Abstract:Abstract We generalize a Theorem of Ricci and count Gaussian primes $\mathfrak{p}$ with short interval restrictions on both the norm and the argument of $\mathfrak{p}$. We follow Heath-Brown’s method for counting rational primes in short intervals.

Abstract:We show that almost all sectors of the disc $\{z \in \mathbb{C}: |z|^2\leq X\}$ of area $(\log X)^{15.1}$ contain products of exactly two Gaussian primes, and that almost all sectors of area $(\log X)^{1 + \varepsilon}$ contain products of exactly three Gaussian primes. The argument is based on mean value theorems, large value estimates and pointwise bounds for Hecke character sums.

Abstract:In this paper we create a definition for prime gaps in the Gaussian integers using a boxcar metric. From this we used numerical methods to derive an asymptotic upper bound for the gaps in this scenario, namely O(log^2|p_{n}|).

Abstract:Let K be a finite Galois extension of <math>Q</math>. We count primes in short intervals represented by the norm of a prime ideal of K satisfying a small sector condition determined by Hecke characters. We also show that such primes are well-distributed in arithmetic progressions in the sense of Bombieri-Vinogradov. This extends previous work of Duke and Coleman.

On Gaussian primes in sparse sets

Abstract:We show that there exists some $\delta > 0$ such that, for any set of integers $B$ with $B\cap[1,Y]\gg Y^{1-\delta}$ for all $Y \gg 1$, there are infinitely many primes of the form $a^2+b^2$ with $b\in B$. We prove a quasi-explicit formula for the number of primes of the form $a^2+b^2 \leq X$ with $b \in B$ for any $|B|=X^{1/2-\delta}$ with $\delta < 1/10$ and $B \subseteq [\eta X^{1/2},(1-\eta)X^{1/2}] \cap \mathbb{Z}$, in terms of zeros of Hecke $L$-functions on $\mathbb{Q}(i)$. We obtain the expected asymptotic formula for the number of such primes provided that the set $B$ does not have a large subset which consists of multiples of a fixed large integer. In particular, we get an asymptotic formula if $B$ is a sparse subset of primes. For an arbitrary $B$ we obtain a lower bound for the number of primes with a weaker range for $\delta$, by bounding the contribution from potential exceptional characters.

Abstract:We derive a refined conjecture for the variance of Gaussian primes across sectors, with a power saving error term, by applying the L-functions Ratios Conjecture. We observe a bifurcation point in the main term, consistent with the Random Matrix Theory (RMT) heuristic previously proposed by Rudnick and Waxman. Our model also identifies a second bifurcation point, undetected by the RMT model, that emerges upon taking into account lower order terms. For sufficiently small sectors, we moreover prove an unconditional result that is consistent with our conjecture down to lower order terms.

Abstract:Suppose that $n$ is $0$ or $4$ modulo $6$. We show that there are infinitely many primes of the form $p^2 + nq^2$ with both $p$ and $q$ prime, and obtain an asymptotic for their number. In particular, when $n = 4$ we verify the `Gaussian primes conjecture' of Friedlander and Iwaniec. We study the problem using the method of Type I/II sums in the number field $\mathbf{Q}(\sqrt{-n})$. The main innovation is in the treatment of the Type II sums, where we make heavy use of two recent developments in the theory of Gowers norms in additive combinatorics: quantitative versions of so-called concatenation theorems, due to Kuca and to Kuca--Kravitz-Leng, and the quasipolynomial inverse theorem of Leng, Sah and the second author.

Abstract:The Gaussian Moat problem asks whether one can walk to infinity in the Gaussian integers using the Gaussian primes as stepping stones and taking bounded length steps or not. In this paper, we have analyzed the Gaussian primes and also developed an algorithm to find the primes on the $\mathbb{R}^2$ plane which will help us to calculate the moat for higher value. We have also reduced a lot of computation with this algorithm to find the Gaussian prime though their distribution on the $\mathbb{R}^2$ plane is not so regular. A moat of value $\sqrt{26}$ is already an existing result done by Genther <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://et.al" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>. The focus of the problem is to show that primes are getting lesser as we are approaching infinity. We have shown this result with the help of our algorithm. We have calculated the moat and also calculated the time complexity of our algorithm and compared it with Genther-Wagon-Wick's algorithm. As a new ingredient, we have defined the notion of primality for the plane $\mathbb{R}^3$ and proposed a problem on it.

Abstract:The Gaussian moat problem asks whether it is possible to find an infinite sequence of distinct Gaussian prime numbers such that the difference between consecutive numbers in the sequence is bounded. In this paper, we have proved that the answer is `No', that is an infinite sequence of distinct Gaussian prime numbers can not be bounded by an absolute constant, for the Gaussian primes $p=a^2+b^2$ with $a,b\neq0$. We consider each prime $(a,b)$ as a lattice point on the complex plane and use their properties to prove the main result.

Abstract:We generalize the classical Bombieri-Vinogradov theorem to a short interval, non-abelian setting. This leads to variants of the prime number theorem for short intervals where the primes lie in arithmetic progressions that are "twisted" by a splitting condition in a Galois extension $L/K$ of number fields. Using this result in conjunction with recent work of Maynard, we prove that rational primes in short intervals with a given splitting condition in a Galois extension $L/\mathbb{Q}$ exhibit dense clusters in short intervals. We explore several arithmetic applications related to questions of Serre regarding the nonvanishing Fourier coefficients of cuspidal modular forms, including finding dense clusters of fundamental discriminants $ d $ in short intervals for which the central values of $d$-quadratic twists of modular $L$-functions are non-vanishing.

Abstract:The structure of the group (ℤ/nℤ)* and Fermat’s little theorem are the basis for some of the best-known primality testing algorithms. Many related concepts arise: Euler’s totient function and Carmichael’s lambda function, Fermat pseudoprimes, Carmichael and cyclic numbers, Lehmer’s totient problem, Giuga’s conjecture, etc. In this paper, we present and study analogues to some of the previous concepts arising when we consider the underlying group Gn:= {a + bi ∈ ℤ[i]/nℤ[i]: a2 + b2 ≡ 1 (mod n)}. In particular, we characterize Gaussian Carmichael numbers via a Korselt’s criterion and present their relation with Gaussian cyclic numbers. Finally, we present the relation between Gaussian Carmichael number and 1-Williams numbers for numbers n ≡ 3 (mod 4). There are also no known composite numbers less than 1018 in this family that are both pseudoprime to base 1 + 2i and 2-pseudoprime.

Abstract:In a recent joint work with D.A. Goldston and C.Y. Yildirim we just missed by a hairbreadth a proof that bounded gaps between primes occur infinitely often. In the present work it is shown that adding to the primes a much thinner set, called almost prime powers, the union of the set of primes and almost prime powers contains already infinitely many bounded gaps. More precisely it is shown that if we add to the set of primes either almost prime squares having exactly two, nearly equal prime factors or if we add to the set of primes almost prime cubes having exactly three, nearly equal prime factors, then the resulting set contains already infinitely many bounded gaps.

Abstract:Some mean value theorems in the style of Bombieri-Vinogradov's theorem are discussed. They concern binary and ternary additive problems with primes in arithmetic progressions and short intervals. Nontrivial estimates for some of these mean values are given. As application inter alia, we show that for large odd n\not\equiv 1 (6), Goldbach's ternary problem n=p_1+p_2+p_3 is solvable with primes p_1,p_2 in short intervals p_i \in [X_i,X_i+Y] with X_{i}^{\theta_i}=Y, i=1,2, and \theta_1,\theta_2\geq 0.933 such that (p_1+2)(p_2+2) has at most 9 prime factors.

Abstract:Assuming the Riemann hypothesis (RH) and the linear independence conjecture (LI), we show that the weighted count of primes in multiple disjoint short intervals has a multivariate Gaussian logarithmic limiting distribution with weak negative correlation. As a consequence, we derive short-interval counterparts for many important works in the literature of the Shanks-Rényi prime number race, including the sharp phase transition from all races being asymptotically unbiased to the existence of biased races. Our result remains novel, even for primes in a single moving interval, especially under a quantitative formulation of the linear independence conjecture (QLI).

Both results are uniform in the data of the underlying structure. Our approach is based mainly on the inertia property of the counting functions of primes and prime ideals.

Abstract:We show the primes have level of distribution $66/107\approx 0.617$ using triply well-factorable weights. This gives the highest level of distribution for primes in any setting, improving on the prior record level $3/5=0.60$ of Maynard. We also extend this level to $5/8=0.625$, assuming Selberg's eigenvalue conjecture. As applications of the method, we obtain new upper bounds for twin primes and for Goldbach representations of even numbers $a$. For the Goldbach problem, this is the first use of a level of distribution beyond the square-root barrier, and leads to the greatest improvement on the problem since Bombieri-Davenport from 1966. Our proof optimizes the Deshouillers-Iwaniec spectral large sieve estimates, both in the exceptional spectrum and uniformity in the residue $a$, refining Drappeau-Pratt-Radziwill and Assing-Blomer-Li.

Density formulas for $p$-adically bounded primes for hypergeometric series with rational and quadratic irrational parameters

Abstract:We study densities of $p$-adically bounded primes for hypergeometric series in two cases: the case of generalized hypergeometric series with rational parameters, and the case of $_2F_1$ with parameters in a quadratic extension of the rational numbers. In the rational case we extend work from $_2F_1$ to $_nF_{n-1}$ for an exact formula giving the density of bounded primes for the series. The density is shown to be one exactly in accordance with the case of finite monodromy as classified by Beukers-Heckmann. In the quadratic irrational case, we obtain an unconditional lower bound on the density of bounded primes. Assuming the normality of the $p$-adic digits of quadratic irrationalities, this lower bound is shown to be an exact formula for the density of bounded primes. In the quadratic irrational case, there is a trivial upper bound of $1/2$ on the density of bounded primes. In the final section of the paper we discuss some results and computations on series that attain this bound. In particular, all such examples we have found are associated to imaginary quadratic fields, though we do not prove this is always the case.

Abstract:1. Introduction. Many problems involving prime numbers depend on estimating sums of the form ΣΛ( n ) f ( n ), for appropriate functions f ( n ), (here, as usual, Λ( n ) is the von Mangoldt function). Three distinct general methods have been used to estimate such sums. The earliest is due to Vinogradov (see [ 13 , Chapter 9]); the second involves zerodensity bounds for Dirichlet L –functions (see [ 8 , Chapters 15 and 16] for example); and the third, due to Vaughan (see [ 12 ] for example) uses an arithmetical identity as will be explained later. The second and third methods are much simpler to apply than the first. On the other hand Vinogradov's technique is at least as powerful as Vaughan's and occasionally more so. In many cases Vaughan's identity yields better bounds than the use of zero–density estimates, but sometimes they are worse. The object of this paper is to present a simple extension of Vaughan's method which is essentially as powerful as any of the techniques mentioned above, to discuss its general implications, and to apply it to the proof of the following result of Huxley [ 4 ], which has previously only been within the scope of the zero density method.
