Abstract:In this work, carbon spheres (CSs) derived from glucose by simple green eco-friendly process have been used to create a multiphase environment for precipitation reaction to obtain one-dimensional C-doped ZnO nanomaterial. The structure, morphology and optical properties of samples have been characterized by XRD, FESEM, TEM, XPS, UV-Vis and PL. The results indicate that the existence of carbon spheres changed the crystal orientation and morphology of ZnO. When the amount of carbon spheres is 13%, the one-dimensional (1D) needle-like single crystal C-doped ZnO have been formed, which expose higher proportion of nonpolar {1010} facets (51%) than that of ZnO (46%) and form C-Zn and C-O-Zn bonds. Compared with ZnO prepared by direct precipitation method without carbon spheres, 13%C-ZnO enhances the absorption of light and reduces the band gap width and surface defects. The photocatalytic degradation rate of methyl orange over 13%C-ZnO is 99.98% for 3h under 15W UV lamp, which is almost 1.3 times higher than that of ZnO obtained by precipitation reaction, and it is still 99% after three cycles. Consequently, this study offers a new preparation method for 1D C-ZnO by precipitation reaction with efficient catalysis.
