Analysis on final test of epidemiology for eight-year program medical students from Fudan University

Abstract:Objective To determine if the final examinations from 2010 to 2014 can reflect the true level of knowledge by eight-year program medical students of Fudan University,and to provide information to improve the quality and validity of test scale.Methods Test papers and scores of individual students were analyzed by applying education measurement and using selected indicators.Results The students' scores showed a normal distribution with a mean score of 79.12 (standard deviation:9.47).During the 5 years,discrimination indexes varied between 0.16 and 0.20;whereas difficulty indexes were between 0.15 and 0.26.The test scale had a validity that varied from 0.438 to 0.732.Conclusions The test scales had a high difficulty index and low discrimination index,although the structure validity of the scale is reliable.There is a need to adjust the difficulty of the scales according to the knowledge and ability that the students have obtained.
