Abstract:A reusable SoC verification environment is presented in this paper. This versatile environment, which is based on VSI Alliance IP bus standard, is in accordance with pervasive rules of IP reusing, and hence is suitable for varieties of designs. Through collaborating with other EDA tools, the environment has powerful capability to support HW/SW co-simulation and digital/analog co-simulation. To be user friendly, the environment is well organized to accommodate new IPs easily. It is configurable for verifications from system-level prototyping to gate level simulation. This environment works well for verifications of digital, analog and mixed-signal SoC designs.

Abstract:This paper, proposes a novel solution for a stereo vision machine based on the System-on-Programmable-Chip (SoPC) architecture. The SOPC technology provides great convenience for accessing many hardware devices such as DDRII, SSRAM, Flash, etc., by IP reuse. The system hardware is implemented in a single FPGA chip involving a 32-bit Nios II microprocessor, which is a configurable soft IP core in charge of managing the image buffer and users' configuration data. The Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) algorithm is used for dense disparity map computation. The circuits of the algorithmic module are modeled by the Matlab-based DSP Builder. With a set of configuration interfaces, the machine can process many different sizes of stereo pair images. The maximum image size is up to 512 K pixels. This machine is designed to focus on real time stereo vision applications. The stereo vision machine offers good performance and high efficiency in real time. Considering a hardware FPGA clock of 90 MHz, 23 frames of 640 × 480 disparity maps can be obtained in one second with 5 × 5 matching window and maximum 64 disparity pixels.

Abstract:SOPC is a flexible, efficient SOC design methodology which is developed by Altera corporation. It could build a SOC design by integrating processor、memory、I/Os and other peripherals into a PLD. NIOS is a soft-core microprocessor developed by Altera corporation, which could be used to build a SOPC design. A demonstration was given, which showed how to realize a NIOS based SOPC design through an example on Excalibur platform in detail.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and implementation of network controller which based on the Data Link Layer's specification of a lightweight sensor-oriented fieldbus protocol, that is sensor network protocol. The controller is packed with AVALON standard peripheral interface. It can be treated as a normal intellectual property core in project design, so that the operation on it is simplified as reading or writing on register. The test results show that the controller meets the requirements of the specification in the frame identification, arbitration, checking and so on. A follow-up application developing basement can be found easily on this controller.

Abstract:Reconfigurable system-on-a-chip(SoC) is an important trend of embedded system. It is not only to achieve a higher performance but also flexible enough. In this paper a new kind of reconfigurable system using SoP(System on a Package) technology is presented and a new kind of peripheral bus which is used to form a whole system architecture is proposed based on the reconfigurable system. Using this peripheral bus, we can form a new embedded system easily by changing different intellectual property(IP) cores. We can make the whole system much more smaller, higher levels of integration, lower costs and lower power by using this chip and the peripheral bus. Compare with the earlier system, the new system using the reconfigurable chip which is of the same function is much smaller and lighter. All these are very suitable for small satellites and consumer electronics.

Abstract:The bus in a SoC plays an important role and the arbiter is adopted to solve bus contentions. We propose a novel arbitration algorithm, adaptive arbitration algorithm, in this paper. The experimental results show that the novel algorithm meets both priority and equity in solving bus bandwidth allocation.

Abstract:SOPC is a flexible、efficient SOC design methodology which is developed by Altera corporation. It can build a SOC design by integrating processor、memory、I/Os and other peripherals selectively into a PLD. In order to build an efficient SOC, application-oriented IP cores are needed. IP cores can be provided by manufacturer or come from user-defined logic. User-defined logic can be added conveniently into SOPC design and it is the flexibility 、 tight coupling 、 high efficiency and low power consuming of user-defined logic that render SOPC special advantage. In this paper, the architecture of SOPC design will be firstly presented, after that an example is given, through which the implementation and the effect of a user-defined logic in SOPC design are demonstrated.

Abstract:The USB has become the most popular bus standard of computer’s peripheral interface, and it is very meaningful to design a flexible and efficient USB Device Controller. A system of USB2.0 device is built based on SOPC in this paper, which acts as a USB Mass Storage device. Because both the processor and the device controller are soft IP cores that can be download into FPGA, the whole system is well configurable.

Abstract:Distributed control system plays an important part in the application of satellite systems. However, there are integrated requirements (i.e., reliability, real-time capability, expandability, commonality, usability, economy and efficiency) for communication in these systems often used in hostile environments. The work presented here relates to a protocol named IRCBus (Industry High-Reliability Configurable Bus), which supports these requirements. And it also offers practical solutions. First of all, the protocol is formulated based on ISO/OSI (International Organization Standardization /Open System Interconnection) model and it includes four layers: Physical, DataLink, Network and Transport. And it proposes new ideas and improved methods in each layer draft and realization for these requirements. Then the high reliability is guaranteed by hot backup, three redundancy, bus isolation, retransmission law, data check and intrinsically safe explosion-proof; the real-time capability is realized by hardware system based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and software system; the expandability for bus functions and network size is considered during the whole design; the usability is solved by system management function, installing law and uninstalling law; the low cost are achieved as follows: adopting common cable as transmission media; utilizing existing chip RS485 chip with rational circuit; the efficiency is improved by taking advantage of 8-bit data and 9-bit data in UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) protocol and other features. Moreover, it analyzes the protocol from communication principle perspectives. Abstract:Multi-processor system on chip (MPSoC) has been widely applied in embedded systems design. However, it has posed great challenges in designing and implementing prototype chip for diverse applications due to different instruction set architectures (ISA), programming interfaces and software tool chains. In order to solve the problem, we introduce SOA into MPSoC design, because it can provide flexibility and extensibility for MPSoC chip design at lower cost through adopting re-usable, self-contained modules in the design process. In this paper, we propose a service-oriented multi-processor SOMP, which integrates embedded processors and hardware IP cores as computing servants on a single chip. SOMP provides unified programming interfaces for users through utilizing diverse computing resources. In order to demonstrate the performance of SOMP, we implemented it on a Digilent Virtex5LX110T FPGA board and designed several sample test applications for verification purpose. The experimental results show that SOMP can improve the parallelism greatly and achieve 95.7% of the theoretical speedup on average.

Abstract:System on programmable chip (SOPC) is a kind of system on a programmable chip. The system architecture is superior to the traditional design pattern. The system has an on-chip bus between the processor and the programmable logic, which forms a high bandwidth, low latency, connection, and has rich flexible customization of IP. It also has advantages of low power consumption and high performance. The application in the field of high reliable proportion rising year by year. However, the change of system architecture and the expansion of software scale have brought great impact on the simulation test method and the physical test method. The existing dynamic testing methods are based on limited testing scenarios to investigate the system. It is difficult to find hidden errors in the design of complex connection segments, such as the errors in the on-chip bus transmission, the errors in the hardware and software coupling, and so on. Due to system scale of the state-space explosion problem and various forms IP, SOPC cannot apply formal verification techniques. In this article, we propose a SOPC formalized validation framework. It is based on polymorphous IP abstraction modeling, common formal properties analysis, and modeling methods in system architecture and other high-risk areas. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm and the established SOPC formal verification framework can introduce the formal verification technique to SOPC high-risk area verification, and it can be used as the guidance of SOPC formal verification.

Abstract:HF FH communication is widely used in military communication field,and nowadays more and more critical requirements are put forward on reliability,intelligent and flexibility while designing HF FH modems.Based on SOPC techniques,such a modem comprised of configurable microblaze soft processor and rich peripheral interfaces is built under Xilinx EDK,both hardware and software platforms are configured flexibly,the OPB modem peripheral interface is designed with its corresponding driver implemented.At last,a file transmission application is presented.By verification,the HF FH modem can meet user's needs for correct function,flexible con-figuration,high anti-interference capability and high reliability features.

Abstract:This paper discusses a layout of bus-on-chip core referring to SoC thinking which is composed of six sections based on a physical chip of FPGA: multi-Processor cache coherence unit, external bus control module, TT&C module, Ethernet Mac interface, EDAC/DMA module, and AMBA bridges. Multi-processor cache coherence unit, as a key part of the bus core, is used to serve the rapid parallel computing by means of the breakthrough of write/read speed of EMS memory and enhances the reliability of OBC with the service of supporting the hot standby of redundancy and the reconfiguration of fault-tolerance. External bus control module is made to support the PnP of external components applying varieties of buses, which is designed by means of soft-core in order to adapt the variation of macro-design and improve the flexibility of external application. TT&C module is the interface of subsystems of telemetry, telecommand and communication, which involves the protocols of HDLC. Ethernet Mac interface based on TCP/IP acts as the access of ISL for formation flying, constellation, etc. EDAC/DMA module mainly manages the data exchange between AMBA bus and RAM, and assigns DMA for the payloads.
