K -Very Convex Space and K -Very Smooth Space

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a new K convex space, that is K-very convex space with K smooth dual space. The new K convex space and K smooth space are strictly weaker than the old ones. We discuss their properties and the relationship with other K convexities or K smoothness. We generalize some known results.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:We consider the optimization problem $(P_{A})$ $\inf_{x\in X}\{f(x)+g(Ax)\}$ where $f$ and $g$ are proper convex functions defined on locally convex Hausdorff topological vector spaces $X$ and $Y$, respectively, and $A$ is a linear operator from $X$ to $Y$. By using the properties of the epigraph of the conjugated functions, some sufficient and necessary conditions for the strong Fenchel duality and the strong converse Fenchel duality of $(P_{A})$ are provided. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the stable Fenchel duality and for the total Fenchel duality are also derived.

Abstract:Given an affine variety X and a finite dimensional vector space of regular functions L on X, we associate a convex body to (X, L) such that its volume is responsible for the number of solutions of a generic system of functions from L. This is a far reaching generalization of usual theory of Newton polytopes (which is concerned with toric varieties). As applications we give new, simple and transparent proofs of some well-known theorems in both algebraic geometry (e.g. Hodge Index Theorem) and convex geometry (e.g. Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality). Our main tools are classical Hilbert theory on degree of subvarieties of a projective space (in algebraic geometry) and Brunn-Minkowski inequality (in convex geometric).

Abstract:Let X be a real strictly convex and Kadec Banach space and G a nonempty closed relatively boundedly weakly compact subset of X. Let B(X) (resp. K(X)) be the family of nonempty bounded closed (resp. compact) subsets of X endowed with the Hausdorff distance and let BG(X) denote the closure of the set {A∈B(X):A∩G=∅} and KG(X)=BG(X)∩K(X). We introduce the admissible family A of B(X) and prove that EAo(G) (resp. EoA(G)), the set of all subsets F∈A⊆BG(X) (resp. F∈A⊆B(X)) such that the minimization problem min(F,G) (resp. the maximization problem max(F,G)) is well-posed, is a dense Gδ-subset of A. Furthermore, when X is uniformly convex, we prove that A⧹EAo(G) and A⧹EoA(G) are σ-porous in A.

Abstract:The following generalization of a result of S. Nemirovski is proved: if $X$ is either a projective or a Stein manifold and $K\subset X$ is a compact sublevel set of a strictly plurisubharmonic function $\varphi$ defined in a neighborhood of $K$, then $X\setminus K$ is a union of positive divisors if and only if $dd^c\varphi$ extends to a Hodge form on $X$. For an arbitrary compact subset $K\subsetneq X$, this gives that $X\setminus K$ is a union of positive divisors if and only if $K$ admits a neighbourhood basis of sublevel sets of strictly plurisubharmonic functions with the $dd^c$-extension property.

Abstract:The standard convex closed hull of a set is defined as the intersection of all images, under the action of a group of rigid motions, of a half-space containing the given set. In this paper we propose a generalisation of this classical notion, that we call a $(K,\mathbb{H})$-hull, and which is obtained from the above construction by replacing a half-space with some other convex closed subset $K$ of the Euclidean space, and a group of rigid motions by a subset $\mathbb{H}$ of the group of invertible affine transformations. The main focus is put on the analysis of $(K,\mathbb{H})$-convex hulls of random samples from $K$.

Abstract:If X is a convex-transitive Banach space and 1\leq p\leq \infty then the closed linear span of the simple functions in the Bochner space L^{p}([0,1],X) is convex-transitive. If H is an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and C_{0}(L) is convex-transitive, then C_{0}(L,H) is convex-transitive. Some new fairly concrete examples of convex-transitive spaces are provided.

Abstract:In geometry, there are several challenging problems studying numbers associated to convex bodies. For example, the packing density problem, the kissing number problem, the covering density problem, the packing-covering constant problem, Hadwiger's covering conjecture and Borsuk's partition conjecture. They are fundamental and fascinating problems about the same objects. However, up to now, both the methodology and the technique applied to them are essentially different. Therefore, a common foundation for them has been much expected. By treating problems of these types as functionals defined on the spaces of n-dimensional convex bodies, this paper tries to create such a foundation. In particular, supderivatives for these functionals will be studied.

Abstract:Inspired by locale theory, pointfree convex geometry was first proposed and studied by Yoshihiro Maruyama. In this paper, we shall continue to his work and investigate the related topics on pointfree convex spaces. Concretely, the following results are obtained: (1) A Hofmann–Lawson-like duality for pointfree convex spaces is established. (2) The -injective objects in the category of -convex spaces are proved precisely to be sober convex spaces, where is the class of strict maps of convex spaces; (3) A convex space X is sober iff there never exists a nontrivial identical embedding such that its dualization is an isomorphism, and a convex space X is iff there never exists a nontrivial identical embedding such that its dualization is an isomorphism. (4) A dual adjunction between the category of continuous lattices with continuous D -homomorphisms and the category of -convex spaces with CP -maps is constructed, which can further induce a dual equivalence between and a subcategory of ; (5) The relationship between the quotients of a continuous lattice L and the convex subspaces of is investigated and the collection of all algebraic quotients of L is proved to be an algebraic join-sub-complete lattice of of all quotients of L , where denote the set of non-bottom compact elements of L . Furthermore, it is shown that is isomorphic to the collection of all sober convex subspaces of ; (6) Several necessary and sufficient conditions for all convex subspaces of to be sober are presented.

Abstract:In this note we provide a full conjugacy and subdifferential calculus for convex convex-composite functions in finite-dimensional space. Our approach, based on infimal convolution and cone-convexity, is straightforward and yields the desired results under a verifiable Slater-type condition, with relaxed monotonicity and without lower semicontinuity assumptions on the functions in play. The versatility of our findings is illustrated by a series of applications in optimization and matrix analysis, including conic programming, matrix-fractional, variational Gram, and spectral functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the k-Hessian problem S k (D 2 u) = b(x)f(u) in Ω, u = +∞ on ∂Ω, where Ω is a C ∞ -smooth bounded strictly (k − 1)-convex domain in R N with N ≥ 2, b ∈ C ∞ (Ω) is positive in Ω and may be singular or vanish on ∂Ω, f ∈ C[0, ∞) ∩ C 1 (0, ∞) (or f ∈ C 1 ( R ) ) is a positive and increasing function. We establish the first expansions (equalities) of k-convex solutions to the above problem when f is borderline regularly varying and Γ-varying at infinity respectively. For the former, we reveal the exact influences of some indexes of f and principal curvatures of ∂Ω on the first expansion of solutions. For the latter, we find the principal curvatures of ∂Ω have no influences on the expansions. Our results and methods are quite different from the existing ones (including k = N). Moreover, we know the existence of k-convex solutions to the above problem (including k = N) is still an open problem when b possesses high singularity on ∂Ω and f satisfies Keller–Osserman type condition. For the radially symmetric case in the ball, we give a positive answer to this open problem, and then we further show the global estimates for all radial large solutions.

On k-smoothness of operators between Banach spaces

Abstract:We explore the $k$-smoothness of bounded linear operators between Banach spaces, using the newly introduced notion of index of smoothness. The characterization of the $k$-smoothness of operators between Hilbert spaces follows as a direct consequence of our study. We also investigate the $k$-smoothness of operators between polyhedral Banach spaces. In particular, we show that the $k$-smoothness of rank $1$ operators between polyhedral spaces depends heavily on the dimension of the corresponding spaces rather than the geometry of the spaces. The results obtained in this article generalize and improve upon the existing results in the $k$-smoothness of operators between Banach spaces.

Abstract:For every $n \geq 2$, let $K_k^n$ denote the hyperspace of all $k$-dimensional closed convex subsets of the Euclidean space $R^n$ endowed with the Atouch-Wets topology. Let $ K_{k,b}^n$ be the subset of $K_k^n$ consisting of all $k$-dimensional compact convex subsets. In this paper we explore the topology of $K_k^n$ and $K_{k,b}^n$ and the relation of these hyperspaces with the Grassmann manifold $G_k(n)$. We prove that both $K_k^n$ and $K_{k,b}^n$ are Hilbert cube manifolds with a fiber bundle structure over $G_k(n)$. We also show that the fiber of $K_{k,b}^n$ with respect to this fiber bundle structure is homeomorphic with $\mathbb R^{\frac{k(k+1)+2n}{2}}\times Q$, where $Q$ stands for the Hilbert cube.

Abstract:We study stability of the three geometric properties: uniform convexity, nearly uniform convexity, and property (β) under the Yoshikawa–Sparr interpolation method when the resulting interpolation space is considered with various equivalent norms. We give an example which shows that interpolation spaces obtained by the discrete and continuous versions of the method need not be isometric and present a method of transferring geometric properties from the discrete case to the continuous one.

The K-moduli space of a family of conic bundle threefolds

Abstract:We describe the 6-dimensional compact K-moduli space of Fano threefolds in deformation family No 2.18. These Fano threefolds are double covers of $\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2$ branched along smooth $(2,2)$-surfaces, and Cheltsov--Fujita--Kishimoto--Park proved that any smooth Fano threefold in this family is K-stable. A member of family No 2.18 admits the structures of a conic bundle and a quadric surface bundle. We prove that K-polystable limits of these Fano threefolds admit conic bundle structures, but not necessarily del Pezzo fibration structures. We study this K-moduli space via the moduli space of log Fano pairs $(\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^2, c R)$ for $c=1/2$ and $R$ a $(2,2)$-divisor, which we construct using wall-crossings. In the case where the divisor is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor, the first author, together with Ascher and Liu, developed a framework for wall crossings in K-moduli and proved that there are only finitely many walls, which occur at rational values of the coefficient $c$. This paper constructs the first example of wall-crossing in K-moduli in the non-proportional setting, and we find a wall at an irrational value of $c$. In particular, we obtain explicit descriptions of the GIT and K-moduli spaces (for $c \leq 1/2$) of these $(2,2)$-divisors. Furthermore, using the conic bundle structure, we study the relationship with the GIT moduli space of plane quartic curves.
