Abstract:The electrolumenescent thin film cell using 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum as the emitting layer,and aluminum as the cathod was made.Its curves of charactor was measured.The emitting cause was analysed.Meawhile the physical charactor of the organic material was induced.

Abstract:The electroluminescent mechanism of organic thin film is introduced. several kinds of electroluminescent devices were fabricated, and the EL spectra, J-V, B-V, efficiency of the devices were investigated. By the energy band theory, the characteristic changes of all devices are demonstrated. The brightness is changed as the thickness of the hole transport layer and emitting layer are modulated.

Abstract:The electroluminescent characteristics are measured of the organic thin film device using TPD as the hole transporting layer and 8-hydroxyquinoline zinc as the emitting layer. The mechanism of current transport in the organic thin film device is analysed. It is shown that the current generated during electroluminescence is dependent on such factors as the thermal electron injection effect, space electric charge restrict effect, tunnelling effect and resistant effect.

Abstract:Organic electroluminescent devices have attracted much attention recently. A double-layer electroluminescent device, using this-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum and poly (N-vinylcarbazole) as the electron- and hole-transporting layer respectively, has been constructed. By doping the polymer layer with dye molecules, green light emission was observed with the emission peak at 491 nm. And the brightness of the device was measured to be over 200 cd��m-2 at the drive voltage 22 V. The current-voltage and brightness-voltage curves as well as the effect of drive voltage on the emission spectra of the device have also been investigated. It was also found that the light intensity emitted from the device after being stored at room temperature for one week has decreased greatly while the emission spectra shapes remained the same.

Abstract:Abstract Organic light-emitting diodes made with poly( N -vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminium (Alq 3 ) were fabricated. PVK served as hole-transport layer, and Alq 3 played a role of emitting layer. The effect of the thickness of the Alq 3 layer on the brightness and the luminous efficiency of the devices was investigated. When the thickness was around 70 nm, the brightness reached the maximum value, 2300 cd/m 2 . But the efficiency increased with the film thickness of the Alq 3 layer in the range from 26 to 165 nm. The optimum film-forming concentration of the PVK layer was also studied by inspecting the quality of the film by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the film quality of PVK layer was the best when the concentration of PVK solution was 4.0 mg/ml, and the specification of the device fabricated under this condition was also best.

Abstract:We report organic electroluminescence (EL) devices based on a novel emissive molecule, 2-[4'-(N, N-dimethylaminophenyl)]- 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one (MAPQ). A three-layer structure consisting of MAPQ as emissive layer sandwiched between a hole transporting layer, N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)- 1,1-biphenyl- 4,4'-diamine(TPD), and an electron transporting layer, tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminium (Alq(3)), ITO/TPD/MAPQ/Alq(3)/Al gave rise to a greenish-yellow peak located at around 538 nm, with coordinates (x = 0.447 and y = 0.510) in accordance with the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage. An EL external quantum efficiency (eta (ext)) of 0.07% at 125 A m(2) and a brightness of 992 cd m(-2) were observed, and the eta (ext) is nearly constant or stable over a wide range of current densities (3-300 A m(-2)).

Abstract:We investigated the energy transfer and charge trapping (CT) in dye-doped organic light-emitting devices by using the magneto-electroluminescence as a tool. An intra-molecular charge-transfer fluorescent material N,N-diphenyl-4-(9-phenylnaphtho-[2,3-c][1,2,5]thiadiazol-4-yl)aniline was selected as the guest emitter. The tri-(8-hydroxyquinoline)-aluminum and 1,3-bis(9-carbazolyl)benzene were selected as the hosts. Our results demonstrate that as the energy difference between the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)/LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) of the host and the guest (ΔEHOMO/ΔELUMO) increases, the CT becomes more dominant, and the CT cannot be ignored even when the ΔEHOMO/ΔELUMO is small and the emission spectrum of the host overlaps the absorption spectrum of the guest well.

Abstract:Organic electroluminescent diodes with a heterostructure of 9,10-bis(phenylethnyl) anthracene (BPEA) doped poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK)/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq(3)) have been fabricated. The electroluminescence (EL) both from BPEA and Alq(3) were observed when the Alq(3) layer is thin enough. With increasing thickness of the Alq(3) layer, the relative emission intensity of BPEA is gradually decreased. For the thin Alq(3) layer structure, the light emission of Alq(3) becomes more dominant as the applied voltage increases. It is proposed that the electron-hole recombination takes place in both PVK and Alq(3) films. The field-induced quenching theory has also been applied to explain the change of the EL spectra with applied voltage.

Abstract:The progress of information technology promotes the development of new light emissive display devices. As one of great potential display techniques, organic electroluminescent (EL) thin film devices has characterized by the low driven voltage, high fluorescence quantum efficiencies, wide emitting spectrum and physical flexibility, attract much more attentions around the world in the last few years[1] [2]. Different from inorganic electroluminescent thin film device, organic EL thin film device are based on the injection effect for luminescence, that is due to the recombination of electron and holes in the diode junction region, therefore organic EL thin film device is one kind of LED device. It is important to construct an organic thin film diode structure. The currency problem is how to produce an organic LED diode of high lighting efficiency and of long working time. There are two ways to improve the device performance, one is from the material point of view, that is to say by finding out new EL materials, by the different doping methods or by the combination or a new design organic-inorganic compound to arrive the goal; the second way to realize the performance is by improving coating process, or optimization thin film diode structure. In this paper, we present our primary research works in organic EL thin film devices.

Abstract:We demonstrate low threshold, red organic light emitting diodes(OLED) employing perylenetetracarboxylates(TMEP). TMEP is a novel solar cells materials, it has the well electron transfer ability and high temperature resistance. We compare the double layers OLED and the single layer OLED. The optimistic structure of double layers exhibits as low as 5V threshold voltage, the electroluminescent maximum emission is 600nm.

Abstract:Typical organic electroluminescent (EL) devices with triphenyldiamine derivative (TPD) and tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) as the hole transport layer and electron transport layer, respectively, have been fabricated. The EL properties as a function of the deposition rate of the organic materials were investigated. It was found that a TPD deposition rate of around 0.2–0.3 nm/s is the optimum for the maximum luminous efficiency. The optimum deposition rate of Alq3 is 0.3–0.4 nm/s.

Abstract:A novel blue electroluminescent material, tris(2,3-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum complex (Alm23q3) , was synthesized and used to fabricate a double-layer organic electroluminescent (EL) device as an emitting material. A device made of ITO-coated glass/triphenyldiamine derivative (TPD)/Alm23q3/Mg:Ag was fabricated, which emits bright blue light with a maximum luminance of 5390 cd/m2 at 19 V.

Abstract:Several organic electroluminescent devices with different device structures were fabricated based on an organosamarium complex Sm(HFNH)3phen[HFNH=4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6-heptafluoro-1-(2-naphthyl)hexane-1, 3-dione; phen=1, 10-phenanthroline] as emitter. Their electroluminescent properties were investigated in detail. Although the devices with the optimal structure ITO/TPD (50nm)/ Sm(HFNH)3phen (xwt%):CBP (50nm)/BCP (20nm)/AlQ (30nm)/LiF (1nm)/Al (200nm) show high brightness (more than 400cd/m2) and high current efficiency (about 1cd/A), there are emissions from CBP, BCP and even from AlQ existing in the electroluminescence (EL) spectra besides emission from Sm(HFNH)3phen. The reason to this was discussed. The device with the structure ITO/TPD (50nm)/Sm(HFNH)3phen (50nm)/AlQ (30nm)/LiF (1nm)/Al (200nm) exhibits the maximum brightness of 118cd/m2 and current efficiency of 0.029cd/A, and shows emissions from AlQ and Sm(HFNH)3phen at high voltages. However, with the BCP hole-block layer added, the device [ITO/TPD (50nm)/Sm(HFNH)3phen (50nm)/BCP (20nm)/AlQ (30nm)/LiF (1nm)/Al (200nm)] exhibits pure Sm3+ emission in the EL spectra even at high voltages, with the maximum current efficiency of 0.29cd/A and brightness of 82cd/m2.

Abstract:The novel derivates of tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium (Alq3), tris[5-(methyl-malononitrile)-8-hydroxyquinoline]aluminium and tris(2,3-dimethyl-8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium were synthesized. The double-layer electroluminescent devices were fabricated with a novel polymer poly(N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(4-methylphenyl)-1,4- phenylenediamine-1,3-diisopropenylbenzene) as a hole transporting layer and the derivates as an emitting layer, sandwiched between an anode of Mg:Ag and a cathode of indium-tin oxide. Bright blue and yellow electroluminescence emissions were obtained from the devices. The experimental results indicate that a functional group of electron acceptors connected to 8-hydroxyquinoline results in the emission redshift and a functional group of electron donors results in the emission blueshift. Alq3 and its derivates are expected to be used as an emitter to achieve various colour emissions.
