Abstract:Although STEP support the complete representation of product throughout product life cycle, it only contain necessary information about product modelling, such as geometry and topological representation, form feature representation,and do not provide any support for the full representation of parts of which a product consists. In contrast, ESO 13584 standard provides a representation of parts library information together with the necessary mechanisms and definitions to enable parts library data to be exchanged. At present, almost all CAD systems have part libraries in order to speed up the process of designing products. However, there is a variety of differences in representation of part library possibly defined by developer. local and national standardization organization. As a result, this difference has side effect on exchange of part library between different CAD systems. Based on ISO 13584, the paper present a strategy for exchange of part library between different CAD systems, which is implemented on top of BYL-CAD system.

Abstract:The paper attempts to overcome the difficulty of reusing existing CAD resource in network CAD systems using network migration technologies based on Web Services.A web services network architecture with J2EE as the development platform is proposesed.The interactive function modules are arranged in client machines with Active X.The other modules are used in Web Service with JNI in server machines and data is exchanged by XML.The migration of a textile CAD system is achieved with this method to give a solution to network migration of more sigle-computer applications.
Automated Analysis of Differences in the Functionality and Performance of 3D CAD Systems for Collaborative Design

Abstract:3D CAD systems are widely applied in collaborative design, but different 3D CAD systems may have differences when performing the same functionality, which may cause potential errors in subsequent manufacturing and processing. This paper proposes an automated analysis method to determine differences in the functionality and performance of different 3D CAD systems based on a uniform interface. A hierarchical comparison method is proposed to automatically analyse the differences between the 3D CAD models generated by different 3D CAD systems in the same testing program, based on which the differences in the functionality of these 3D CAD systems can be analysed. The performance data of different 3D CAD systems are also recorded and compared. In the end, three 3D CAD systems are tested and analysed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:The product exchange data technology is an important base for a heterogeneous collaborative design. A new feature-based CAD data exchange technology is presented, which is based on mapping of modeling function set. This approach ensures efficient data exchange among heterogeneous CAD systems, and high-level design intent of designer is reserved. This paper put forwards a collaborative design system which based on the feature-based CAD data exchange. Some key technologies, modeling sharing, collaborative design agent are researched. Lastly, collaborative design-implementing is proposed.

Abstract:ISO 13584 (I.e. PLIB) is an international standard for the representation and exchange of CAD part libraries. It aims to provide an application-independent mechanism to enable the share of part library information between applications. In this paper, the approach of modeling part library conforming to ISO 13584 is presented. Also, a prototype of part library management system, I.e. Abstract:In order to implement the share and reuse of parts resource in networked collaborative design, method combining standard technology with XML to build parts library was put forward. At first, based on PLIB the conceptual model and hierarchical organization of parts resource were built. Then, the formalized-expression and storage for parts resource adopting tabular layouts of article characteristics were implemented. Abstract:The difficult problem of how to expand the parts library dynamically is analyzed.Model parameters-driven part design method is proposed.Taking the injection mold parts as an example,the parts parameters′ complexity is analyzed.The single inheritance structure method is proposed to describe the parts parameters,and the multilevel data storage structure is proposed as the way to store the parts parameters,so that the 2D table(or complicated tree-like table) is simplified as a linear data structure.Each record of this data structure contains only one parameter for the parameter control relation.In such a way,the serial and standard part library is constructed which can be expanded dynamically.With this part library construction method,offline edit function of the 3D parts is realized.

Abstract:ISO 13584,i.e. PLIB, provides a representation of part library information together with the necessary mechanisms and definitions to enable part library data to be exchanged, used and updated. The paper gives an overview of the architecture of the standard and the relationship between ISO 13584 and STEP.Finally,the guideline for introducing ISO13584 to China's industry is given. Also, the key to building an national part library information system based on ISO 13584 is dealt with in detail.

Abstract:It is necessary to use libraries of parts when using CAD software. But, deficiencies and problems exist in most libraries, so we developed a part management system called GS-PM. Based on features, but not geometric information, it not only improves efficiency but also enables some applications of higher levels, for instance, the parts can be used in different CAD software. This part library can work in client/server mode to share information. It can also be applied to establish a customized visual part library (a Web part library), which can build parts dynamically according to the user's needs

Abstract:In order to reuse the CAD data efficiently, the paper presents an effective method for extracting mechanical part information from existing mechanical engineering drawings produced by CAD software. Characteristics of the forms in the engineering drawings are analyzed. A new method to represent arbitrary forms with matrix is proposed, which makes it easy to extract form frames. Based on the form frames, the part information is obtained. In addition, a practical software tool is briefly introduced, which can be used to extract part information from AutoCAD produced engineering drawings automatically.

Abstract:In this paper, a web-based parts library management system - webParts is studied. WebParts allows engineers and designers to search for component information semantically and construct digital product design chain according to the information. WebParts is built based on PLIB standard (ISO13584) and "tabular layouts of article characteristics technology"(GB/T10091). According to the PLIB standard, a dual description method (semantic description and logical expression level) is used to express component information. The data dictionary (ISO13584-42) is used to description component information at semantic level. Because the typical structure and function feature are not described explicitly in component data dictionary (PLIB ontology), a semantic feature description dictionary (ontology) is added in the data dictionary. At logical description level, a tabular layouts of article characteristics is extracted from PLIB dictionary (especially the part characteristic) according to some rules. At last, three kinds of part search method provided by webParts are introduced.

Abstract:This paper presents an operation-based exchange mechanism for interoperability in heterogeneous CAD collaboration. The mechanism different from STEP-based exchange mechanism facilitates the engineers to exchange design information in distributed environment with shared semantic operations instead of model data, and to synchronously or asynchronously reconstruct the design process by executing the semantic operations in native CAD system. The proposed architecture based on this mechanism is developed to integrate traditional CAD systems and multimedia tools, and to provide essential collaborative support functions. The operation-based collaborative design system is applicable to many interactive design activities such as remote design review and online collaborative design.

Abstract:On the Pro/E platform,based on the multi-layered parametric technology composed of component level,part level and feature level,through the integration of many secondary development technologies such as Pro/Toolkit,UDF and Pro/Program,the intelligent standard parts library system was constructed.This system can be compatible with the standard parts in part and assembly,meanwhile,by combination with the Pro/E assembly positioning,the functions such as the additional processing on the standard parts and automatic drilling are achieved so as to enlarge the application range of the intelligent standard parts library and improve its intelligentialize.

Abstract:In this article,a multi-CAD platform plug-in parts library system,using Kernel/Shell technology,COM technology and combined with VC++and VB.net mixed programming technology,is designed.In this system,the kernel function is independent from the specific CAD software system and the availability of standard parts library is realized and verified on Pro/E platform.This system combines the functions of standard parts selection,parametric modeling,parts positioning and automatic generation of BOM table functions.It is simple and of high intelligence.

Abstract:In mechanical product design, designers usually reuse a large number of standard parts and commonly used typical structures accumulated in long-term industry design practice. In this paper, a flexible part library system is proposed to promote the flexibility of PLS. The system uses a flexible part information presentation and User dynamic interface to realize the parameter diversity, and can adapt different CAD and DBS with four layer framework and Interface Oriented Programming. At last, a clamp part reusing is taken as a case study to show the flexibility and intelligence of the system.
