Abstract:Ordinary concrete is a porous material that is susceptible to chloride ions in the marine environment. Due to the addition of polymer fibers, the resistance of highly ductile fiber reinforced cement matrix composites (ECC) to chlorine erosion is also poor. In order to improve the resistance of ECC to ion erosion, a cementitious osmotic crystalline waterproofing material (CCCW) is added to ECC. The effect of CCCW on the mechanical properties and resistance to chloride ion penetration of ECC, compressive, flexural, and tensile loading tests were carried out on ECC incorporated with different types and dosages of CCCW. The rapid chloride ion migration coefficient method (RCM) was used to figure out the variations of chloride ion permeation resistance. Moreover, an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), mercury intrusion method (MIP), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were conducted to observe the variations at the microscopic level. The results showed that, the mechanical properties of ECC and the resistance to chloride ion penetration both increase firstly and then decrease with the increase in CCCW content. When the content of CCCW was 0.8%, the strength and resistance to chloride ion permeation of ECC reached their peaks. It is indicated that the XYPEX type CCCW has a better effect in enhancing ECCâ€™s strength, while the SY1000 type CCCW has better performance in enhancing the chloride ion penetration resistance. XRD, MIP, and SEM analyses showed that after adding CCCW, the content of hydration products increased, leading to more complete hydration and denser structure, and the pore structure was improved, the porosity and permeability decreased, so the matrix was denser. The hydration products near the interfaces between fiber and matrix decrease after chloride ion penetration, but this reduction is alleviated after adding CCCW, which explains the positive influences brought by CCCW corporation.
