Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact, geodesically complete, locally CAT(0) space such that the universal cover admits a rank one axis. We prove the Bowen-Margulis measure on the space of geodesics is the unique measure of maximal entropy for the geodesic flow, which has topological entropy equal to the critical exponent of the Poincaré series.

A Complex Geometric Approach to the Discrete Gabor Transform and Localization Operators on the Flat Torus

Abstract:In a recent paper, the discrete Gabor transform was connected to a Gabor transform with a time frequency domain given by the flat torus. We show that the corresponding Bargmann spaces can be expressed as theta line bundles on Abelian varieties. We give applications of this viewpoint to frame results for the discrete Gabor transform. In particular, we get results which hold in higher dimension. We also give an application to asymptotics of restriction operators which arises from the asymptotic behavior of Bergman kernels for high tensor powers.

Abstract:A toroidal set is a compactum $K \subseteq \mathbb{R}^3$ which has a neighbourhood basis of solid tori. We study the topological entropy of toroidal attractors $K$, bounding it from below in terms of purely topological properties of $K$. In particular, we show that for a toroidal set $K$, either any smooth attracting dynamics on $K$ has an entropy at least $\log 2$, or (up to continuation) $K$ admits smooth attracting dynamics which are stationary (hence with a zero entropy).

Abstract:The Clifford 2-torus in and the equlaterial 2-torus in are known as the only minimal immersions of 2-tori into spheres by the first eigenfunctions (called -minimal for short). For , the Clifford n -torus in might be the only known example of -minimal n -tori in the literature. By discussing the general construction of homogeneous minimal flat n -tori in spheres, we construct several new examples of -minimal flat 3-tori and 4-tori. In particular, the existence of 2-parameter family of non-congruent -minimal flat 4-tori is shown for the first time. We obtain the complete classification for -minimal immersions of conformally flat 3-tori and 4-tori in spheres, by some detailed investigations of shortest vectors in lattices, which could be of independent interests. Using them, we also solve the Berger's problem (finding the maximal value of the dilation-invariant functional ) among all flat 3-tori and 4-tori.

Abstract:We show that, given a real or complex hyperbolic metric $g_0$ on a closed manifold $M$ of dimension $n\geq 3$, there exists a neighborhood $\mathcal U$ of $g_0$ in the space of negatively curved metrics such that for any $g\in \mathcal U$, the topological entropy and Liouville entropy of $g$ coincide if and only if $g$ and $g_0$ are homothetic. This provides a partial answer to Katok's entropy rigidity conjecture. As a direct consequence of our theorem, we obtain a local rigidity result of the hyperbolic rank near complex hyperbolic metrics.

Abstract:We analyze the equilibrium space of an ideal gas using the formalism of geometrothermodynamics. We introduce the concept of thermodynamic geodesics to show that the equilibrium space around a particular initial state can be divided into two regions, one that can be reached using thermodynamic geodesics and the second one forbidden by the second law of thermodynamics. Moreover, we show that, along thermodynamic geodesics, entropy is a linear function of the affine parameter, indicating that it can be used as a time parameter with a particular arrow of time determined by the direction in which entropy increases. We argue that entropy can also be interpreted locally as time in the case of any thermodynamic system in equilibrium and systems described within the scope of linear non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

Abstract:We present a new methodology for the characterization of the metric entropy of infinite-dimensional ellipsoids with exponentially decaying semi-axes. This procedure does not rely on the explicit construction of coverings or packings and provides a unified framework for the derivation of the metric entropy of a wide variety of analytic function classes, such as periodic functions analytic on a strip, analytic functions bounded on a disk, and functions of exponential type. In each of these cases, our results improve upon the best known results in the literature.

Abstract:We construct a one-dimensional dual theory that effectively describes the sector of the (2+1)D flat gravity phase space near a Flat Space Cosmology (FSC) saddle labeled by definite mass and angular momentum. This Schwarzian type action describes the dynamics of the (Pseudo-) Goldstone Bosons of BMS$_3$ algebra on a circle as the symmetry is spontaneously and anomalously broken. This 1D theory, living on the celestial circle, provides an explicit construction of a celestial dual in (2+1)D. We use it to calculate the semiclassical entropy of Flat Space Cosmologies and find perfect agreement with existing literature.

Abstract:In this article we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of geodesic directions that are recurrent and diverge on average coincides with the entropy at infinity of the geodesic flow for any complete, pinched negatively curved Riemannian manifold. We derive an interesting consequence from this result, we prove that the entropy of a {\sigma}-finite, ergodic and conservative infinite invariant measure is bounded from above by the entropy at infinity of the geodesic flow.

Abstract:Katok [Lyapunov exponents, entropy and periodic points of diffeomorphisms. Publ. Math. Inst. Hautes Études Sci. 51 (1980), 137–173] conjectured that every $C^{2}$ diffeomorphism f on a Riemannian manifold has the intermediate entropy property, that is, for any constant $c \in [0, h_{\mathrm {top}}(f))$ , there exists an ergodic measure $\mu $ of f satisfying $h_{\mu }(f)=c$ . In this paper, we obtain a conditional intermediate metric entropy property and two conditional intermediate Birkhoff average properties for basic sets of flows that characterize the refined roles of ergodic measures in the invariant ones. In this process, we establish a ‘multi-horseshoe’ entropy-dense property and use it to get the goal combined with conditional variational principles. We also obtain the same result for singular hyperbolic attractors.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain several new characterizations of the Clifford torus as a Lagrangian self-shrinker. We first show that the Clifford torus ${\mathbb {S}}^1(1)\times {\mathbb {S}}^1(1)$ is the unique compact orientable Lagrangian self-shrinker in ${\mathbb {C}}^2$ with $|A|^2\le 2$, which gives an affirmative answer to Castro–Lerma’s conjecture in Castro and Lerma (Int Math Res Not 6:1515–1527; 2014). We also prove that the Clifford torus is the unique compact orientable embedded Lagrangian self-shrinker with nonnegative or nonpositive Gauss curvature in ${\mathbb {C}}^2$.

Abstract:We prove that, for a C 2 non-invertible but non-degenerate map on a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary, an invariant measure satisfies an equality relating entropy, folding entropy and negative Lyapunov exponents. Abstract:Let Ψ be the geodesic flow associated with a two-sided invariant metric on a compact Lie group. In this paper, we prove that every ergodic measure µ of Ψ is supported on the unit tangent bundle of a flat torus. As an application, all Lyapunov exponents of µ are zero hence µ is not hyperbolic. Our underlying manifolds have nonnegative curvature (possibly strictly positive on some sections), whereas in contrast, all geodesic flows related to negative curvature are Anosov hence every ergodic measure is hyperbolic.

Abstract:For a static time slice of AdS$_3$ we describe a particular class of minimal surfaces which form trivalent networks of geodesics. Through geometric arguments we provide evidence that these surfaces describe a measure of multipartite entanglement. By relating these surfaces to Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces it can be shown that this multipartite contribution is related to the angles of intersection of the bulk geodesics.

Abstract:We study the topological entropy of the Lagrangian flow restricted to an energy level $E_{L}^{-1}(c) \subset TM$ for $ c >e_0(L)$. We prove that if the flow of the Tonelli Lagrangian $ L: M \to \mathbb{R}$, on a closed manifold of dimension $ n+1$, has a non-hyperbolic closed orbit or an infinite number of closed orbits with energy $ c>e_0(L)$ and satisfies certain open dense conditions, then there exist a smooth potential $ u: M\to \mathbb{R} $, with $ C^2$-norm arbitrarily small, such that the flow of the perturbed Lagrangian $ L_u=L-u$ restricted to $E_{L_u}^{-1}(c)$ has positive topological entropy. The proof of this result is based on an analog version of the Franks' Lemma for Lagrangian flows and Mañé's techniques on dominated splitting. As an application, we show that if $\dim (M)=2$ and $c > e_0(L)$, then $ L$ admits a $C^2$-perturbation by a smooth potential $u$, such that, the perturbed flow $\phi_t^{L_u}\big{|}_{E_{L_u}^{-1}(c)}$ has positive topological entropy.

Abstract:Motivated by the potential connection between metric-affine gravity and linear Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) in the phase space, we develop a covariant form of linear GUP and an associated modified Poincaré algebra, which exhibits distinctive behavior, nearing nullity at the minimal length scale proposed by linear GUP. We use 3-torus geometry to visually represent linear GUP within a covariant framework. The 3-torus area provides an exact geometric representation of Bekenstein's universal bound. We depart from Bousso's approach, which adapts Bekenstein's bound by substituting the Schwarzschild radius ($r_s$) with the radius ($R$) of the smallest sphere enclosing the physical system, thereby basing the covariant entropy bound on the sphere's area. Instead, our revised covariant entropy bound is described by the area of a 3-torus, determined by both the inner radius $r_s$ and outer radius $R$ where $r_s\leq R $ due to gravitational stability. This approach results in a more precise geometric representation of Bekenstein's bound, notably for larger systems where Bousso's bound is typically much larger than Bekensetin's universal bound. Furthermore, we derive an equation that turns the standard uncertainty inequality into an equation when considering the contribution of the 3-torus covariant entropy bound, suggesting a new avenue of quantum gravity.
