Abstract:Background: The mid-low speed Maglev train adopts the single-sided linear induction motors (SLIMs) as drive part, of which design and control method has become research hotspot when the velocity is elevated from 120 km/h to 160 km/h. Aim: For SLIMs applied in 160 km/h low-speed maglev train, the design scheme is introduced and then a novel variable slip frequency control method is proposed. Methods of the studies: This control method adopts low slip frequency at start-up to produce large starting traction force and high slip frequency during high velocity area to obtain great power. The influence to the normal force is also investigated. Results: With this method, the weight of the system can be effectively reduced and the lightweight design of SLIM is realized. Conclusion: The novel variable slip frequency control method meets the requirement of both high starting acceleration and enough residual acceleration for 160 km/h mid-low speed maglev train.

Abstract:Based on the simplified flux method, this paper presents a position sensorless technique for the switchedreluctance drives (SRD) with energy optimizing control strategy. The method employs a calibration routine to learn themagnetization characteristics of each motor phase at its aligned position. From this information, flux-current characteristics at commutation angle can be approximated through an on-line optimizing process to minimize the energy consumption.Commutation is accomplished by estimating the flux-linked in an active phase and comparing the flux optimized for the commutation angle. The experimental results show that this SRD position sensorless method which is based on an on-line adjustment of commutation angle can be implemented simply and tuned up to achieve high efficiency at wide operation range.

Abstract:The speed of permanent magnet synchronous motor was acquired using reduced-order Luenberger observer constructed from stator q-axis current and speed equation. The observer is simple and achieves fast convergence with the eigenvalues setting. The system controller was designed using direct feedback linearization control. The system features fast speed tracking and torque response. Matlab simulation result proves the efficiency and feasibility of the system design.

Abstract:In this paper, a sensorless drive of switched reluctance motor without predefined parameters is proposed to simplify the application of SRM. To avoid additional cost and unreliability caused by sensor device, sensorless control technology of SRM has attracted increasing attentions and obtains considerable development over recent years. The main idea behind most existing sensorless control strategy is extract the position information from electromagnetic status of the SRM through proper modeling and calculation, which usually demands accurate inherent electromagnetic parameters of SRM. The strategy proposed in this paper realizes the SRM drive function only with electric parameters which are easy to measure, such as rotor resistance, rated voltage and rated current. Pulse injection method is the essential theories of this design. The experiment result verifies this strategy to be a practical research direction in the application with no need for high precision.

Abstract:This paper proposes a high efficiency torque control method of switched reluctance motors (SRM) based on low loss commutation control algorithm. The total copper losses minimization of the motor has been investigated through adjusting of the commutation in order to improve the efficiency of the motor. An optimal algorithm has been used to determine the proper commutation path at each operation point. The proposed method extends the low loss commutation control strategy to achieve efficient operation in a wide range of speed. The simulation comparisons are also presented on a 12/8 switched reluctance motor to validate the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:Based on the quasi-linear model of the 12/8 switched reluctance motor,a switched reluctance drive system(SRD) was simulated.The speed adjusting range of SRD with the current chopped control(CCC) and angle position control(APC) were analyzed respectively,and a control strategy of the SRD with wide speed adjusting range was discussed.The simulation results proved the correctness and feasibility of the proposed control strategy.

Abstract:To lower the cost of brushless DC motor controller,designed a new speed control method using hall effect position sensors to provide speed measurements which can work without a high resolution encoder.A fuzzy logic controller was used to fix the system's instability and poor performance of speed adjusting,both of which were caused by the uneven speed sample rate.This method was simulated on computer by Simulink software.A sewing machine control system was also designed employing this new method using TMS320F28027 digital signal processor.The result of experiments showed that system worked stably and effectively.

Abstract:This paper presents two different variable frequency speed control strategies for self-commutating low speed reluctance motor(SCLRM)using SPWM and SVPWM,respectively,based on the introduction of the principle and construction of this kind of motor.The simulation models of the two control systems are built with MATLAB/SIMULINK.Besides,the concept of commutation-advance angle is proposed for,which acts as the time load angle adding to the space load angle for a certain current so as to increase the torque output.The simulation results are presented with analysis.

Abstract:This paper presents a type of low speed and high torque motor-semiconductor converting low speed reluctance motor (SCLRM) with novel structure and principle. In stead of any gearbox, SCLRM consists of a traditional VR low speed synchronous motor combined with a static converter composed only of six diodes. For this reason, SCLRM not only inherits the advantages of simple structure and techniques from the traditional VR low speed synchronous motor, but also overcomes its limitation of lower torque capability, which breaks a new approach to the research of low speed and high torque motors for direct drive applications. On the basis of introducing the motor structure and the self-exciting converting principle of SCLRM under three-phase AC supply, the mathematical models both in multiphase frame and in complex vector frame are established. Besides this, the linear magnetic network model is established, from which the calculation of the inductance of the phase windings and the calculation of the electromagnetic torque are derived, and the physical essence of the electromagnetic torque in SCLRM is also analyzed in detail. The simulation and the experimental results are well coincided.

Abstract:To solve the problems of low-load capacity and high torque pulsation of multiphase induction motor at low speed,the influences of the stator resistor and leakage reactance voltage drops as well as dead time effect were analyzed when the multiphase concentrated winding induction motors were fed with non-sinusoidal supply,a stator voltage oriented V/F control method was presented in this paper.The control scheme was based on the popular constant V/F method and compensated the stator resistor and leakage reactance voltage drops to keep the magnitude of the stator flux constant.The slip frequency and dead-time were also compensated to improve the system performance at low speed.The experiment results show that,by the proposed method,the multiphase motor can achieve the well dynamic response and good starting capacity with load.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel low-speed and high-torque motor, self-commutating low-speed reluctance motor (SCLRM), for direct drive applications. With six diodes connected to the stator windings, it is capable of self-commutating when working on normal three-phase AC source for constant speed operation. It provides an uncomplicated and low-cost method to increase the torque capability of the traditional vernier type motors without the requirement of permanent magnets and inverter drive. In this paper, the basic theory of SCLRM is presented, including the operation principle and the mathematical models, from which the calculation equations of the inductance parameters as well as the electromagnetic torque are deduced Besides, the simulation and implemental results are shown and the reasons of the improvement of the torque capability are analyzed. Moreover, an inverter drive system for SCLRM whose topology is different from that of the standard three-phase inverter is proposed for variable speed applications.

Abstract:Synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) is a special synchronous motor that completely utilizes reluctance torque to operate. Because of its low cost, solid structure and no risk of demagnetization at high temperatures, it has gradually attracted attention in recent years. In order to increase the reliability of the control system and take advantage of the low cost of synchronous reluctance motor, a sensorless control strategy in wide speed range is introduced in this paper. In low speed range, a high frequency voltage injection method is used to get the rotor position information. In middle or higher speed range, an active flux observer is introduced to realize the vector control. For the purpose of maintaining the stability, we adopted a weighted function method during the switching between these two observation methods. Finally, the proposed method is verified by experiments on a 5.5-kw SynRM which can work well down to 0 rpm and up to 1500rpm.

Abstract:A novel high precision mixed speed regulation method is presented, which is the combination of other-control and self-control. The principle of mixed speed regulation is analyzed, the cut-in condition of self-control to other-control, interior given frequency of other-control and the quick switch of other-control to self-control are analyzed in detail. The method is applied to simulation and experimental system, the results show that the method achieves high speed precision in static state, and quick response in dynamic state, which is suited for high precision speed regulation field.

A Speed Control Method for a Linear Switched Reluctance Motor with Different Pole Width

Abstract:Stator and translator pole width have a great effect on the LSRM's performance. However machining error and assembly error usually cause some dimensional difference among stators and translators. Thus a speed control method immune to dimensional difference is proposed for a four-phase linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM) with different pole width in this paper. The LSRM designed in such a structure is to explore how the pole width affects its performance and validate the proposed speed control method meanwhile. Since the parameters of each phase are non-identical due to the different pole width, a direct current controller is proposed. In order to avoid force dip, double phase excitation is suggested to against pole width variation and a new force distribution that is beneficial to reducing vibration and noise effectively is established. Finally, experiments are carried out to test and verify the speed control method. The speed response curves show the actual speed can be held within its specified value along the whole travel distance fast and precisely. Besides, the LSRM can track square and sinusoidal reference signal very well. All the experimental results validate that the proposed speed control method is immune to pole width variation and valid along the whole travel distance.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel topology of vernier motor for low speed and high torque applications. The motor has a doubly-toothed rotor sandwiched between the inside and outside stators. With six diodes connected to the stator windings, the motor is capable of self-commutating when working with the normal three-phase ac source for constant speed operation. In this paper, the configurations and the principles of operation of a 48.4r/min prototype motor are proposed, and the magnetic field distributions as well as the inductance parameters are analyzed by FEM. Besides, the influence of the configuration parameters on torque output is discussed.

Abstract:The sensorless control of the transverse-laminated synchronous reluctance motor is introduced, pointing out the negative effect of cross saturation. Then, an observer-based sensorless control scheme is proposed which solves this problem. Thus, a very good robustness against load variations is achieved. Moreover, the working speed is extended from zero to maximum speed, including the flux-weakening feature. This is obtained by a combined method of rotor position estimation, making use of both electromotive-force-based estimation and signal injection, without any need of additional voltage. A prototype drive has been assembled, making use of a commercial motor, and the obtained experimental results are given. A dynamic performance is achieved which is near to that of a sensored control, in the whole speed range. Moreover, position-sensorless position control is feasible.

Abstract:Turn-on angle and turn-off angle are not flexibly and precisely controlled,which limits the motor efficiency and performance at high speed. Sensorless position detection strategy was proposed with adjusting switched angle in real-time according to different speed. Flux linkage models at different positions were calculated by using the FE model. In order to improve angle position control precision,the principle of selecting reference flux linkage was presented based on characteristics of flux linkage model of SRM.On this basis,the angular position control of SRM was implemented by adjusting turn-on and turn-off angle in real-time at different speed. To verify the validity of the sensorless position detection strategy,a low-speed and high-speed prototype were used. The tests verify that proposed control strategy is suitable for low-speed and high-speed SRM and rotor position estimation precision is high.
