Application of Rigid Internal Fixation in the Infected Jaw Fractures

Abstract:Objective To assess the application of rigid internal fixation(RIF) in treatment of the infected jaw fractures.Methods Fourteen jaw fractures with infection before surgical management were involved in this investigation.All cases were debrided and simutaneously reducted and fixed by using plates.Postoperative clinical and radiological examination were available for 13 patients,which were followed up.Results Four of 14 patients suffered the complication after operation,3 got infected again,1 has inferior alveolar nerve numbness and others healed uneventfully.Conclusion The placement of plates at the same time of debriding the infection is a feasible means to treat the infected jaw fractures.
