Abstract:A broom is a tree obtained by identifying an endpoint of a path with the center of a star. Let G be a connected graph of order n ≥ 3. Chen et al. [2] conjectured that if the degree sum is at least n − 2 for any three pairwise nonadjacent vertices, then G contains a spanning broom. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture for n > 50.

Abstract:Let A be a set of connected graphs. Then a spanning subgraph A of G is called an A-factor if each component of A is isomorphic to some member of A. Especially, when every graph in A is a path, A is a path factor. For a positive integer d ≥ 2, we write P≥d = {Pi|i ≥ d}. Then a P≥d-factor means a path factor in which every component admits at least d vertices. A graph G is called a (P≥d,m)-factor deleted graph if G – E′ admits a P≥d-factor for any E′ ⊆ E(G) with |E′| = m. A graph G is called a (P≥d, k)-factor critical graph if G – Q has a P≥d-factor for any Q ⊆ V (G) with |Q| = k. In this paper, we present two degree conditions for graphs to be (P≥3,m)-factor deleted graphs and (P≥3, k)-factor critical graphs. Furthermore, we show that the two results are best possible in some sense.

Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:For a vertex subset $X$ of a graph $G$, let $\Delta_{t}(X)$ be the maximum value of the degree sums of the subsets of $X$ of size $t$. In this paper, we prove the following result: Let $k$ be a positive integer, and let $G$ be an $m$-connected graph of order $n \ge 5k - 2$. If $\Delta_{2}(X) \ge n$ for every independent set $X$ of size $\lceil m/k \rceil+1$ in $G$, then $G$ has a 2-factor with exactly $k$ cycles. This is a common generalization of the results obtained by Brandt et al. [Degree conditions for 2-factors, J. Graph Theory 24 (1997) 165-173] and Yamashita [On degree sum conditions for long cycles and cycles through specified vertices, Discrete Math. 308 (2008) 6584-6587], respectively.

Abstract:An edge-colored graph G is called properly connected if any two vertices are connected by a properly colored path. The proper connection number of a graph G, denoted by p c ( G ), is the smallest number of colors that are needed to color G such that it is properly connected. A separating vertex of G is bad if it is contained in at least three blocks, each of which contains at most three vertices. Let G be a graph of order n without bad vertices. In this paper, we show that if the degree sums of any three nonadjacent vertices of a graph G is at least 3 n / 4 and n > 48, then p c ( G ) = 2, which generalizes the results due to Borozan et al. (2012) and Chang et al. (2019).

Abstract:Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices with degree sequence $(d_1,d_2......d_n)$. For a real $p \geq 1$, let $D_p(G)=\sum_{i=1}^nd_i^p$. A Turán-type problem of degree power sum was initiated by Caro and Yuster \cite{caro2000degpower}: determining the function $D_p(n,H) :=\max \{D_p(G): \text{$G$ is an $n$-vertex $H$-free graph}\}$. They obtained some exact values for certain graphs $H$. For a path $P_k$, they mentioned that ``a close examination of the proof of Theorem 1.2 shows that the value of $n_0(k)$ in the statement of the theorem is $O(k^2)$", namely, they could show the $n$-vertex $P_k$-free graph with maximum degree power sum is $W_{n,k-1,\lfloor \frac{k}{2} \rfloor -1} = K_{\lfloor \frac{k}{2} \rfloor -1} \vee \left((n - \lceil \frac{k}{2} \rceil)K_1 \cup K_{1+k-2\lfloor \frac{k}{2} \rfloor} \right)$ when $n \geq c k^2$ for some constant $c$. In this note, we improve their result to a linear size of $k$ by a different approach. The bound is tight up to a constant factor.

Abstract:Win proved a very famous conclusion that states the graph G with connectivity ? (G), independence number a (G) and a (G) = ?(G) + k - 1 (k = 2) contains a spanning k-ended tree. This means that there exists a spanning tree with at most k leaves. In this paper, we strengthen the Win theorem to the following: Let G be a simple 2-connected graph such that |V(G) | = 2? (G) + k, a (G) = ?(G) + k (k = 2) and the number of maximum independent sets of cardinality ? + k is at most n - 2? - k + 1. Then, either G contains a spanning k-ended tree or a subgraph of K-? Abstract:Let G a graph of order n, and k >= 1 an integer. Let h: E(G) -> [0,1] be a function. If Sigma(e epsilon x)h(e) = k holds for each x is an element of V(G), we call G[F-h] a fractional k-factor of G with indicator functional h where F-h = {e is an element of E(G) : h(e) > 0}. In this paper, it is proved that G has a fractional k-factor including any given edge if G satisfies n >= 4k - 3, delta(G) >= k and and d(G)(x)+d(G)(y) >= n+ 1 for each pair of nonadjacent vertices x, y of G. Furthermore, it is showed that the result in this paper is best possible in some sense.

Abstract:In 2014, some scholars showed that every 2-connected claw-free graph G with independence number α(G)≤3 is Hamiltonian with one exception of family of graphs. If a nontrivial path contains only internal vertices of degree two and end vertices of degree not two, then we call it a branch. A set S of branches of a graph G is called a branch cut if we delete all edges and internal vertices of branches of S leading to more components than G. We use a branch bond to denote a minimal branch cut. If a branch-bond has an odd number of branches, then it is called odd. In this paper, we shall characterize all 2-connected claw-free graphs G such that every odd branch-bond of G has an edge branch and such that α(G)≤5 but has no 2-factor. We also consider the same problem for those 2-edge-connected claw-free graphs with α(G)≤4.

Abstract:Let $G$ denote a graph and $k\geq2$ be an integer. A $\{K_{1,1},K_{1,2},\ldots,K_{1,k},\mathcal{T}(2k+1)\}$-factor of $G$ is a spanning subgraph, whose every connected component is isomorphic to an element of $\{K_{1,1},K_{1,2},\ldots,K_{1,k},\mathcal{T}(2k+1)\}$, where $\mathcal{T}(2k+1)$ is one special family of tree. In this paper, we put forward some sufficient conditions for the existence of $\{K_{1,1},K_{1,2},\ldots,K_{1,k},\mathcal{T}(2k+1)\}$-factors in graphs. Furthermore, we construct some extremal graphs to show that the main results in this paper are best possible.

Abstract:A spanning subgraph $F$ of $G$ is called a path factor if every component of $F$ is a path of order at least 2. Let $k\geq2$ be an integer. A $P_{\geq k}$-factor of $G$ means a path factor in which every component has at least $k$ vertices. A graph $G$ is called a $P_{\geq k}$-factor avoidable graph if for any $e\in E(G)$, $G$ has a $P_{\geq k}$-factor avoiding $e$. A graph $G$ is called a $(P_{\geq k},n)$-factor critical avoidable graph if for any $W\subseteq V(G)$ with $|W|=n$, $G-W$ is a $P_{\geq k}$-factor avoidable graph. Abstract:For integers $k,n$ with $1 \le k \le n/2$, let $f(k,n)$ be the smallest integer $t$ such that every $t$-connected $n$-vertex graph has a spanning bipartite $k$-connected subgraph. A conjecture of Thomassen asserts that $f(k,n)$ is upper bounded by some function of $k$. The best upper bound for $f(k,n)$ is by Delcourt and Ferber who proved that $f(k,n) \le 10^{10}k^3 \log n$. Here it is proved that $f(k,n) \le 22k^2 \log n$. For larger $k$, stronger bounds hold. In the linear regime, it is proved that for any $0 < c < \frac{1}{2}$ and all sufficiently large $n$, $f(\lfloor cn \rfloor, n) \le 30\sqrt{c}n$. In the polynomial regime, it is proved that for any $\frac{1}{3} \le \alpha < 1$ and all sufficiently large $n$, $f(\lfloor n^\alpha \rfloor ,n) \le 9n^{(1+\alpha)/2}$.

Abstract:For a graph G of order n and an integer k with , let denote the minimum number of edges spanned by k vertices and call the sparse sequence of G . In 2022, Katona proposed a problem: Can we find necessary and sufficient conditions for a function f ( k ) under which a graph G exists such that ? In this paper, we solve this problem partly and give a sufficient condition for a sequence to be the sparse sequences of a general graph and a tree, respectively. For any tree T and , we show that . Finally, we introduce the subgraph-size polynomial of a graph and establish a recursive relation for graphs with a cut edge, based on which we give a recursive algorithm for determining the sparse sequences of a tree and obtain the subgraph-size polynomial of spider graphs.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a bipartite graph with bipartition $(X,Y)$, let $k$ be a positive integer, and let $f:V(G)\rightarrow \{-1,\ldots, k-2\}$ be a mapping with $\sum_{v\in X}f(v) \stackrel{k}{\equiv}\sum_{v\in Y}f(v)$. In this paper, we show that if $G$ is essentially $(3k-3)$-edge-connected and for each vertex $v$, $d_G(v)\ge 2k-1+f(v)$, then it admits a factor $H$ such that for each vertex $v$, $d_H(v)\stackrel{k}{\equiv} f(v)$, and $$\lfloor\frac{d_G(v)}{2}\rfloor-(k-1)\le d_{H}(v)\le \lceil\frac{d_G(v)}{2}\rceil+k-1.$$ Next, we generalize this result to general graphs and derive sufficient conditions for a highly edge-connected general graph $G$ to have a factor $H$ such that for each vertex $v$, $d_H(v)\in \{f(v),f(v)+k\}$. Finally, we show that every $(4k-1)$-edge-connected essentially $(6k-7)$-edge-connected graph admits a bipartite factor whose degrees are positive and divisible by $k$.
