The Importance of Interpretation in Promoting Geotourism to the Daigu Landform

Abstract:Geotourism, which is integral to the UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGps), plays a pivotal role in the promotion of geoheritage. This study focuses on the Daigu Landform within the Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark, offering a fresh perspective on geotourism by leveraging the landform's unique geological attributes. Through a field investigation of the characteristics of the Daigu Landform and the formation and evolution of the Daigu Landform, the characteristics and types of Gu were determined. Based on the data collected and interviews conducted about geotourism in Daigu, our research revealed that the geotourism resources in the area are not fully utilized. Explanations of local geological features remain at a basic level, and participatory and interactive activities are lacking. To address this issue, by integrating character design and interactive activities, our study demonstrates a novel approach to geoeducation within geotourism, highlighting the potential of storytelling and personification in making complex geological processes accessible and engaging. This study contributes to the discourse on sustainable geotourism practices, offering insights into the value of creative interpretation in geotourism.
