Abstract:This paper concerns multivariate homogeneous refinement equations of the form φ (x) = ∑_α∈ℤ^S a(α )φ (Mx - α ) + x∈ℝ ^s , and multivariate nonhomogeneous refinement equations of the form φ (x) = ∑_α∈ℤ^S a(α )φ (Mx - α ) + g(x)∈ℝ ^s , where ϕ=(ϕ 1 ,...,ϕ r ) T is the unknown, M is an s × s dilation matrix with m =|det M |, g =( g 1 ,..., g r ) T is a given compactly supported vector-valued function on R s , and a is a finitely supported refinement mask such that each a (α) is an r × r (complex) matrix. In this paper, we characterize the optimal smoothness of a multiple refinable function associated with homogeneous refinement equations in terms of the spectral radius of the corresponding transition operator restricted to a suitable finite-dimensional invariant subspace when M is an isotropic dilation matrix. Abstract:The new second-order and third-order iterative methods without derivatives are presented for solving nonlinear equations; the iterative formulae based on the homotopy perturbation method are deduced and their convergences are provided. Finally, some numerical experiments show the efficiency of the theoretical results for the above methods.

Abstract:This paper deals with a functional equation and inequality arising in dynamic programming of multistage decision processes. Using several fixed-point theorems due to Krasnoselskii, Boyd–Wong and Liu, we prove the existence and/or uniqueness and iterative approximations of solutions, bounded solutions and bounded continuous solutions for the functional equation in two Banach spaces and a complete metric space, respectively. Utilizing the monotone iterative method, we establish the existence and iterative approximations of solutions and nonpositive solutions for the functional inequality in a complete metric space. Six examples which dwell upon the importance of our results are also included.

Abstract:We establish the existence theory of several commonly used finite element (FE) nonlinear fully discrete solutions, and the convergence theory of a linearized iteration. First, it is shown for standard FE, SUPG and edge-averaged method respectively that the stiffness matrix is a column M-matrix under certain conditions, and then the existence theory of these three FE nonlinear fully discrete solutions is presented by using Brouwer's fixed point theorem. Second, the contraction of a commonly used linearized iterative method-Gummel iteration is proven, and then the convergence theory is established for the iteration. At last, a numerical experiment is shown to verifies the theories.

Abstract:A mathematical technique based on an auxiliary differential equation and the symbolic computation system Maple is employed to investigate a prototypical and nonlinear K(n,n) equation with variable coefficients. The exact solutions to the equation are constructed analytically under various circumstances. It is shown that the variable coefficients and the exponent appearing in the equation determine the quantitative change in the physical structures of the solutions.

Abstract:In this paper we consider system of inequalities. By constructing a new smoothing function, the problem is approximated via a family of parameterized smooth equations. A Newton-type algorithm is applied to solve iteratively the smooth equations so that a solution of the problem concerned is found. We show that the algorithm is globally and locally quadratically convergent under suitable assumptions. Preliminary numerical results are reported.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of parametric equilibrium problems governed by a trifunction. We apply the Fan-KKM theorem under new type of monotonicity and coercivity conditions for trifunctions to obtain the existence result of a solution for the equilibrium problem. For the solution map of parametric equilibrium problems, we obtain the Hölder-type Lipschitz-like property relative to a closed and convex set, which generalizes some existing results in the literature. We illustrate the application of our abstract results in the study of a new model of a fluid flow problem with slip and leak boundary conditions of frictional type.

Abstract:We presented a family of iteration methods for solving the approximate solutions of the nonlinear equations f(x)=0.We proved the iteration methods have third-order convergence,and the methods have the advantage of avoiding the computation of the second Frechet derivative.We performed different numerical tests that confirm the theoretical results.Our methods can compete with Newton's method and some classical third-order methods.

Abstract:This paper deals with the semilinear Rayleigh–Stokes equation with the fractional derivative in time of order , which can be used to model anomalous diffusion in viscoelastic fluids. An operator family related to this problem is defined, and its regularity properties are investigated. We firstly give the concept of the mild solutions in terms of the operator family and then obtain the existence of global mild solutions by means of fixed point technique. Moreover, the existence and regularity of classical solutions are given.

Abstract:We introduce an iterative method for solving symmetric systems of non-linear equations without computing Jacobian and gradient using the special structure of the underlying function. This derivative-free feature makes it solve relatively large-scale problems. We show that the proposed method has global and linear convergence properties under appropriate conditions. We also report some numerical results to show its efficiency.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with an equation in nonlinear combination of iterates. Although it can be reduced by the logarithm conjugacy to a form for application of Schauder's or Banach's fixed point theorems, a difficulty called Zero Problem is encountered for continuous solutions because the domain does not contain $0$. So we consider solutions with weaker regularity, using the Knaster-Tarski fixed point theorem for complete lattices to give order-preserving solutions. Then we give semi-continuous solutions and integrable solutions.
