Abstract:Objective To investigate the early results and late prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease following coronary stenting in ostial lesions. Methods In a case-control study, 502 consecutive patients who underwent elective coronary stenting were divided into two groups. Group I included 56 patients with stenting in ostial lesions and group II comprised 446 patients with stenting in nonostial lesions. Procedural success rate and follow-up results were compared between the two groups. Results Both procedural success rate(96.4% vs 96.9%) and complication rate (3.6% vs 7.2%) were similar in the two groups (all P 0.05). Follow-up rate was 92.3%(mean duration, 12.0±4.8 months). There were no significant differences in recurrent angina(50.0% vs 44.4%), nitrates cessation(26.9% vs 35.2%), re-admission (44.2% vs 31.9%), improvement of cardiac function (42.3% vs 51.4%, all P 0.05). However, compared with group II, group I had higher cardiac event rates (34.6% vs 20.4%, P =0.020). Conclusion Coronary stenting in ostial lesions may have similar procedural success rate, but less late benefit, compared with that in nonostial lesions.
