Abstract:Ni-Fe/γ-Al2 O3 catalysts with four different γ-Al2 O3 supports were prepared by incipient impregnation and characterized by XRD,BET and H2-TPR.Catalytic behaviors of the catalysts for low-temperature CO methanation were investigated in a slurry reactor.The results showed that the surface texture properties of γ-Al2 O3 supports had great impact on distribution of Ni reactive species and methanation activity.Moderate specific surface area(192m2/g) and pore size(5.8 nm) of γ-Al2 O3 was favor for the dispersion of active component,resulting in a higher amount of β-NiO and smaller Ni crystal particle size,which increased active sites,thus having better methanation activity and stability,with a CO conversion of 97.0% and a CH4 selectivity of 89.0%.However,the catalyst prepared by high silica γ-Al2 O3 support with larger specific surface area contained a great amount of α-NiO,which was inclined to agglomerate in the reduction process,resulting in low catalytic activity and stability,with a CO initial conversion of 85.5% and rapid deactivation after 17 hours.

Abstract:Binary TiO2-Al2O3 serial composites(TA-x) and the NiMo supported catalysts(NiMo/TA-x) were successfully synthesized at different solvent evaporation temperatures,. The materials were characterized by several advanced characterization techniques, and the catalytic hydrodesulfurization (HDS) performances were evaluated. The results revealed that the synthesized TA-x serial composites are amorphous mixtures of TiO2 and Al2O3 with highly ordered two-dimensional hexagonal mesopores. Both the mesostructures and the acidities of the synthesized TA-x composites changed at different evaporation temperature of the solvent. The metal-support interaction(MSI), the existence states and the coordination states of the Mo precursors can be modulated by the changes in the physicochemical property of the TA-x composites caused by the solvent evaporating temperature. A moderate solvent evaporation temperature is favorable for the doping of Ni species into the MoS2 slab and Mo sulfidation degree, thus enhancing the proportion of the NiMoS active phases. Catalyst NiMo/TA-60 exhibits superior activity and the highest direct desulfurization(DDS) pathway selectivity due to the excellent acidity and pore structure property, the highest dispersion and the highest Mo sulfidation degree, a moderate MSI, the highest efficiency in the formation of NiMoS phase and the highest proportion of corner Mo atoms. Moreover, the rate constants of the specific HDS pathways can be correlated with the specific types of active sites: the DDS pathway (kDDS) is closely related to the proportion of corner active sites and the hydrogenation desulfurization pathway (kHYDS) is closely related to the proportion of brim sites. The activity of a single corner active site is found to be approximately 100 times that of a single edge active site. These findings are promising in the design of HDS catalysts for inferior distillates.
Highly Dispersed Nickel Within Mesochannels of SBA-15 for CO Methanation with Enhanced Activity and Excellent Thermostability

Abstract:In this work, several nickel-based SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by surfactant-assisted impregnation method and applied in CO methanation reaction. The characterization results showed that Ni species were uniformly distributed in the ordered mesoporous channels of SBA-15 by adding proper surfactants. The morphologies of the unroasted catalysts and spent catalysts after 100 h stability test were also investigated. The surfactant can hinder the migration of metal ions during drying and inhibit the aggregation of NiO during calcination, which ultimately improve the nickel dispersion. Consequently, the Ni/SBA-15 catalysts prepared with surfactant-assisted impregnation method exhibited superior activity and excellent thermostability owing to the moderate interaction between nickel and support, high nickel surface area and the confinement of support. The 10% Ni/S15(3) catalyst achieved the best activity with 100% CO conversion and about 99.9% CH4 yield at 350 degrees C, 0.3 MPa and 15,000 mL/g/h. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The methane dry reforming reaction can simultaneously convert two greenhouse gases (CH 4 and CO 2 ), which has significantly environmental and economic benefits. Nickel-based catalysts have been widely used in methane dry reforming in past decade due to their low cost and high activity. However, the sintering and coke deposition of catalysts severely limit their industrial applications. In this paper, three Ni/SiO 2 catalysts prepared by different methods were systematically studied, and the samples obtained by the ammonia evaporation method exhibited excellent catalytic performance. The characterization results such as H 2 -TPR, XPS and TEM confirmed that the excellent performance was mainly attributed to the catalyst with smaller Ni particles, stronger metal-support interactions, and abundant Ni-O-Si units on the catalyst surface. The anti-sintering/-coking properties of the catalyst were significantly improved. However, the Ni/SiO 2 -IM catalyst prepared by impregnation method had uneven distribution of nickel species and large particles, and weak metal-support interactions, showing poor catalytic performance in methane dry reforming. Since the nickel species were encapsulated by the SiO 4 tetrahedral network, the Ni/SiO 2 -SG catalyst prepared by sol-gel method could not expose more effective active sites even if the nickel species were uniformly dispersed, resulting in poor dry reforming performance. This study provides guidance for the preparation of novel anti-sintering/-coking nickel-based catalysts.

Abstract:Supported Ni catalysts are prepared by water impregnation, ammonia impregnation and ammonia impregnation combined with dielectric-barrier discharge (DBD) method. The catalyst prepared by the third method shows superior activity, excellent aiti-sintering and anti-coking performances at high temperature in CO methanation. For this catalyst X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy reveal the high dispersion of Ni particles. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy shows special surface with more Ni(111). Temperature programmed reduction uncovers the strong metal–support interaction between Ni and SiO2. This is mainly caused by the formation of nickel-containing phyllosilicate during ammonia impregnation and the controlled growth at lower temperature in subsequent process of DBD treatment. High dispersion of Ni particles leads to improved activity. Strong metal–support interaction suppresses the mobility of Ni particles, which further improves the anti-sintering performance of Ni/SiO2. Small Ni particles with more Ni(111) facets inhibit carbon deposition. Hence, DBD method combined with ammonia impregnation is an effective way to enhance the activity and high temperature stability of Ni/SiO2 catalyst.

Abstract:Several Ni-based SBA-16 catalysts were synthesized by a citric acid (CA)-assisted impregnation method and applied for syngas methanation in a fix-bed reactor. Various characterization techniques (N-2 physical adsorption, powder X-ray diffraction, temperature-programmed reduction, temperature -programmed desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet visible spectroscopy) were used to characterize the catalysts. The amount of citric acid has significant influence on the properties of the catalysts. A small amount of CA could improve the dispersion of nickel species and refine the particle size of the catalysts. The refined nickel particles (3-5 nm) could anchor into the pores (6-7 nm) of the silica, which leads to the confinement of nickel particles. The best activity was obtained on Ni/SBA-16-15%CA catalysts with 100% CO conversion and 99.9% CH4 selectivity at 350 degrees C, 0.1 MPa, and 15 000 mL/g/h. The catalysts prepared with CA exhibited excellent stability after being calcined at high temperature, which could be attributed to the refined nickel particles anchored into the pores of the silica.
Synthesis and Characterization of Well Dispersed Nickel-Incorporated SBA-15 and Its High Activity in Syngas Methanation Reaction

Abstract:Ni-incorporated SBA-15 materials were successfully synthesized by pH adjusting method using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as the pH regulator and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source. The results of transmission electron microscope (TEM) and H-2 pulse chemisorption showed that nickel particles of the Ni-S15 catalysts prepared by pH adjusting method were much finer and more uniform dispersion than those of Ni/S15 catalyst prepared by traditional impregnation method. The nickel dispersions of Ni-S15(pH8) and Ni/S15 were 3.6% and 2.5%, respectively. In addition, the pH value strongly affected the amount of nickel introduced in the silica framework. The catalytic performances were also investigated for synthetic natural gas (SNG) production via syngas methanation reaction. The Ni-S15(pH8) catalyst prepared by pH adjusting method achieved the best activity with 100% CO conversion and 98.6% CH4 yield at 350 degrees C, 0.3 MPa and 15000 mL/g/h. Meanwhile, the Ni-S15(pH8) catalyst possessed excellent stability and high-temperature-resistant performance due to the strong interaction between NiO and support. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Effects of Α- and Γ-Cyclodextrin-modified Impregnation Method on Physicochemical Properties of Ni/SBA-15 and Its Catalytic Performance in CO2 Reforming of Methane

Abstract:Organic compounds containing multiple hydroxyl groups, namely α-cyclodextrin and γ-cyclodextrin, were used as additives for promoting Ni dispersion on supported Ni/SBA-15 catalysts. Catalysts prepared using modified and unmodified impregnation methods were characterized using N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, temperature-programmed reduction, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their catalytic performance in the CO2 reforming of methane (CRM) to syngas was evaluated. The results show that compared with Ni/SBA-15 prepared using a conventional impregnation method, the cyclodextrin-modified catalysts had smaller NiO particles. They also exhibited higher catalytic activity and had stronger ability to resist carbon deposition in the CRM. Mechanistic studies showed that for the unmodified catalysts, Ni2+ could migrate into the channels of SBA-15 as a result of concentration differences, and the Ni species were sintered during the following thermal treatment processes, and could not be well dispersed. In contrast, various types of complex were formed between Ni(NO3)2 and the cyclodextrins, and this would be favorable for Ni2+ being taken into the channels of the SBA-15. The presence of cyclodextrins was beneficial to the mutual isolation of Ni species, and finally resulted in better dispersion of Ni species.

Abstract:In this paper, the effects of TiO2 addition and different preparation methods on catalysts structure and CO2 methanation activity of Ni/SiO2 catalysts are investigated. Compared with wetness impregnation and sol‐gel method, hydrothermal method was demonstrated to be a more efficient means for preparing Ni/SiO2 catalysts with more suitable pore structure, more active sites on the catalyst surface and better catalytic performance. Ni/SiO2 catalysts with different TiO2 concentrations were synthesized by hydrothermal method for comparison with those without TiO2 introduced. The results showed the TiO2‐promoted Ni/SiO2‐HS‐xTi exhibited higher activity and CH4 selectivity. Among this group, the Ni/SiO2‐HS‐2Ti catalyst performed the best, achieving 53.2% CO2 conversion at 350 oC, 0.1 MPa and WHSV of 45000 mL·g‐1·h‐1. The conclusions of the characterization analysis indicated that TiO2 effectively promoted the Ni dispersion on the SiO2 surface while reduced Ni particle size. In addition, TiO2 increased the amount of weak basic sites on the SiO2 surface and the electron cloud density around the active metal Ni, which facilitated the CO2 adsorption and activation. Abstract:As a pure combustible gas with a high calorific value, methane has long been favored, and that is why the CO2 methanation reaction is attracting more and more attention. However, it is still challenging for this reaction due to the chemical inertness of CO2 molecules, poor reaction efficiency at low temperatures, catalyst sintering at high temperatures, and carbon monoxide toxicity. Herein, the ammonia evaporation method was utilized to synthesize a series of Zn-modified Ni/SiO2 catalysts with high surface area and high dispersity of active metals. The 80Ni-Zn/SiO2 catalyst with an appropriate Ni/Zn molar ratio of 80:1 exhibited a high-performance breakthrough with a CO2 conversion greater than 80% at 300 °C, good stability for 40 h at 310 °C, and a gas hourly space velocity of 18,000 mL·g–1·h–1. These catalysts were further characterized by using a series of methods like in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy to investigate the structural properties and potential reaction pathways. The effect of the Zn promoter on the Ni/SiO2 catalyst for CO2 methanation has been well investigated, namely, improving Ni dispersion and enhancing the H2 adsorption. The findings demonstrate the broad availability, affordability, and remarkable high-performance practicability of the raw ingredients for the production of Ni-based catalysts for commercial applications.

Abstract:A series of Ni/SBA-15 (AM) catalysts were prepared by chelating ligand assisted impregnation method. The results showed that the chelating ligand played a positive promoting role for CH4 dry reforming with CO2 over Ni/SBA-15. The electron-pair donor atoms and the high viscosity of chelating agent could inhibit the aggregation of nickel species and contribute to the well-dispersed Ni particles with size of <6 nm. Compared to the Ni/SBA-15 (CM) prepared by conventional impregnation, all the Ni/SBA-15 (AM) exhibited superior catalytic performance, especially the catalyst assisted by ethylenediamine possessed stable activity and the least amount of carbon deposition. Abstract:The performance of Ni/SiO2 catalyst in the process of combination of CO2 reforming and partial oxidation of methane to produce syngas was studied. The Ni/SiO2 catalysts were prepared by using incipient wetness impregnation method with nickel nitrate as a precursor and characterized by FT-IR, TG-DTA, UV-Raman, XRD, TEM, and H-2-TPR. The metal nickel particles with the average size of 37.5nm were highly dispersed over the catalyst, while the interaction between nickel particles and SiO2 support is relatively weak. The weak NiO-SiO2 interaction disappeared after repeating oxidation-reduction-oxidation in the fluidized bed reactor at 700 degrees C, which resulted in the sintering of metal nickel particles. As a result, a rapid deactivation of the Ni/SiO2 catalysts was observed in 2.5 h reaction on stream.
Enhanced sintering resistance of bimetal/SBA-15 catalysts with promising activity under a low temperature for CO methanation

Abstract:According to its thermodynamic equilibrium analysis and strong exothermic characteristics, the major challenge of syngas methanation is to develop a high-efficient low-temperature catalyst with superior sintering resistance. In this study, bimetal-based SBA-15 catalysts were prepared via a citric acid-assisted impregnation method and applied in CO methanation. The obtained catalysts were characterized via X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, H2 temperature-programmed reduction and other techniques. Combining the structural characterization of the fresh and used catalyst, the function of the organic additive and metal promoters was revealed. The catalysts exhibited superior low-temperature activity and excellent sintering resistance owing to the electron migration from the additive metal to Ni, strong interaction between the metal and support and the confinement effect of the support. The catalyst with Mo as a promotor exhibited the best dispersion and the largest surface concentration of nickel, which resulted in its highest catalytic activity among the catalysts. The design and preparation of a highly effective catalyst can provide novel insight into the preparation of other catalysts.

Abstract:A series of Ni-Co/SiO2 catalysts were synthesized through a novel ammonia reflux impregnation method for application in the CH4-CO2 reforming reaction. The prepared catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, NH3-TPD, H2-TPR, N2 physisorption analysis, XPS, TEM, IR and TG-DSC. The activity of the catalyst was evaluated by a fixed-bed continuous reactor. The results exhibited that refluxing with ammonia water in the catalyst preparation process can regulate the particle size and dispersion of bimetallic phase, and further enhance the interaction between active metal phase and carrier. Moreover, the Ni-Co/SiO2 bimetallic catalyst can significantly improve the activity and of CH4-CO2 reforming reaction and provide high stability and carbon deposition resistance performance. The active metal phase Ni and Co with the molar ratio of 4:1 by ammonia reflux impregnation had the better reaction performance than catalysts prepared by equal volume impregnation method, with the highest conversion of CH4 (86.22%), CO2 (87.93%) and the least carbon deposition (0.88%). The improvement of the reactivity should be due to the synergistic effect of Ni and Co of the catalyst.

Abstract:Novel structure catalyst of Ni@S2-T with Ni nanoparticles highly dispersed in silicalite-2 zeolite (S2) was designed and synthesized via novel two-steps methods, micro-emulsion method followed by solvent-free crystallization route. Due to the unique two-step synthetic process, the confinement effect of the silicalite-2 shell and stronger metal-support interaction caused by the formation of Ni phyllosilicate intermediate in shell, were regarded as the main reasons for the superb catalytic performances of Ni@S2-T for dry reforming of methane (DRM). Compared with Ni-SiO2 by micro-emulsion method, Ni/S2 by impregnation method and Ni@S2-O by direct crystallization, Ni@S2-T catalyst exhibited optimal catalytic activity and stability for DRM. No activity loss was observed during 70 h at high GHSV of 240000 mL g(-1)h(-1). Meanwhile, over spent Ni@S2-T catalyst, hardly any coke was found after the prolonged test, which indicated the remarkable anti-coking ability of Ni@S2-T.

Abstract:A Ni/TiO2(TBT) catalyst was prepared through in situ precipitation, using tetrabutyl titanate(TBT) as the TiO2 precursor, and was studied in CO methanation. A Ni catalyst supported on commercial TiO2 was also prepared through post precipitation and studied to compare the influence of Ni precipitation conditions on the catalyst’s performance. To gain insight on their structure and physicochemical properties, the catalysts were characterized with N2-adsorption, X-ray diffraction, transimission electron microscopy, H2 temperature programmed reduction and temperature programmed desorption. The results showed that the in situ precipitation method was beneficial to the dispersion of Ni and the formation of more active sites on the Ni/TiO2 catalyst. In addition, the density of the metal- support boundary and its interaction with the active component were also increased. These characteristics of Ni/TiO2(TBT) led to a lower light-off temperature and a suppression of Ni sintering during CO methanation. As a consequence, the Ni/TiO2(TBT) exhibited better catalytic behavior, with a CO conversion of 99.4% and CH4 selectiv-ity of 90.4% under the following conditions: p=1 MPa, t=320 °C, n(H2)/n(CO)=3, gas hour space velocity (GHSV)=2×104 mL·g–1·h–1. The life test results of the two catalysts showed that Ni/TiO2(TBT) was more stable and the catalytic activity remained at its initial level after being used for 30 h.
Effect of Ni Precipitation Method on CO Methanation over Ni/TiO 2 Catalysts

Abstract:A Ni/TiO2(TBT) catalyst was prepared through in situ precipitation, using tetrabutyl titanate(TBT) as the TiO2 precursor, and was studied in CO methanation. A Ni catalyst supported on commercial TiO2 was also prepared through post precipitation and studied to compare the influence of Ni precipitation conditions on the catalyst’s performance. To gain insight on their structure and physicochemical properties, the catalysts were characterized with N2-adsorption, X-ray diffraction, transimission electron microscopy, H2 temperature programmed reduction and temperature programmed desorption. The results showed that the in situ precipitation method was beneficial to the dispersion of Ni and the formation of more active sites on the Ni/TiO2 catalyst. In addition, the density of the metal- support boundary and its interaction with the active component were also increased. These characteristics of Ni/TiO2(TBT) led to a lower light-off temperature and a suppression of Ni sintering during CO methanation. As a consequence, the Ni/TiO2(TBT) exhibited better catalytic behavior, with a CO conversion of 99.4% and CH4 selectiv-ity of 90.4% under the following conditions: p=1 MPa, t=320 °C, n(H2)/n(CO)=3, gas hour space velocity (GHSV)=2×104 mL·g–1·h–1. The life test results of the two catalysts showed that Ni/TiO2(TBT) was more stable and the catalytic activity remained at its initial level after being used for 30 h.

Abstract:Ni-Al2O3 catalysts prepared by solution combustion method for syngas methanation were enhanced by employing various heating rate and different solvent. The catalytic properties were tested in syngas methanation. The result indicates that both of heating rate and solvent remarkably affect Ni particle size, which is a key factor to the catalytic activity of Ni-Al2O3 catalysts for syngas methanation. Moreover, the relationship between Ni particle size and the production rate of methane per unit mass was correlated. The optimal Ni-Al2O3 catalyst prepared in ethanol at 2°C/min, achieves a maximum production rate of methane at the mean size of 20.8 nm.
Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of Anti-Sintering Nickel Incorporated MCM-41 Methanation Catalysts

Abstract:Several nickel incorporated MCM-41 catalysts with a nickel molar content from 1% to 10% were prepared by a hydrothermal synthesis method, and investigated for their catalytic performances for the production of substitute natural gas (SNG) from syngas methanation in a continuous flow fixed-bed reactor. The catalysts were characterized by FTIR, ICP, XRD, H-2-TPR, TG-DTA and TEM, and the results showed that the mesoporous structure of MCM-41 still maintained well when the incorporated Ni molar content was up to 10%. The Ni-M catalyst prepared by the hydrothermal synthesis method with a nickel molar content of 10% showed the best catalytic activity with a high CO conversion of almost 100%, and a CH4 yield of 95.7% at 350 degrees C with 3: 1 molar ratio of H-2 to CO under 1.0 MPa and 12000 ml/h/g. Compared with the 10% Ni/M catalyst prepared by the impregnation method, the 10% Ni-M catalyst showed a higher resistance to sintering and no decrease in catalytic activity after calcination at 700 degrees C for 2 h. In the 100 h stability test under atmospheric pressure, the CO conversion rate and the CH4 yield obtained on 10% Ni-M catalyst maintained at about 100% and 82%, respectively, suggesting an excellent catalytic stability of this catalyst. The results of XRD, H-2-TPR and TG-DTA showed that there was a strong interaction between the Ni species and the support, which inhibited the catalyst sintering. And the amount of coke formed on the spent 10% Ni-M catalyst in the stability test was 3.0 wt%. The coke formation was relatively easily to remove by calcination because the deposited carbon had a small particle size and uniform dispersion on the catalyst. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
