Abstract:The development of modern cutting-edge technology relies heavily on the huge success and advancement of nanotechnology, in which nanomaterials and nanostructures provide the indispensable material cornerstone. Owing to their nanoscale dimensions with possible quantum limit, nanomaterials and nanostructures possess a high surface-to-volume ratio, rich surface/interface effects, and distinct physical and chemical properties compared with their bulk counterparts, leading to the remarkably expanded horizons of their applications. Depending on their degree of spatial quantization, low-dimensional nanomaterials are generally categorized into nanoparticles (0D); nanorods, nanowires, and nanobelts (1D); and atomically thin layered materials (2D). This review article provides a comprehensive guide to low-dimensional nanomaterials and nanostructures. It begins with the classification of nanomaterials, followed by an inclusive account of nanofabrication and characterization. Both top-down and bottom-up fabrication approaches are discussed in detail. Next, various significant applications of low-dimensional nanomaterials are discussed, such as photonics, sensors, catalysis, energy storage, diverse coatings, and various bioapplications. This article would serve as a quick and facile guide for scientists and engineers working in the field of nanotechnology and nanomaterials.

Abstract:TiO2 nanomaterial is promising with its high potential and outstanding performance in photocatalytic environmental applications, such as CO2 conversion, water treatment, and air quality control. For many of these applications, the particle size, crystal structure and phase, porosity, and surface area influence the activity of TiO2 dramatically. TiO2 nanomaterials with special structures and morphologies, such as nanospheres, nanowires, nanotubes, nanorods, and nanoflowers are thus synthesized due to their desired characteristics. With an emphasis on the different morphologies of TiO2 and the influence factors in the synthesis, this review summarizes fourteen TiO2 preparation methods, such as the sol-gel method, solvothermal method, and reverse micelle method. The TiO2 formation mechanisms, the advantages and disadvantages of the preparation methods, and the photocatalytic environmental application examples are proposed as well.

Abstract:Nanoparticles are atomic or molecular groups composed of a very small number of atoms or molecules. The particles have a shell structure. Nanomaterials are made up of a long-range ordered arrangement of atoms in grains and a disordered interface composition. The nanomaterial has a large number of interfaces. These unique volume effects, surface effects, and macroscopic quantum tunnelling effects enable nanomaterials to have unusual mechanical, electrical, magnetic, thermal, optical, catalysis, and superconducting properties. Such characteristics make nanomaterials have significant application value in the fields of national defense, electronics, chemical industry, metallurgy, light industry, aviation, ceramics, catalysts, medicine, etc. The development of nanomaterial technology will have a profound impact on the productivity and may solve a series of problems such as food, health, energy and environmental protection fundamentally. This article analyzes the application prospect of nanomaterial and different preparation method. At the same time, the advantages and disadvantages of preparation are shown in the article which provides a literature review for researchers to refer.

Abstract:In the last few decades, the vast potential of nanomaterials for biomedical and healthcare applications has been extensively investigated. Several case studies demonstrated that nanomaterials can offer solutions to the current challenges of raw materials in the biomedical and healthcare fields. This review describes the different nanoparticles and nanostructured material synthesis approaches and presents some emerging biomedical, healthcare, and agro-food applications. This review focuses on various nanomaterial types (e.g., spherical, nanorods, nanotubes, nanosheets, nanofibers, core-shell, and mesoporous) that can be synthesized from different raw materials and their emerging applications in bioimaging, biosensing, drug delivery, tissue engineering, antimicrobial, and agro-foods. Depending on their morphology (e.g., size, aspect ratio, geometry, porosity), nanomaterials can be used as formulation modifiers, moisturizers, nanofillers, additives, membranes, and films. As toxicological assessment depends on sizes and morphologies, stringent regulation is needed from the testing of efficient nanomaterials dosages. The challenges and perspectives for an industrial breakthrough of nanomaterials are related to the optimization of production and processing conditions.

Abstract:Over the past two decades, the pursuit of environmentally responsible and cost-effective methods for nanomaterial production has been ongoing. This aims to reduce the reliance on hazardous chemicals detrimental to human health. The industry's overall impact on human well-being is a subject of persistent debate. To address this question, we have examined the types and properties of nanomaterials, nanomaterial synthesis routes, different characterizations of nanomaterials, progress on nanomaterials in different fields, environmental aspects of the use of nanomaterials, and the impact of nanomaterials on industrial innovations. The review highlighted that nanomaterials pave the way for the formation of smaller, more efficient, and more powerful technologies for energy production, absorption, and storage. Nanomaterials drive significant industrial innovation, revolutionizing sectors like electronics, medicine, and energy with examples such as ultra-efficient solar panels, targeted drug delivery systems, and high-performance materials in electronics.

Abstract:As one of the nanomaterial representatives, one-dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess extraordinary mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical properties, as well as controllable reactivity. This renders their broad applications in the fields of energy storage and transition, composites, heterogeneous catalysis, environmental protection, and drug delivery. This review presents the chemical and engineering principles of CNTs mass production. The detailed strategies for mass production of multi-walled CNTs, single-walled CNTs, double-walled CNTs, CNT arrays, super-aligned CNTs, super-long CNTs, doped CNTs, coiled CNTs, CNT junctions, as well as CNT/graphene hybrids were all presented. Meanwhile, the key engineering considerations in standardization, environment, health, and safety were analyzed, and their commercialization process was evaluated. The production capacity has been over 10000 tons per year, and bulk applications for Li-ion battery, conductive nanocomposites, automotive, sporting goods have been achieved. However, more efforts should be devoted on the chemical route for mass production and engineering route for commercialization of high performance CNTs, in order for versatile properties and applications. The basic research for CNTs production and application will flourish the nanotechnology industry for sustainable society.

Abstract:We reviewed the standard preparation methods, including chemical, physical, and biological processes based on the properties of nanomaterials, and mainly clarified the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of different preparation methods. Then, we focused on the application of nanomaterials in biomedicine, including biological detection, tumor diagnosis, and disease treatment. We expound on the current application progress of nanomaterials in hot fields to promote the development of nanomaterials. Nanotechnology is one of the most promising and decisive technologies in the world. Nanomaterials, as the primary research aspect of nanotechnology, are quite different from macroscopic materials because of their unique optical, electrical, magnetic, thermal properties, and more robust mechanical properties, which make them play an essential role in the field of materials science, biomedical field, aerospace field, and environmental energy. Different preparation methods for nanomaterials have various physical and chemical properties and are widely used in different areas. In this review, we focused on the preparation methods, including chemical, physical, and biological methods due to the properties of nanomaterials. We mainly clarified the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of different preparation methods. Then, we focused on the applications of nanomaterials in biomedicine, including biological detection, tumor diagnosis, and disease treatment, which provide a development trend and promising prospects for nanomaterials.

Abstract:Metal nanostructured materials, with many excellent and unique physical and mechanical properties compared to macroscopic bulk materials, have been widely used in the fields of electronics, bioimaging, sensing, photonics, biomimetic biology, information, and energy storage. It is worthy of noting that most of these applications require the use of nanostructured metals with specific controlled properties, which are significantly dependent on a series of physical parameters of its characteristic size, geometry, composition, and structure. Therefore, research on low-cost preparation of metal nanostructures and controlling of their characteristic sizes and geometric shapes are the keys to their development in different application fields. The preparation methods, physical and chemical properties, and application progress of metallic nanostructures are reviewed, and the methods for characterizing metal nanostructures are summarized. Finally, the future development of metallic nanostructure materials is explored.
