Abstract:Objective:To improve the ability of understanding and analyzing the features of magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in peripheral vascular occlusive disease. Methods:Two dimensional time of flight (2D TOF), magnitude contrast(with/without gadolinium)and 3D contrast enhanced MRA were performed for nonpulsatile stenotic phantoms at varying degrees(28%?49%?69%)and lengths(1cm?2cm?3cm ). And then their results were compared with conventional angiography(CA) and actual values. Results:The grading accuracy of 2D TOF MRA?MCA?CE MCA and 3D CE MRA for significant stenosis(69%)was 36.4%?9.1%?18.2% and 72.7%,respectively.3D CE MRA was superior to other MRA methods in assessment of the degree of significant stenosis(≥50%)( P 0.001),but still overestimated compared to CA and actual values( P 0.001).In assessment of the length of stenosis, the result of 2D TOF MRA was markedly overestimated( P 0.001)and 3D CE MRA was agreed statistically with that of CA and actual values( P 0.05). Conclusion:3D CE MRA is markedly superior to other MRA techniques in the quality of imaging and assessment of degree and length of stenosis for preoperative diagnosis of peripheral vascular occlusive disease, but overestimation of degree is still unavoidable.
