Abstract:Innovative product design is essentially an activity involving creative cognitive thinking. Therefore, research on the innovative design process and of methods, computer-aided innovation tools should be conducted based on systematic exploration based on the principles of innovative cognitive thinking. We aim to uncover some general principles that can serve as a systematic thinking framework for product designers, provide a feasible framework and method of innovative thinking for designers, and provide theoretical and methodological support for further development of computer-aided innovation platforms. This paper summarizes the sources and content of studies on the idea generation and design processes behind product innovation. Specifically, we break down the general innovative design process of products, outlining the cognitive mechanisms and propose an integrated application strategy that incorporates multiple methods. And taking “the solution program to the coking of oily sludge pyrolysis equipment” as an example, this paper demonstrated and verified the effectiveness and practicability of the method and strategy proposed. Based on the results on improvements in the equipment, the designers put forward some creative and implementable design schemes. The entire thinking process was relatively smooth and efficient. The example presented in this paper shows that the proposed method can effectively guide/assist/motivate designers to think creatively.

Abstract:With the rapid urbanization and evident transfer of urban development and planning system from a planned one to a market-oriented one,the Chinese urban planning has encountered an unprecedentedly complex situation.Analysis and research on urban systems with complexity theory have consequently become imperative.Through the analysis of design-oriented and strategy-oriented planning approaches,this study finds that the latter is more effective in a fast-changing urban environment.The major reason is that the strategy-oriented approach is more flexible and is capable of solving the numerous problems in a complex urban system.Therefore,it can multiply social welfare progressively and achieve higher cumulative system utility or better cumulative social welfare.This study finally argues that the design-oriented approach should be replaced by the strategy-oriented one in four ways:(1) the traditional time-driven and design-oriented plans should be replaced by event-driven and strategy-oriented plans;(2) the time range of plans should not be too short or too long,and should take full account of the validity and type of plans;(3) a giant city master plan should be replaced by several small-scale strategic plans;and(4) in addition to physical design,urban planning should include institutional design,such as the formal design of statutes and informal design of criteria.

Abstract:Recent social trends - the diversification of lifestyles, and revitalization of the sharing economy - has led to significant changes in the fundamental functions and residences, particularly in apartments. Therefore, this study aims to define an optimized residential space by analyzing housing forms and lifestyle change factors. The study further categorizes the characteristics and operation system in an integrated living space including the integrated experience design characteristics and organization system for service content development and operation. The study scope and methods to classify the characteristics and systems of integrated experience design in integrated housing are as follows: First, the characteristics of changes in housing forms and lifestyles were defined through literature and previous research. Second, in-depth interviews were conducted, and the study direction was established using the analyzed factors of space experience design. Third, the structure concept of living platforms and the systems for implementing experience design were classified using the actualized space experience design characteristics. This study focuses on the basic concepts and systems for implementing integrated experiences in residences. Subsequently, it approaches the direction and systems for changes in housing as a unified platform. This study provides a framework that can be theorized using the experience design system for living spaces derived from its results.

Abstract:The construction industry consumes a great deal of energy and causes environmental pollution, especially the interior design of the construction industry because the lower degree of automation brings more ecological problems. Thus, intelligent design and automated manufacturing are essential for interior design, as they can increase efficiency and reduce environmental pollution for sustainable development. This study proposes a new method of intelligent design and automatic manufacturing based on Grasshopper (GH) and proves its effectiveness in interior design through practice. The proposed method automatically generates suitable drawings and three-dimensional models by GH instead of manual drawing, thus improving design efficiency and quality. The construction cost calculation is conducted simultaneously with the design while the cost control is completed in the design stage. Then the design is handed over to the computer numerical control factory to realize high-precision automatic manufacturing. Automatically manufactured components are installed on-site instead of manufactured, making the process more environmentally friendly and reducing the construction period. The results show that the application of this method in interior design helps improve design efficiency and quality and has cost-saving and sustainability advantages.

Abstract:: I n today's world architectural design trend, combining traditional cultural elements with modern design concepts has become a new trend. This paper is to discuss the integration and innovation of traditional cultural elements in modern architectural creation, and to analyze its use and influence in modern architectural creation. First of all, this paper combs the history and cultural value of traditional cultural elements, and analyzes how to integrate the traditional elements into modern architectural design and its innovation. Combined with specific cases, it illustrates how to combine traditional elements and modern design concepts to reflect modern functional requirements without losing the traditional flavor. On this basis, the influence and potential value of this design trend for future architectural design are discussed.

Abstract:Interactive architecture is deemed as a real-time narrative medium, able to reconnect and renew the relationships between participants (users) and the surroundings to help the explore the irown motivations,inspirations decisions,and outcomes.The sensor based, human-computer (machine) integrated architecture can transform and uplift people’s daily life in entirely new ways, by strategically unlocking the potentials that technological innovations bring. This paper intends to provide a platform for further research and experimentation in the realm of interactive architecture, to encourage rethinking of the relationship between human desires and responsive space (physical or intangible) through a brief introduction to interactive architecture, and to explain the original interdisciplinary teaching methods utilized in the thesis project. By reviewing conceptual and practical cases and related theories, the readers can have a primary understanding of the particular subject and may also change their way of thinking and doing architecture. As interactive architecture is still in its beginning stage, many explorations and related methodologies need to be put in a theoretical framework. Therefore, the author of this paper strongly suggests formulating a comprehensive framework in order to guide the future generation of architects for sustainable urban development.

Abstract:The growing complexity of regional planning and design, in combination with increasing concerns about climate change and resource depletion, has revived the discussion on strategic thinking. Spatial planning and landscape architecture develop long-term visions to facilitate the gradual adaptation of the physical environment. Despite accomplishments in both disciplines, the two domains have yet to exploit the full potential of a joint approach to long-term regional design. The objective of the multidisciplinary study reported in this paper was to explore alternative means of developing imaginative yet robust long-term visions. The study combined literature study with the development of several long-term visions for the creation of sustainable energy landscapes. This paper focuses on the emerging methodological framework for long-term regional design, and argues that three modes of change should be integrated into the design process: change due to current projected trends, change due to critical uncertainties and intended change. Subsequently, a five-step approach to the development of long-term visions is derived and illustrated in this paper. The second paper of this two-part series, which will be published in the April 2012 issue of European Planning Studies, centres on the application and the discussion of the five-step approach to integrated visions.
