Abstract:Propolis is an adhesive substance mixed with plant resins collected by honeybees (Apis mellifera) and secretions from their mandibular gland and wax gland, with wide pharmacological activity and healthcare functions. Its antioxidant activity has long been regarded as one of the most important biological activities of propolis. This article summarizes studies on the antioxidant activity of propolis extracts from different geographic origins and with different extraction methods, as well as several important monomer active ingredients in propolis, and concludes the potential molecular mechanism of antioxidant activity of propolis and its monomer ingredients, with the aim of providing ideas for further studies on pharmacological activity of propolis, as well as reference for in-depth development of propolis products.

In this article, we reviewed the research progress on various influence factors on the antimicrobial activity of propolis, including extraction methods,ethanol concentration, p H values, geographical origins, bee species, combinations with different antibiotics, aiming to provide reference for the further research and utilization of antimicrobial activity of propolis.

Abstract:Flavonoids are the main biological components in propolis, which are known for a variety of structures and biological activities. Flavonoids are one of research hotspots of natural product. In this article, the new extraction technologies of flavonoids were introudced at home and abroad, such as aqueous two phase extraction, semi-bionic extraction, high intensity pulsed electric fields, membrane separation, column chromatography, and aims to provide a reference for the future research and applications of propolis flavonoids.

Abstract:The antioxidant activities, polyphenol acid and flavonoid contents were discussed in this article, and studied the relationship between polyphenol acid and an- tioxidant activity. Furthermore, measured the main chemi- cal constituents of propolis collected in various geo- graphic origins. The results showed that antioxidant activ- ities of propolis from different areas were different, and the content of polyphenol acid and flavonoid were also different, and there existed some positive correlation be- tween polyphenol and antioxidant activities. The main chemical constituents of propolis of various areas had great significant different, which indicated that propolis had complex chemical constituents, and antioxidant activi- ties of propolis of various areas were the results of syn- ergistic effect of multiple constituents.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To establish optimal propolis pretreatment methods by comprehensive evaluation.METHODS Single-factor and orthogonal experiment was designed with the content change of total flavonoids,galangin and chrysin as evaluation index to screen the best pretreatment methods.RESULTS The optimal pretreatment condition was as follows: 95% ethanol was used as extraction solvent,ultrasonic extraction was applied at 50 ℃ for 2 times,30 minutes for each time.CONCLUSION The method was scientific and reasonable which can be used in pretreatment of propolis.

Abstract:Propolis, a resinous substance produced by honeybees from various plant sources, has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine for several purposes all over the world. The precise composition of propolis varies according to plant source, seasons harvesting, geography, type of bee flora, climate changes, and honeybee species at the site of collection. This apiary product has broad clinical applications such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, analgesic, antidepressant, and anxiolytic as well asimmunomodulatory effects. It is also well known from traditional uses in treating purulent disorders, improving the wound healing, and alleviating many of the related discomforts. Even if its use was already widespread since ancient times, after the First and Second World War, it has grown even more as well as the studies to identify its chemical and pharmacological features, allowing to discriminate the qualities of propolis in terms of the chemical profile and relative biological activity based on the geographic place of origin. Recently, several in vitro and in vivo studies have been carried out and new insights into the pharmaceutical prospects of this bee product in the management of different disorders, have been highlighted. Specifically, the available literature confirms the efficacy of propolis and its bioactive compounds in the reduction of cancer progression, inhibition of bacterial and viral infections as well as mitigation of parasitic-related symptoms, paving the way to the use of propolis as an alternative approach to improve the human health. However, a more conscious use of propolis in terms of standardized extracts as well as new clinical studies are needed to substantiate these health claims.

Abstract:Being abundant in many bioactive substances,propolis has extensive pharmacological activities and health-care functions. Among them, the immunomodulatory activity is the foundation of its multiple biological functions, and more and more people are interested in it.This article compiles data from the related research at home and abroad, focusing on the immunomodulatory activity of propolis and its two important monomer composition-CAPE and ArtepillinC; mainly discussed the immunomodulatory activity on lymphocyte of Brazilian green propolis, and put forward the problems existing in the research, in order to provide a basis for illuminating the mechanism of the immunomodulatory activity and establishing the chemical standardization of propolis.

Abstract:Propolis is a kind of bee products with various biological activities and health functions.The antihyperglycemic effect is one of biological activities of propolis.In this article,the research progress on the antihyperglycemic effect of propolis as well as its main flavonoids and phenolic acid were summarized.The molecular mechanisms,including IRSPI3K pathway,PPARs transcription factors,AMPK pathway and antioxidant,were also summarized aiming to provide references for the future research of biological activities and further applications of propolis.

Abstract:Propolis is a strong anti-inflammatory agent and indicated improvement of various inflammations.In this article we reviewed the effect of propolis on inflammation and proinflammatory mediators.The possible action mechanism and active composition of propolis were analyzed.In addition,the theory about combination of anti-inflammatory drug and propolis showed synergic effect on inflammation gives out the suggestion to exploitation of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The analytical procedure includes their extraction from the crude propolis,analytical separation,quantification and quality. Abstract:OBJECTIVE To summarize the sources,types,chemical composition of propolis and the correlation between propolis and source plants,thus to provide a reference for the research,development and utilization of the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of propolis and its source plants. METHODS The sources and chemical composition of propolis were reviewed and classified based on the literature. RESULTS The extremely complex chemical composition of propolis depends on the local flora at different geographic locations. Propolis can be classified according to characteristic chemical compounds of the source plants. Propolis is a good research material for plant chemists to study the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of propolis source plants.CONCLUSION Studies of the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of propolis and its source plants will greatly promote the development and utilization of propolis and source plants
