Abstract:Tourists' green behavior plays a significant role in sustainable tourism development. Most of the previous research considered tourists exert green behavior independently, neglecting the influences of tourist-to-tourist interaction and the culture they are embedded in. This study took Chinese tourists visiting two lake tourism destinations (West Lake in Hangzhou and Xianshan Lake in Huzhou) as the research respondents and aimed to examine how tourist-to-tourist interaction within different relationships impact tourist on-site green behavior in Chinese face-culture settings. Based on a qualitative research approach using the critical incident technique, 76 incidents were investigated involving 29 Chinese tourists with different backgrounds. This research showed that the encounters among tourists were affected by the types of relationships (family, friends, and strangers) and Chinese face culture (the desire to gain face and the fear of losing face). The results contribute to the sustainable tourism literature by taking into consideration various types of social interactions, which positively or negatively affect green behavior. Fresh insights are revealed on how face consciousness influences Chinese social interactions and green behavior in tourism. The analysis of social interactions among tourists provides a new perspective for destination management organizations to enhance green behavior and improve sustainable management practices.

Abstract:Tourists' green behavior has recently attracted much academic interest. The majority of the existing studies use quantitative research methods and explore how tourists' cognitive and emotional factors influence their environmental actions. This study assesses tourists' green behavior from a unique perspective, that is, how hosts at rural Chinese B&Bs interact with tourists and shape their sustainable actions. The research team analyzed why the rural hosts are motivated to promote tourists' green behavior, and identified the strategies they pursue to convince the tourists to be more sustainable. Guzhu Village, well known for its rural tourism and popular with senior tourists in the Yangtze River Delta, was the site for the study. Auto-ethnography was used as the key research method. It was found that both tangible and intangible environmental benefits motivate the hosts to guide tourists' sustainable behavior. Hosts specifically structure some leisure activities and use compelling signage to both promote positive environmental actions and simultaneously enhance tourists' satisfaction. This is the first study to emphasize the active roles of the hosts in shaping tourists' green behavior through dynamic social interaction. The findings highlight the processes, such as humor and social approval, which have broad international applicability. Further, it was noted that the hosts employ 'face', a distinctive Chinese concept, to limit tourists' less-desirable behaviors. Practical implications are also offered for sustainable destination management.

Abstract:Along with the enhancement of people's consumption level and esthetic appeal,many tourists no longer satisfy to the traditional mass tourism projects and devote to experiential tourism which can obtain more happy and unique experience.Experiential tourism is the new tourism pattern in the experiential economy time which emphasizes participation.At present,China not yet truly enters the experiential economy time and the environment of developing the experiential economy product is not mature.The experiential tourism marketing research in China is also a big blank and the thinking of planning and design is rather simplistic.The method of situational planning and design of item experience provides the new thinking for experiential tourism exploiting.Firstly,study the market foresightedness and at the right moment cultivate the market.Secondly,pay attention to psychology guidance in tourism development,build the experience atmosphere,compile the story,direct activity carefully and arrange tour line and time reasonably.Thirdly,create the experience service under fully understanding tourist psychology and role characteristic.Finally,design experiential souvenir and let the tourist obtain the unforgettable experience.

Abstract:The paper systematically reviews the "gaze" theory in tourism studies both at home and abroad,which has been mainly focused on "tourist gaze".The paper suggests that "tourism gaze" is an interactive and complicated concept with the participation of multi-stakeholders,rather than one-way gaze from tourists."Tourism gaze" should also include "gaze from local people","gaze from experts" "gaze between tourists" and "hidden gaze" and "mutual gaze" among stakeholders due to power gaps and changes."Tourism gaze" tries to inspect the whole society from the perspective of tourism,which is of positive theoretical and practical significance.Based on the comment on theoretical studies,the paper elaborates emphatically on the study orientation that can be accomplished among Chinese scholars,combining tourist development trends both domestically and internationally.

Abstract:Awe is a positive emotion of particular relevance for tourism, although thorough studies of its behavioural outcomes are rare. This research investigated the experience of awe accessed through tourism and its influence on environmentally responsible behaviour (ERB). Three studies, including an on-site survey and two experimental studies across different populations, were conducted to test our theory and proposed hypotheses. Our results show that by diminishing the emphasis on the individual self, evoking awe through tourism experiences may encourage people to conduct ERB. The robustness of the results was verified through multiple methods. Finally, theoretical contributions and managerial implications are discussed along with recommendations for future research.

Abstract:With the development of tourism, the number of tourists and the scope of tourism activities are increasing, and the impact of tourism on the ecological environment is gradually revealed. The ecological environment is the foundation of sustainable tourism development. Some tourist destinations lack systematic and scientific evaluation and the proper planning of tourism resources, which makes it difficult for local areas to cope with the influx of a large number of people. In these destinations, the internal system is perturbed by a series of disturbances, which leads to bad effects on the local ecological environment. In addition to endangering the development of tourism, the quality of life of local residents is also threatened. Consequently, the issues between tourism and environment have become a hot topic in the field of tourism research. Through the collection of domestic and foreign tourism literature related to ecological theories since 1990 to 2020, the status of the application of various ecological theories in the field of tourism is revealed, such as life cycle theory, landscape ecology theory, carrying capacity theory, biodiversity, ecological niche theory and ecological footprint theory. This analysis found that the application of these theories to tourism mainly focuses on empirical research, and there are few studies on the basic theories related to it. In the empirical research, innovation of the research methods is basically absent. Therefore, future research should pay more attention to the theoretical research of ecological theory in the field of tourism, and combine modern science and technology in the practical application to strengthen the innovation of research methods. In addition, the prospect of applying ecological theories in future tourism research is discussed.

Abstract:Landscape ecology, resulted from the integration of modern Geography and Ecology, is discovering and broadening its application scope. Its application to ecotourism is now underway. On the basis of three kinds of definitions on ecotourism, this paper defines ecotourism from tourism planners and managers, tourists, and their integrated levels. We also emphasize its spatial and ecological meaning, and initially discover the application of landscape ecology to ecotourism. Abstract:Since the late 1990's, as China's development-induced environmental problems increased, there has been concomitant rise of environmental concern in policy and public discourse. This rising concern for the environment has influenced tourism development in two ways. On one hand, new attention has been directed at finding more sustainable ways of developing existing tourist resources. On the other hand, environmental protection is being used by local governments, tourism agencies and other institutions as a marketing strategy in their efforts to promote tourist sites and attract capital investment. This essay examines these two forms of “greening” in Jiangxi's tourism development and explores persistent tension between the environment and the economy that undermines efforts to create more sustainable forms of tourism. The analysis locates the greening process in the specific conditions of Jiangxi's tourism development strategy, most notably its dependence on Red Tourism to draw in large number of domestic visitors. This case study of tourism development in Jiangxi shows how discrepancies exist between promotional claims and the implementation of environmental protection. Local tourism practices may not necessarily be environmentally constructive despite efforts on different levels.

Abstract:While the tourism industry and environmentalists may traditionally be strange bedfellows, the increasing conversion of land away from its natural state into unsustainable uses may result in the two becoming allies in the fight to protect remaining natural landscapes. This partnership is presented around a proposed sustainable symbiotic relationship between natural resource conservation and the competitiveness of ecotourism destinations. Under this symbiotic relationship, ecotourism destinations benefit in the form of enhanced competitiveness from the protection of quality natural resources while the conservation of natural resources is increasingly valued because these resources are realised as the foundation of the ecotourism industry and the driver of all economic benefits associated with ecotourism. This conceptual paper reviews this relationship and graphically depicts the symbiotic relationship, including the many tangential sustainable outcomes of biodiversity, flood control, water quality, carbon sequestration, and cultural heritage conservation that stem from the increased incentives ecotourism brings to natural resource conservation. The proposed symbiotic relationship between ecotourism and natural resource conservation specifically answers Shellenberger and Nordhaus' (2005) call to increasingly frame environmental issues using strong economic messages if public opinion is to be swayed towards conservation in this present political climate.
