysis method and nodal equilibrium equations, the shape determination of the structural cross section is put forward. Then, a simplified calculation method is proposed for the initial pre-stress of a ribbed lattice shell string structure. A static experiment for an actual project is introduced. A ribbed annular structure with a span of 100 m is taken as an example, and its static behavior under full-span load is analyzed. To better understand the structural characteristics of this type of structure, the elasto-plastic ultimate load-carrying capacity is detected under a uniform full-span load. The effects of different pre-stress levels and types of lattice shell are investigated. The results show that the annular space lattice shell string structure, which has excellent integral rigidity and higher ultimate load-carrying capacity, has a long-term application prospect.
