Abstract:It is not new that the national college entrance mathematics examination paper combined in arts and sciences. Since 1980s, some provinces and cities tried to but failed to combine mathematics in arts and sciences, and their experience and lessons are worth learning. There are three main reasons for the long existence of the“old”national college entrance mathematics examination divided in arts paper and science paper. First, the division of arts and sciences has an institutional basis. Second, different majors in colleges and universities have different requirements for mathematics. The third is the practical need of guiding middle school mathematics teaching. The difficulties faced by the new national college entrance mathematics examination divided in arts paper and science paper, are similar to those in the past, which highlights the problems of fairness and efficiency. The diversity and selectivity are the future development direction of the new national college entrance mathematics examination, which not only solves the realistic dilemma but also meets the needs of The Times. According to the new college entrance mathematics examination implementation environment, the short-term goal can adopt the path similar to the old national college entrance mathematics examination divided in arts paper and science paper, by slightly set the new national college entrance mathematics examination to two levels of difficulty in mathematics 1 and mathematics 2.

Abstract:Numerical Analysis is one of the key topics for Computational Mathematics in Engineering Mathematics. Students required to learn different methods of analysis to solve a given problem. The objective of this paper is to analyze the final exam questions of Numerical Analysis subject. There are four course outcomes for the Numerical Analysis subject. Five questions were set up for final and each question carries 20 marks. The Bloom Taxonomy for the questions are from application and analysis level. A total of 32 students from Civil Engineering department took the final examination. To analyze this subject, the results of the final examination of students from Civil Engineering department are tabulated in EXCEL and transformed into WINSTEPS. The Rasch model enables one to differentiate the difficulties of the exam questions according to different levels of the group. The ability of the Civil Engineering students cannot be divided into any group. A misfit item identified from Point-Measure Correlation, Outfit MNSQ and Outfit z-Standard. Since no item is out of the three measures, therefore there is no misfit question for the Numerical Analysis final examination. The person-item distribution map showed the questions which belong to difficult, easy and very easy group.

Abstract:The phenomena and the nature of many problems that arise in the college entrance examinations differ much among each other.There exist many problems in the college entrance examinations,such as the unfair mark levels over which students can enter different levels higher education schools,the increasing college entrance examination competition,too many compulsory subjects for the college entrance examinations and participants' too heavy burden,the pursuit of the rate of students' entering schools of a higher level,etc.However,the nature and origin of these problems doesn't reside in college entrance examinations itself that only make these problems obvious.College entrance exmination is not the root of all evils,but the congruent of various educational and social conflicts.Without it,many of these problems and conflicts remain as usual,and they differ only in forms.We must seek nature through phenomena.Despite the facts that there are some limitations in the system of college entrance examinations and it exerts some negative influece on primary and secondary education,it is still a good tool to select and promote talents in an objective way,which is more beneficial than harmful for China's education and society.

Abstract:The college entrance examination system is undergoing constant reform and improvement. In 2021, the new college entrance examination system will be implemented, which will no longer distinguish between arts and sciences. This is a challenge for the proposition of math questions in the college entrance examination. Taking the 2018-2020 National examination paper (science) and 2021 National new high examination paper, a total of 11 mathematics advanced examination questions as the research object, using comparative research method, case study method, statistical analysis method and other research methods, mainly studied the examination content and investigation requirements of the examination paper. Based on the above research, the paper structure, the content of the paper, the core quality of mathematics and the similarities and differences of investigation requirements are obtained, and the proposition of the new college entrance examination mathematics and teachers are put forward.

An Investigation of High School Students’ Mathematical Problem Posing in the United States and China

Abstract:In the literature, problem posing is claimed to be important in learning mathematics. This study investigated US and Chinese high school students’ attitudes and abilities in posing mathematical problems. All of the participants were taking advanced mathematics in high school. A mathematics content test and a mathematical problem-posing test were administered to the students. The mathematical content test was adapted from the National Assessment of Educational Progress for 12th graders. The problem-posing test included three situations, namely a free problem-posing situation, a semi-structured problem-posing situation, and a structured problem-posing situation. Students who scored 39 or above out of 50 points were interviewed. During the interviews, the majority of the students reported that they had not had any prior experience in posing mathematical problems. Many students did not have a specific strategy for posing problems, and many had difficulty explaining their problem-posing processes. Most of the US students for various reasons said that problem posing was important in mathematics. Most Chinese students said that problem posing was not important in high school learning because of college entrance examinations.

Abstract:Students possess varying abilities in problem-solving, ranging from adeptness to struggles or even inability. This study employs a descriptive content analysis design to scrutinize official documents containing practice exam questions. Data collection involved documentation study, with subsequent analysis utilizing validated assessment sheets and rubrics endorsed by experts. The descriptive method facilitated the analysis and interpretation of data meaning, while quantitative analysis processed research data. The study focused on mathematics exam practice scores, revealing several problematic questions. Out of 25 questions, 11 were deemed acceptable, 8 required correction, and 6 were rejected, necessitating replacement. Questions requiring correction or replacement exhibited a low question discriminating power index, failing to effectively gauge students' proficiency in practice exams. Moreover, the majority of practice test questions posed considerable difficulty for students. Out of the 25 questions, students encountered 1 very difficult, 10 difficult, 10 moderates, and only 4 easy questions, which they struggled to solve adequately. Consequently, the findings underscore the importance of revising practice exam questions to ensure they accurately assess students' abilities and cater to a diverse range of skill levels.

Abstract:Teaching and testing have been two crucial elements in education. They are complementary and mutually influential. As a part of senior high school English teaching, English language testing has been important in gauging students’ competence. Scientific and reliable classroom teaching tests and assessments can effectively help teachers achieve objectives, change pedagogical approaches, and continuously innovate their methods. Through the use of questionnaires and data gathered from 40 English teachers from senior high school, this paper found that there are still many problems in the senior high school English classroom tests, which are mainly manifested by arbitrary test planning, lack of logic and stratification in questions proposal as well as insufficient research on the washback. The reasons for this situation are mainly due to factors like teachers’ scant understanding of the educational function of classroom tests, the irrationality of the existing evaluation mechanism and inadequate knowledge of students. practical suggestions are made in this regard in order to maximize the value of English classroom assessments zzand facilitate a productive English teaching and learning environment in the future.

Abstract:The survey which was done among the students of primary,junior high school and senior high schools about the mathematical authentic problem solving shows that although current mathematics teaching attaches great importance to the creation of mathematical situations,students' awareness and ability to use mathematics has not been changed as expected.We can see from the case analysis that it is common that mathematics problems are intentionally "dressed up" in "situation coats" so as to fit the "curriculum standard requirements".The analysis on the role of the mathematical situation combining the school mathematics with the mathematics outside the schools indicates that mathematical situations function as a media for mathematics outside the school entering the school mathematics and act as a guider during the process.

Abstract:The primary motivation of this study is to investigate whether there are any differences, and what they are, between the mathematical modelling skills of secondary and tertiary students entering a highly academic university in China. With this aim in mind, we used a multiple-choice question instrument, which has been extensively used in experimental studies in various countries, to assess students' modelling skills. Two tests, each consisting of six questions, were conducted with approximately 200 first-year students from Tsinghua University. The first test was carried out as the students entered the University, and the second test was carried out at the end of the first semester after an introductory unit in mathematical modelling. Statistical analyses were conducted to compare the differences in the results of these two tests.

Abstract:Objective To determine if the final examinations from 2010 to 2014 can reflect the true level of knowledge by eight-year program medical students of Fudan University,and to provide information to improve the quality and validity of test scale.Methods Test papers and scores of individual students were analyzed by applying education measurement and using selected indicators.Results The students' scores showed a normal distribution with a mean score of 79.12 (standard deviation:9.47).During the 5 years,discrimination indexes varied between 0.16 and 0.20;whereas difficulty indexes were between 0.15 and 0.26.The test scale had a validity that varied from 0.438 to 0.732.Conclusions The test scales had a high difficulty index and low discrimination index,although the structure validity of the scale is reliable.There is a need to adjust the difficulty of the scales according to the knowledge and ability that the students have obtained.

Abstract:Abstract In this study, a student-based placement model using the A* algorithm is proposed and applied to solve the problem of placing the courses in exam sessions. The application area of the model is midterm and final exams, conducted by the Open Education Faculty. The reason for choosing open education exams for the practice is that the exams are applied across the country and more than 100,000 students participate. The main problem is to obtain a suitable distribution that can satisfy many constraints simultaneously. In the current system, the lessons in the sessions were placed once using the curriculum knowledge. This placement plan is applied in all exams. When the placement is done according to the curriculum information, the courses in the sessions cannot be placed effectively and efficiently due to a large number of common courses and the large number of students taking the exam. This makes the booklets more expensive and the organization more prone to errors. Both the opening of new programs and the increase in the number of students regularly lead to the necessity of placing the classes in sessions dynamically each semester. In addition, to prevent conflicts with the calendars of other central exams, it is necessary to conduct all exams in three sessions. A better solution was obtained by using a different model than the currently used model in the study. With this solution, distribution of the courses of successful students with few courses to all sessions is provided, and difficult courses of unsuccessful students who have a large number of courses were gathered in the same session. This study can support future studies on two issues: the first issue is the approach of using the course that will be taken by most students instead of the courses taught in most departments in the selection of the course to be placed in the booklet. The second issue is to try to find the most suitable solution by performing performance tests on many algorithms whose performance has been determined by many academic studies.

Abstract:Based on the rules of the national vocational qualification examination,firstly,this paper gives the probability that the student can pass the examination when subject is n,and the probability that this student can obtain professional qualification certificate. Secondly,under the condition of obtaining certificates,it calculates the mathematical expectation of the time of passing the examination and the number of test to sign up when getting the certificate.
