Abstract:In this article, we first prove that the pseudo-homogeneity and quasi-homogeneity are equivalent for overlap and grouping functions, and then give representations of a given pseudo-homogeneous overlap and grouping functions in terms of the single-argument functions induced by the given overlap and grouping functions, respectively. We finally introduce the concept of a pseudo-homogeneous generator pair of overlap function which is applied to construct an overlap function.

Abstract:Overlap functions are an important class of aggregation operators on [0,1] that have been proposed for applications in image processing, classification, etc. Later, Paiva et al. lifted overlap functions on [0,1] to complete lattices. In this paper, we continue to study overlap functions on bounded posets so as to lift the continuity in the notion of overlap functions from [0,1] to bounded posets mainly from the topological aspects. More precisely, we introduce the notion of overlap functions on bounded posets. And then, we consider the multiplicative generator triples of overlap functions on bounded posets, and investigate constructions of overlap functions by multiplicative generator triples.

Abstract:In this article, we first give a positive answer to an open problem raised by Dimuro et al. in “On additive generators of overlap functions” (Dimuro et al., 2016 [5]) by constructing an example. Then we present three necessary and sufficient conditions under which an overlap function can be obtained by a ( F , T ) -distortion, for a positive and continuous t-norm T and a (pseudo) automorphism F .

Discrete Pseudo-Quasi Overlap Functions and Their Applications in Fuzzy Multi-Attribute Group Decision-Making

Abstract:The overlap function, a continuous aggregation function, is widely used in classification, decision-making, image processing, etc. Compared to applications, overlap functions have also achieved fruitful results in theory, such as studies on the fundamental properties of overlap functions, various generalizations of the concept, and the construction of additive and multiplicative generators based on overlap functions. However, most of the research studies on the overlap functions mentioned above assume commutativity and continuity, which can limit their practical applications. In this paper, we remove the symmetry and continuity from overlap functions and define discrete pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on finite chains. Meanwhile, we also discuss their related properties. Then, we introduce pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on sub-chains and construct discrete pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on finite chains using these sub-chain functions. Unlike quasi-overlap functions on finite chains generated by the ordinal sum, discrete pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on finite chains constructed through pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on different sub-chains are dissimilar. Eventually, we remove the continuity from pseudo-automorphisms and propose the concept of pseudo-quasi-automorphisms. Based on this, we utilize pseudo-overlap functions, pseudo-quasi-automorphisms, and integral functions to obtain discrete pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on finite chains; moreover, we apply them to fuzzy multi-attribute group decision-making. The results indicate that—compared to overlap functions and pseudo-overlap functions—discrete pseudo-quasi-overlap functions on finite chains have stronger flexibility and a wider range of practical applications.

Abstract:Recently, some authors studied the distributive laws of continuous t-norms and some families of the common classes of uninorms over overlap and grouping functions in [33], [41], but until now a complete characterization of the distributivity on idempotent uninorms over overlap or grouping functions widely used in image processing is still unresolved. Moreover, authors in [55] characterized the distributivity equations of uni-nullnorms with continuous Archimedean underlying operators over the above two functions. In this paper, we proceed with the distributivity characterization of idempotent uni-nullnorms over them which obviously generalizes the corresponding results of idempotent uninorms over these two functions. During the process, we introduce a class of weak overlap and grouping functions with weak coefficients, and obtain the full characterizations of the above functions by considering the different values of the underlying uninorms' associated functions of idempotent uni-nullnorms on the interval endpoints and comparing the values with the weak coefficients. These obtained results totally answer the question on the distributive solutions of idempotent uninorms over overlap functions, which have been mentioned as their future works in [33]. In additions, we also obtain that overlap and grouping functions have particular structures with a constant domain where its value equals to the neutral element of the idempotent uninorm when they are distributive over idempotent uninorms.

Abstract:By employing the (de)homogenization technique in a relatively extensive setting, this note studies in detail the relation between non-homogeneous Gröbner bases and homogeneous Gröbner bases. As a consequence, a general principle of computing Gröbner bases (for an ideal and its homogenization ideal) by passing to homogenized generators is clarified systematically. The obtained results improve and strengthen the work of [LWZ], [Li1], [Li2], [Li3], and very recent [SL] concerning the same topic.

Let $K$ be the attractor of the IFS $\{f_1(x)=\lambda x, f_2(x)=\lambda x+c-\lambda,f_3(x)=\lambda x+1-\lambda\}$, where $f_1(I)\cap f_2(I)\neq \emptyset, (f_1(I)\cup f_2(I))\cap f_3(I)=\emptyset,$ and $I=[0,1]$ is the convex hull of $K$. The main result of this paper is $K\cdot K=[0,1]$ if and only if $(1-\lambda)^2\leq c$. Equivalently, we give a necessary and sufficient condition such that for any $u\in[0,1]$, $u=x\cdot y$, where $x,y\in K$.

We also give further details on related work reported in [Deborah Lockett and John K Truss, Generic endomorphisms of homogeneous structures, in 'Groups and model theory', Contemporary Mathematics 576, ed Strungmann, Droste, Fuchs, Tent, American Mathematical Society, 2012, 217-237] about the endomorphisms of chains and generic endomorphisms of tree.

Abstract:A random vector whose norm and overlap (inner product with an independent copy) concentrates is shown to have random low-dimensional projections that are approximately random Gaussians. Conversely, asymptotically random Gaussian projections imply these hypotheses. This extends and unites several existing results in geometric functional analysis and spin glasses. Applications include a large-system characterization of the joint law of cavity fields in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model.

Abstract:Our results revolve around a new operation on partitions, which we call overlap. We prove two overlap identities for so-called Littlewood-Schur functions. Littlewood-Schur functions are a generalization of Schur functions, whose study was introduced by Littlewood. More concretely, the Littlewood-Schur function $LS_\lambda(X; Y)$ indexed by the partition $\lambda$ is a polynomial in the variables $X \cup Y$ that is symmetric in both $X$ and $Y$ separately. The first overlap identity represents $LS _\lambda(X; Y)$ as a sum over subsets of $X$, while the second overlap identity essentially represents $LS_\lambda(X; Y)$ as a sum over pairs of partitions whose overlap equals $\lambda$. Both identities are derived by applying Laplace expansion to a determinantal formula for Littlewood-Schur functions due to Moens and Van der Jeugt. In addition, we give two visual characterizations for the set of all pairs of partitions whose overlap is equal to a partition $\lambda$.

Abstract:Permutation polynomials over finite fields have been extensively studied not only for their applications in cryptography, but have also been applied to coding theory and combinatorial design theory. Recently, a new theoretical tool, the Boomerang Connectivity Table (BCT) and the corresponding boomerang uniformity were introduced to evaluate the resistance of a block cipher against boomerang attacks. Inspired by a multiplier differential, Stănică [Investigations on c -boomerang uniformity and perfect nonlinearity, Discret. Appl. Math., 2021] extended the concept of boomerang uniformity to c -boomerang uniformity. In this paper, we investigate two classes of permutation polynomials over with respect to this new concept. We show that these permutations are 1-uniform c -BCT functions.

Abstract:Universal cycles are generalizations of de Bruijn cycles and Gray codes that were introduced originally by Chung, Diaconis, and Graham in 1992. They have been developed by many authors since, for various combinatorial objects such as strings, subsets, permutations, partitions, vector spaces, and designs. One generalization of universal cycles, which require almost complete overlap of consecutive words, is $s$-overlap cycles, which relax such a constraint. In this paper we study permutations and some closely related class of strings, namely juggling sequences and functions. We prove the existence of $s$-overlap cycles for these objects, as they do not always lend themselves to the universal cycle structure.
