Abstract:The second development of I-DEAS greatly extends the capabilities of the software.The flexibility of the software is increased as the element of user-defined program joins.The technology of parameterized modeling was introduced based on the application development of I-DEAS.An example of sensor was used to show that parameterized modeling was realized,applying I-DEAS's API: Open Link and Open I-DEAS as well as the program.The technology of parameterized modeling basee on I-DEAS is great importance to the increasement of parts' design and development efficiency.
Automated Analysis of Differences in the Functionality and Performance of 3D CAD Systems for Collaborative Design

Abstract:3D CAD systems are widely applied in collaborative design, but different 3D CAD systems may have differences when performing the same functionality, which may cause potential errors in subsequent manufacturing and processing. This paper proposes an automated analysis method to determine differences in the functionality and performance of different 3D CAD systems based on a uniform interface. A hierarchical comparison method is proposed to automatically analyse the differences between the 3D CAD models generated by different 3D CAD systems in the same testing program, based on which the differences in the functionality of these 3D CAD systems can be analysed. The performance data of different 3D CAD systems are also recorded and compared. In the end, three 3D CAD systems are tested and analysed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:Combining the flexibility and ease of use of paper and pencil with the processing power of the computer, computer aided sketching design(CASD) technology specially suits for conceptual design and can help designer write down design ideas rapidly. For many years it has been one of the key issues on which many specialists and scholars have research. Based on application domains of sketching technology, the present situation of CASD is introduced. From four aspects of CASD, that is user interface design, low level sketch process, high level sketch interpretation, 3D sketching modeling, research method of some key technologies of CASD are analyzed. The development tendency of CASD is predicted.

Abstract:With the advance in virtual reality applications, garment industry has strived for new developments. This paper reviews state-of-the-art CAD methods in 3D garment design. A large range of techniques are selected and organized into several key modules which form the core of a 3D garment design technology platform. In each module, basic techniques are presented first. Then advanced developments are systematically discussed and commented. The selected key modules – digital human modeling, 3D garment design and modification, numerical integration of draping, 2D pattern generation, geometric details modeling, parallel computation and GPU acceleration – are discussed in turn. Major challenges and solutions that have been addressed over the years are discussed. Finally, some of the ensuing challenges in 3D garment CAD technologies are outlined.

Abstract:Mechanical design have experienced a long process of development, the improvement of design method and optimization method have always been the pursuit of any designer. In recent years, introduction of CAD/CAE have increased greatly the speed of design and experiment, making mechanical design undergo a fundamental leap. However, the whole process: design-trial-improvement, still needs manual control to complete, designers still face the problem of complex repeating process. In views of this bottleneck, we will conduct parametric modeling on complex mechanical system in PRO/E, and let key parts import into ANSYS to be flexible .Then, we will build and analyze rigid-flexible mixture virtual prototyping in automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. At last, we will integrate this process in ISIGHT3.5, exploring design-trial-improvement integrated optimization and simulation method through the optimization of the size of key parts of complex mechanical system.
Parameter Optimization of Roundness Quality Control for Machined Parts Based on Grey relational Analysis

Abstract:This study proposes an effective means of applying grey relational analysis based on the Taguchi experimental design method of orthogonal arrays to parameter optimization for a multi-performance characteristics problem.The roundness and surface roughness are important quality performances for machined round parts.In order to get the best quality performance by less experiment search for optimum machining parameters,an orthogonal array was used for the experimental design,optimal machining parameters were determined by the grey relational grade obtained from the grey relational analysis,and the main machining parameters that affect the machining performance can be found by the difference between the maximum and minimum value of the grey relational grade of the machining parameters.Experimental results have shown that the roundness and surface roughness of machined round parts can be improved effectively by the proposed approach.

Abstract:A new approach to develop a parametrization dimension system, a method based on pattern matching and logic reasoning, is presented. By means of the dimensioning function and stored format of Auto CAD, this method can harmoniously match the patterns of dimension designated by the national standards for machining drawing. Next on the basis of summarizing various dimensioning modes of Auto CAD and national dimensioning standards, a new parametrization dimension system is established, so as to achieve artificial intelligence dimensioning and to enable the system to accurately dimension all the modes prescribed by the national standards for machining drawing.

Abstract:Having analyzed 3D parameterized design technique, a produce-level parameterized variant design method was presented based on CAD system, parametric thinking and hierarchical table in database. A parameterized variant design system based on SolidEdge was developed with SolidEdge, Access database and VB, which was to be the realization of this method. The method and system are successfully used in the parameterized variant design of a plastic injection machine.

Abstract:Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2024. Design solution space (DSS) exploration is a pivotal process for comprehending design challenges and identifying diverse solution alternatives based on varying requirements. Computer-aided design (CAD) approaches, such as parametric design, knowledge-based design, and generative design, have proven successful in DSS exploration. However, a comparative study evaluating their performance is lacking in the technical literature. This paper addresses this gap by conducting a comparative analysis of these approaches regarding their performance in exploring DSS. The research begins by providing an overview of parametric design, knowledge-based design, and generative design, establishing the foundation for the study. Six evaluation criteria are identified based on the DSS exploration process. A qualitative analysis is then conducted, considering these criteria, to objectively assess the performance of each modeling approach. The results highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, revealing that DSS exploration success is directly tied to the quantity of implemented knowledge. The results also emphasize the complementarity of those approaches, as their strengths and weaknesses are based on different problem-solving logics, demonstrating the synergy that can be achieved through strategic combinations of them. Additionally, the paper discusses open issues related to DSS exploration, contributing valuable insights for future developments in this field.

Parametric Structural Optimization Of 2d Complex Shape Based On Isogeometric Analysis

Abstract:The geometric model and the analysis model can be uni fied together through the isogeometric analysis method, which has potential to achieve seam- less integration of CAD and CAE. Parametric design is a mainstream and success- ful method in CAD field. This method is not continued in simulation and optimization stage because of the model conversion in conventional optimization method based on the finite element analysis. So integration of the parametric mod- eling and the structural optimization by using isogeometric analysis is a natural and interesting issue. This paper proposed a method to realize a structural optimi- zation of parametric complex shapes by using isogeometric analysis. By the given feature curves and the constraints, a feature frame model is built. Based on the feature frame model, a parametric representation of complex shape is obtained. After adding some auxiliary curves, the feature frame model is divided into many box -like patches in three dimension or four-sided patches in two dimension. These patches are built into parametric patches by using volume interpolation methods such as Coons method. Based on the parametric patches, isogeometic analysis is applied. Thus, the relationships are constructed among the size para- meters, the control points and the physical performance parameters. Then the sen- sitivity matrix could be derived based on the relationships. The size optimization is carried out in the first stage by taking the size parameters as variables. Based on the result of size optimization, shape optimization with the constraints of stress is carried out in the second stage by taking the control points as variables. Serval planar complex shapes are taken as example to verify our method. The results ver- ify that the parametric modeling and structural optimization can be united together without model conversion. Bene fit from this, the optimization design can be exe- cuted as a dark box operation without considering the concrete modeling and ana- lysis by input of the sizes, constraints and loads.

Abstract:With computer technology contentiously improving, parametric design has been playing much more important role in architectural design. Parametric Design, as a design method and a tool arisen with information age, is the most recent trend in architecture. Parametric design tool improvements and wide application options has undoubtedly motivated building structural design and brought up more complex architectural works, especially on nonlinear structures. Sports buildings, due to their special functions, it calls for structures that provide large span. Therefore, there are many technical requirements in the design of sports buildings. Traditionally, sports building form is limited by structural calculation. With improved computer technology, especially parametric design tools, sports building forms become more diversified, complex and nonlinear. Parametric design helps with the dynamic interaction between architects and heir work, consequently achieves quick design and dynamic adjustments of complex structures, simplifies the design process, and finally provides more efficient and direct design method for sports building design. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Abstract:The scale factor of drawing is referred as a crucial parameter during developing the parametric design software.In order to build the standard 2D engineering drawings,a method that the scale factor is properly applied in the program of parametric design is provided.Some problems are dealt with in CAD system that is developed with ObjectARX,such as un-uniformity of the text and dimension,flexible configuration of the several drawings with different scale etc.All of the engineering drawings which are created with the different scale by this CAD system are able to meet the requirements of engineering drawing standards.The different scale drawings of assemblies and parts can be collocated randomly in the same blueprint,but their high of text and style of dimension are assured uniform.
