Abstract:With the rapid development of national economy, the construction industry has been fast developed. At the same time, the industry encounters some new problems, such as: slow response, disadvantaged financing and uncontrollable cost, low risk resistance capacity etc. These situations have seriously restricted the healthy development of construction industry. The supply chain management theory emphasis the system integration and the information sharing, applied to many several fields. This paper references the system integration thought of supply chain management to conduct the thorough analytical study on the application and value chain in the construction industry based on the supply chain management theory, and combining the actual situation of construction industry put forward the concrete countermeasures and suggestions. Consequently, the application of the supply chain management theory is able to obviously enhance the core competence and promote the harmonious development of the construction.

Abstract:The relevance of supply chain management (SCM) is being increasingly recognized in the construction industry. However, its implementation has been limited and is still challenging for researchers and practitioners. An adequate and systematic understanding of context-specific core concepts and practices are considered fundamental to foster its implementation. This paper aims to provide a holistic look into the existing research on elements underlying SCM in the construction industry. It adopts a systematic literature review method to examine almost two decades of publications and uses a comprehensive SCM framework to synthesize the findings. The results revealed a set of 19 core elements clustered in five subject areas (i.e., ‘strategic management’, ‘logistics’, ‘relationships’, ‘best practices’ and ‘organizational behavior’) that have a prominent role in construction SCM. Every core element was analyzed in detail and the results were discussed in the context of other evidence. This study produced the first comprehensive picture of the current state of knowledge, providing relevant contributions to enhance the understanding and implementation of SCM within the construction industry.

Abstract:Construction supply chain management is very important for the improvement of engineering perform-ance.It is one of the important topics in engineering management.Engineering system complexity makes some theories of manufacturing supply chain management not applicable to engineering practice.Firstly, the elements of supply chain theory are identified and analyzed in engineering practice.Secondly, the paper defines and iden-tifies the concept and connotation of construction supply chain.Then, differences and similarities between manu-facturing supply chain and construction supply chain are sorted out and summarized.Based on the above studies, the paper proposes out key elements should be concerned during construction supply chain management and prac-tice.It aims to provide a theoretical basis for improving construction supply chain management performance.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of supply chain integration (SCI) in improving sustainability management practices (SMPs) and performance. Design/methodology/approach - Based on data collected from 931 manufacturing firms in multiple countries and regions, the authors conducted a structural equation modeling analysis to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings - The findings suggest that supplier and customer integration are vital enablers for both intra- and inter-organizational SMPs. The results also reveal that both intra- and inter-organizational SMPs are significantly and positively associated with sustainability performance (i.e. economic, environmental and social performance) and function as complements to jointly enhance environmental and social performance. Originality/value - This study incorporates SCI into the sustainability literature, providing a new perspective on sustainability and supply chain management research.

Abstract:The burgeoning application of advanced information technology in the construction industry has led to the widespread adoption of smart construction sites (SCSs) in recent years. As a novel concept, smart construction site application maturity (SCS-AM) aims to identify the pivotal factors impeding the current progression of SCSs and foster the metamorphosis of the construction sector. Through a meticulous review of the existing literature, this study delineates 14 fundamental factors influencing SCS-AM. Employing both Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), alongside the acquisition of 217 valid questionnaires, practitioners' perceptions regarding these factors within the smart construction domain were examined. This study initially categorized the 14 factors into four dimensions by utilizing the EFA method: technological innovation and integration (TII), project management and implementation (PMI), collaboration mechanism and information sharing (CMIS), and standardization and compliance (SC). Subsequently, a first-order CFA was employed to elucidate the correlations between the observed variables and latent factors, while a second-order CFA was employed to delve into the interplay among the first-order factors and their collective influence on SCS-AM. The results underscore the paramount impact of standardization and compliance (SC) and technological innovation and integration (TII) on SCS-AM. By meticulously analyzing the key influencing factors, this study offers theoretical underpinnings for bolstering SCS-AM, thereby providing stakeholders such as governments and construction enterprises with strategic insights for future development endeavors.

Abstract:Smart construction enterprises are the key subjects in the development and practical transformation of smart building technology, and their sustainable development has been a hot research topic in the new era. In the context of the new round of technology and industrial revolution, the rapid accumulation of development uncertainties and their possible transformation into risks at any time, as well as the ambiguity of growth mechanisms and the loss of strategies, have become major challenges that may constrain the development and strategic management of enterprises. Based on SWOT, BCG, GE, QSPM and principal component analysis methods, this paper constructs a new framework combining theory and practice organically for quantitative identification and evaluation of influencing factors, and analysis of strategy selection and the decision-making process. It will provide a scientific basis for sustainable development and strategic management of smart construction enterprises. DK Company is a typical smart building enterprise in China, and the results of its empirical study show that: Firstly, the 28 variable elements influencing the sustainable development of smart construction enterprises can be summarized into six key factors, with significant differences in their influence, and the external influence far greater than the internal driving force. Secondly, a priority set of six alternatives for strategic decision-making and implementation is proposed, based on the quantitative strategy selection and matching analysis, which improves the accuracy and practicality of the study findings.

Critical risk factors for construction supply chain in China: a fuzzy synthetic evaluation analysis

Abstract:Purpose Inefficiency dilemmas in project governance are caused by various risks arising from the characteristic of construction supply chain projects, such as poor project performance, conflicts between stakeholders and cost overrun. This research aims to establish a fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) model to analyze construction supply chain risk factors. Corresponding risk mitigation strategies are provided to facilitate the improvement performance of ongoing construction supply chain projects. Design/methodology/approach A literature review is utilized to reveal the deficiencies of construction supply chain risk management. Thus, a total of five hundred (500) questionnaires are distributed to construction professionals, and four hundred and thirty-five (435) questionnaires are recovered to obtain the evaluation data of construction professionals on critical risk factors. Additionally, the FSE is used to analyze and rank the significance of critical risk factors. Finally, this research discusses nine critical risk factors with high weight in the model, and explains the reason for the significance of critical risk factors in the construction supply chain. Findings The questionnaire results show that the thirty-one (31) identified critical risk factors are verified by related practitioners (government departments, universities and research institutions, owners, construction units, financial institutions, design units, consulting firms). Thirty-one (31) identified critical risk factors are divided into common risks, risks from contractors and risks from owners. The most significant factors in the three categories, respectively, are "political risks," "owner's unprofessional" approach and "cash flow." Managing these risks can facilitate the development of the construction supply chain. Originality/value This paper expands the research perspective of construction supply chain risk management and complements the risks in the construction supply chain. For practitioners, the research result provides some corresponding measures to deal with these risks. For researchers, the research result provides the direction of construction supply chain risk treatment.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to evaluate the construction supply chain (CSC) by examining its relationships with various key areas and its development, identifying gaps and outlining potential future research directions that affect the implementation of CSC standards during the timeframe of the United Nations' "Decade of Action" plans in the past two decades. Design/methodology/approach This paper reports on a systematic literature review with bibliometric analysis that investigates publications from around the world on various aspects of CSC. These aspects include research methodology/data collection technique, inquiry mode, country-specific research, focused areas of study, the research aims and publication periods. Findings The findings of the study reveal that information technology, information sharing, collaboration, performance measurement and CSC configuration have received considerable attention and analysis. However, financial management, supply chain resilience, logistics, vendor managed inventory and rural CSC have been identified as significant areas that require further investigation since limited attention has been given to them in the existing literature. Research limitations/implications CSC is a very dominant topic in the current study, but there are some limitations to it. Scopus and Web of Science databases were used to conduct the study. A future study can therefore consider papers related to other databases. As the focus was specifically dedicated to construction material SC only, the papers associated with SCs of labours and equipment have been eradicated. Originality/value To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first structured and systematic literature review that identifies the issues related to the CSC during the timeframe of the United Nations' "Decade of Action" plans and proposes future research directions to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of CSC.

Abstract:Scientific identification of the factors that underpin the success of construction program can effectively promote the success of construction program. Based on literature statistics, this paper developed the measurement items of key success factors of construction program in Chinese context. Based on exploratory factor analysis, seven key success factors of construction program were extracted. Then, the excellence model of construction program was constructed by referring to the ideas, concepts, and theoretical mechanisms of EFQM model. The research conclusions of this paper provide a systematic and holistic guidance for the successful implementation of the program by the construction program organization and promote the success of the program.

Abstract:The heightened risk exposure of construction supply chains (SCs) calls for greater resilience. Focussing on industrialized construction (IC), this study examines how supply chain resilience (SCR) can be boosted through clear identification of the relevant and appropriate supply chain capabilities (SCC) that construction firms would then need to nurture and/or develop further. This study conducted a systematic review of SCC related literature, followed by an in-depth analysis and consolidation of the findings which enabled the development of a proposed action framework for achieving SCR in IC. The results revealed 58 SCC related to IC and mapped the yearly publication trend, publications by country and methodological approaches followed in previous research. Thematic analysis was conducted to categorize the identified SCC into 12 newly formulated constructs. Further, the findings help to identify a suite of capabilities (SCC) to develop value-enhanced resilient SCs in IC and provide a foundation for further research in SCR in the construction industry.

Abstract:Abstract The materials supply chain in the construction industry involves many independent actors, creating complex, dependent relationships, including competitive and cooperative relationships. To develop together, chain members need to build a long-term cooperative relationship for mutual benefits, promote the development of chain members and improve the operational efficiency of the construction supply chain. Therefore, studies to measure and improve this relationship are urgently needed. Within the scope of the present article, the authors carry out work with the aim of assessing the current status of the relationship between construction contractors and partners in their material supply chain and ranking the factors affecting the relationship. From the synthesis of research documents, the report outlines eight factors affecting the construction supply chain cooperation, namely: trust, information sharing, choosing the right partner, profit and risk sharing, senior management support, problem solving, transaction frequency and culture of cooperation. A survey was carried out with subjects who are senior leaders of construction enterprises, project directors/deputy directors, site commanders/deputy commanders, employees of different departments. contractors and field engineers. Data from 132 valid questionnaires were used for the study. Based on the survey results, the authors assessed the current relationship with the members in the supply chain and the impact of these factors on the cooperation between construction enterprises and their supply chain partners. The research results of the present article can help construction enterprises identify important influencing factors and take appropriate measures so as to strengthen the cooperative relationships with the stakeholders. This would help improve the operational efficiency of the supply chain.
Critical Factors Influencing the Sustainable Construction Capability in Prefabrication of Chinese Construction Enterprises

Abstract:Compared with the conventional cast-in-situ method, prefabricated construction (PC) is a sustainable construction method. In China, the sustainable performance qualities of PC—such as its improved quality, lower cost and shorter turnaround—have barely been achieved. This is likely attributable to the weak sustainable construction capability of construction enterprises in undertaking PC projects. This study observed that there is relatively scant research on critical influencing factors relating to this capability, after investigating the most recent literature about PC development obstacles. Without a clear understanding of this knowledge, construction enterprises are unlikely to formulate effective measures to enhance their sustainable construction capability to tackle efficiency, cost, risk, and broader performance issues in PC. Therefore, this study identified 27 factors from the literature and interviews, ranked these factors using the Entropy method and the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP), examined the top five critical factors, and discussed the problem-solving measures. This study drew the conclusion that construction enterprises should focus on PC business scope expansion, project delivery quality improvement, and technology investment and innovation, as well as the return on investments in technology. It is also suggested that incentivised strategies be formulated by the Chinese government in order to improve industry practitioners’ capability of implementing sustainable PC projects. This will eventually expedite the industry’s transformation towards leaner, more efficient and sustainable practice.

Abstract:The wide and in-depth adoption of advanced information technologies within the construction industry has led to its revolution of all aspects; the construction site is not an exception. Recently, the notion of a smart construction site (SCS) has drawn the attention of all stakeholders within the industry. While the practice of SCS could be witnessed in various regions and the notion is mentioned frequently, the concept of SCS is still emerging, a sound framework for SCS development is still absent. As a bottom-up phenomenon, a systematic analysis of critical factors would provide all stakeholders with a comprehensive view of SCS development. In this research, previous research and existing practices of SCS are referred to, which helps to identify 17 critical factors for SCS development from the perspective of management, technology, and organization. The DEMATEL-ISM approach is introduced to conduct the factor analysis, and a questionnaire survey is conducted among 10 experts to investigate their attitudes on these factors. Following the proposed method, the 17 factors are classified into seven hierarchies and further categorized into three layers, i.e., effect layer, operational layer, and input layer, which helps to demonstrate the interrelationship among the critical factors for SCS development. The effect layer consists of the first to the third hierarchy, which contains the factors of cost (F2), safety (F4), schedule (F5), environment (F9), and quality (F3) management; these factors belong to the management perspective and reflect the expectations during SCS development. The operational layer consists of the fourth to the sixth hierarchy, which contains seven factors, namely, processing (F8), information (F10), communication and coordination (F15), personnel (F5), material (F6), equipment (F7), and management regulation (F17); these factors are critical in processing the input resources into the final effect of SCS development. The input layer only consists of the seventh hierarchy, which contains hardware and software facility (F11), integrated platform (F12), data sharing center (F13), smart decision system (F14), and technical team (F16); these factors represent the investment of SCS development. The systematic analysis of critical factors provides new insights on SCS development, which could be adopted as references for future SCS development by all stakeholders like government and construction enterprises.

Abstract:Strengthening supply chain management has become an effective way to improve the competitiveness of enterprises. Supply chain management, as a kind of brand-new management idea, emphasizes that each node enterprise, on the basis of their own core competitiveness, establish strategic cooperative partnership with other enterprises. In the supply chain management, supplier evaluation and selection is the foundation of the supplier cooperative relationship establishment. Therefore, the primary task of supply chain management is to choose the right supplier. This paper constructs a supplier evaluation index system from four aspects such as customer satisfaction, enterprise operating condition, the financial condition of enterprise and enterprise development prospect, using principal component analysis for the index system application. This supplier evaluation index system is of guiding significance in the choice of supplier.

Abstract:In hydropower construction projects,the model of supply chain management is attracting more attention and more application.This paper investigated into 8 hydropower construction projects and recognized the supply chain management factors of the projects.To reveal the underlying principle,these data were used to analyze qualitatively and quantitatively the influence of these factors on logistics performance index and to examine their mutual correlation.The factors are sorted as: cognition of supply chain management,technology of information communication,ability of remedy change management,quality of information communication,knowledge summarizing and sharing,and information communication.Cognition of supply chain management is shown to be the core factor.

Abstract:Purpose Sustainability is of growing significance in the contemporary business landscape as organizations strive to minimize their environmental impact and optimize supply chain (SC) operations. Gaining insights into the influence of Triple A SC practices on sustainable performance can offer valuable perspectives for practitioners and policymakers. This study aims to comprehensively review existing academic literature on Triple A supply chain management (SCM) and sustainability, examining its impact on sustainable performance while identifying key influencing factors. Design/methodology/approach This review follows the six steps and 14 decisions of conducting a systematic literature review to comprehensively review 57 papers published between 2004 and 2023. Findings Based on the content analysis of the selected papers, this study summarizes the antecedents, practices and outcomes of Triple A SCM, with a particular focus on its implications for sustainability. This paper builds a conceptual framework from the descriptive and thematic findings to enrich the relevant aspects of Triple A SCM. Originality/value This study establishes a connection between Triple A SCM and sustainable performance by examining its impact on economic, social and environmental aspects. This review identifies research gaps and acknowledges the lack of specificity in implementing Triple A SCM across diverse industries, regions and competitive markets with varying external environments. It emphasizes the necessity to customize approaches based on contextual factors and provides valuable recommendations for future research to advance the concept of Triple A SCM.
