Abstract:When we say higher education is still not a discipline,we often mix up prerequisites for discipline establishment and criteria for a mature discipline.Higher education as a discipline is able to meet prerequisites for its establishment,but dosen't reach the criteria for a mature discipline,therefore so far it is only an "ought-to-be" discipline.The way an "ought-to-be" discipline should take is that we must set up outside institution first on which we can then depend to build inside institution.We are also required to hold strong faith toward discipline,emphasize applied research and construction of outside institution of discipline,strenghthen philosophical meditation upon dicipine

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to discuss the basic theoretical issues on disciplinary development of land science, and to promote its maturity and improvement. Comparative research method and theoretical analysis method are employed in this paper. The results show that the maturity of land science is still quite low due to the lack of theoretical system and disciplinary paradigm with inherent consistency, the increase of research fields but the decrease of research depth, and the emphasis on application projects but the ignorance on academic study. Excessive broad research contents have impacted the development of land science. The path and experience of water conservancy science around the engineering categories to promote discipline construction and the development is worth learning and using for reference. The conclusion of the paper is that as the logic origin of land science, land use conforms to the four regulations. The name of the discipline can be land science and engineering, the core contents are formation and evolution, structure and function, utilization and control, reclamation and construction, and their relations that can be expressed with a simple 4-corner cone model. Land science and engineering can be divided into four secondary discipline including land science, land consolidation and rehabilitation engineering, land survey and control engineering, land use and planning. The methodologies of land science and engineering should be a combination of spatial research, conjugate analysis, traceable study and positivism. The theoretical framework of this discipline can be built up based on three aspects including land structure and function, land evolution and control, land carrying capacity and sustainability.

Abstract:Through the analysis of medical overseas students,this paper indicated that different school education before entering a university,different knowledge level and the comprehensive ability lead to the various countries and regions of the students moral basis,between knowledge and behavior ability gap.According to these problems,combining medical overseas students' practical teaching,this paper put forward medical ethics education ideas for medical overseas students: changing the view of teaching,optimizing of course setting,organizing of teaching material selection,teaching language,teaching methods,optimizing the combination of campus culture.Through the good medical ethics education for medical overseas students,make them become qualified medical talents.

Abstract:During the 1920s and early 30's,with rapid increase in the number of higher education institutions(HEIs) in China,there appeared a noticeable decrease in their teaching quality.People at that time criticized this situation and proposed some suggestions for solving the problems.Most of them,no matter they were Chinese or foreigners,thought that the major problems with China's higher education were the following: indiscriminate founding of HEIs,imbalanced geographical distribution of HEIs,improper academic departmental structure,as well as inefficiency in education.Other problems include: too many specialized schools,esp.private schools,had been upgraded into universities;the number of liberal arts colleges and arts students far exceeded that of polytechnic institutes and science students;HEIs mostly were located in metropolises such as Peking and Shanghai;moonlighting were very common among faculty,etc.The above-mentioned problems did exist,but those comments on schools' teaching quality were not all true.

Abstract:The starting point of multi-disciplinary cooperation is not interdisciplinary,but discipline.The key problem troubling Chinese education is not the thought fetter caused by strict disciplinary boundary,but the non-standpoint state due to the shortage of consciousness of disciplinary boundary.The most important problem is the awakening of consciousness of disciplinary boundary and reinforcement of discipline identity to establish the discipline boundary of education.

Abstract:The disciplinery independence of pedagogy has long been debated in the academic field of education.The writer argues that the disciplinery independence of pedagogy is a fact in the sense of hard discipline,whereas it is an imminence in the sense of soft discipline.Despite the insufficient inner basis subject and methodology,researchers define the mode,selection and research methods. Relevant disciplinery theories do not result in the loss of the disciplinery independence of pedagogy.

However, there is a rapid development in American education after its independence, and now America has been the most strong nation in culture-exporting, with its higher education increasingly becoming the model that other countries try their best to study and imitate. So, it is necessary for us to review its historical developing process, to recover and explore the reason for its success; at the same time, a reference may be offered to our reform in higher education.

Abstract:In the recent 10 years, the pedagogy of higher education studies on the relative topics and classifies all the study into 5 categories: study on the basic direction, on the method of constructing the theory system, on the methodology, on the meta-higher education, and on the institution and legitimacy of the discipline etc. Result shows that the construction of higher pedagogy appears the trend of more and more complexion and multiple choices. On one hand, this explains the initial stage of the discipline, on the other hand this explains that complex reality of higher education may provide the rich resources that can be borrowed.
Problems with the Structure of Disciplines and Undergraduate Programs: A Survey on Foreign Language Education at Tertiary Level in Six Central Provinces in China

Abstract:Based upon statistics,this paper reports the results of a survey on the situation of foreign language education at tertiary level in China's six central provinces.Problems unveiled from it centered on four aspects:kinds of foreign language programs offered,structure of specialty settings,hierarchical structure of disciplines,and regional distribution of disciplines.The survey reveals:There is serious imbalance in the kinds of foreign language programs offered,with English excessively outnumbering other foreign languages.Specialty settings are characterized by homogenization.There are large proportions of institutions which offer college-level and undergraduate programs,but very few postgraduate,especially doctoral programs.Foreign language higher education in six central provinces as a whole lags far behind that of East-China developed regions,and development within six central provinces is also seriously imbalanced.The paper concludes with a suggestion that the provinces involved should have a needs-oriented and scientific planning for foreign language higher education,increase the kinds of foreign language programs,encourage diversified development of specialties,and speed up the development of postgraduate education.

Abstract:Higher education research is, by its nature, rather an introspective field of study. It is also highly dispersed within and beyond the academy: inherently, therefore, it is a multidisciplinary field of study. An analysis of 567 articles published in 15 leading higher education journals in 2010 demonstrates both the breadth of interest in higher education research across the academy, and variations between disciplines in the themes researched, the methods and methodologies employed and the theoretical perspectives applied. Examples of theoretical perspectives drawn from different disciplines and/or developed within higher education research, and applied to researching particular topics, are identified and discussed. It is concluded that the field is both healthy and growing, though, in most countries, it lacks a strong or disciplinary identity.

Abstract:The development of higher vocational education in China embodies a global trend of vocationalism that values skills and skilled workers, which is opposite, in some ways, to the Confucian tradition in Chinese education that values theoretical knowledge related to good governance. As the cultural trend supporting the development of higher vocational education, vocationalism is implicated in certain challenges including high tuition fees, limited upward mobility, and neglect of the humanities in education. Humanities for moral education, and mechanisms for upward mobility on equal terms for all, which are fundamental elements of Confucianism, may help resolve these challenges. This paper embodies the dialectic of a global trend and local culture in educational reform within the context of globalization.

Abstract:The Belt and Road Initiative has brought unprecedented development opportunities for domestic higher vocational colleges to “go abroad,” but it has also brought severe challenges. Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of higher vocational colleges “going abroad” has been confronted with a series of challenges, including the imperfect connection of policies, the lack of internal funds, as well as international standards, which are important factors affecting their development. Therefore, it is necessary to start from three aspects, which are policy guarantee, financing, and docking international standards. Through in-depth study of “going abroad” with tthe Belt and Road Initiative, we can effectively reduce the adverse impact of “going abroad” and provide a better and more innovative development environment for higher vocational colleges.

Abstract:"Discipline" and "Research Area" are treated as parallel concepts in this paper. The debate over whether Higher Education Research is a discipline or a research area has lasted quite a long period of time and this situation continues to exist.According to the analysis of institutionalization and disciplinarization of research area,this paper argues that over three decades,its paradigm construction at the level of social institutions and social functioning has already been done by Chinese higher education research.Its construction at the conceptual level,however,is far from being completed. Higher education research is therefore still an institutionalized research area rather than a discipline.Nevertheless,there is no inherent inferiority or superiority between a research area and a discipline.Their difference lies in the fact that they construct their respective paradigm at different levels during the process of knowledge differentiation and integration.The nature of higher education determines such features as the specialized scholars in this area,the limitation of research scope,practice -oriented theoretical research,the limitation of disciplinarization,and so on so forth.Therefore the future direction for higher education research should mainly be focused on paradigm construction at the conceptual level.

Abstract:China's local colleges and universities are the main force of China's higher education. Due to the limited construction funds, weak discipline foundation and other reasons, China's local colleges and universities generally face the embarrassment of weak discipline. How to break the constraints of the traditional management system, concentrate and efficiently allocate limited resources to achieve the overall improvement of the discipline construction level, the successful experience of China's special economic zones provides model reference and construction guidance for Chinese local universities. This study takes the subject special zones of local universities in China as the research object, chooses the theoretical system of economics and institutional theory as the logical starting point of the research, constructs the research framework of three dimensions of idea value, system design and action strategy, takes the reform of special economic zones as the institutional model and practice reference, and carries out the research from five dimensions of reform subject, logic, path, idea and strategy. Explore the effective development path of the rise of discipline construction.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to review the disciplinary construction of China’s land science and to promote its maturity and improvement. Methods of literature review, comparison, and induction are adopted. The results showed the basic issues of the disciplinary construction of land science from 14 aspects, including the object of subject, subject attribute, logic starting point of the subject, subject content, the name of the subject, discipline system, discipline characteristic, paradigm and core theory of the subject, theoretical and technical support, the relationship between subject development and related discipline development, subject development and social economy development, and the international comparison on history of the discipline growth. The conclusion includes that 1) land use is the logical starting point and core research of the subjects; 2) land science is an integrated subject of natural science, social science and technology science; 3) land science discipline maturity is still low, theoretical research lags behind the reality; 4) the development of land science can learn from the experience of other disciplines.
