Abstract:A no-liquid calibration technique for electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) is presented. The proposed method utilizes the electromagnetic measuring principle. Several differential equations for the relevant physical quantities and corresponding boundary conditions are established. A set of no-liquid calibration equipment is designed and implemented. By measuring the point-by-point magnetic induction on the boundary surface as well as the structure dimensions of EMF, the sensitivity of EMF are acquired via the numerical solution of the differential equations with measured boundary conditions. The comparison of the no-liquid and practical-flow calibration methods is carried out on two EMFs with diameter of 200 mm. The relative error of the sensitivity data determined by the two methods is less than 0.5%.

Abstract:The major advantages and disadvantages of electromagnetic flow meter were introduced mainly from the measured conductance of media,the temperature of the measured medium,the situation when the measured liquid was acid,alkali,salt and other highly corrosive media situation. The measured liquid as dirty( two- phase flow,Slurry)liquid medium conditions,process fluid flow,the choice of the large diameter electromagnetic flowmeter,material of pipeline,installation instrument position of process piping installation section,and other aspects were also considered.How to earthing in field was introduced,and two several typical application cases of electromagnetic flow meter were given.

Abstract:Electromagnetic flowmeter which is based on Faraday's induction law,is a velocity-type flowmeter.In this paper,electromagnetic flowmeter at home and abroad for the development of the status and trends is introduced in brief.Based on a brief introduction of the electromagnetic flowmeter measurement principle,this article uses MSP430F149 MCU to design LDB electromagnetic flowmeter,MSP430F149 MCU circuit to the core,thus simplifying the circuit design of hardware peripherals to achieve the measurement of liquid flow and accumulation.The diagram of the overall design,some hardware and software control flow chart are given.In this paper,the design of the LDB-type electromagnetic flowmeter has been put into production,the practical applications show that the design of high-precision,low-power and reliability,and other characteristics of the design to meet the basic requirements.

Abstract:A group of experiments designed to compare the performance between multi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter and bi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter proved that multi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter outperforms bi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter especially under the condition of non-axisymmetric flow or low velocity flow. Because the presented flowmeter is based on velocity distribution, it has high precision and stability. So it will extend the application of electromagnetic flowmeters greatly.

Abstract:Compared with other flow meters, the theory of electromagnetic flow meter is well developed. Until now, we are able to predict the three dimensional characteristics of this kind of flow meters with reasonable accuracy. This has given much help to the designers to improve the flow meters. On the other hand, the theory can offer a tool for the users of this kind of flow meters to judge the application situations, estimate the possible measurement error, etc. This paper introduces the recent work of the author on the theory of the electromagnetic flow meter. The basic physical conceptions and equations are given with a brief history review of the theory research. Several examples are given of using the theory to analyze the meters' behavior in different application situations. They are: effect of the conducting pipe connections; errors caused by a pipe wall of different electromagnetic properties; gas-liquid flow and errors caused by a relative motion of the probe.

Abstract:Dry calibration technique of electromagnetic flow-meters is presented, including its principle, present research status and prospect of industrial application. The precise meas-urement of the distribution of magnetic field in the effective zone of the electromagnetic flowmeters is indicated as the key factor which impacts the industrial application of dry calibra-tion technique. The direct measurement of the distribution of magnetic field, however, is presently unavailable, therefore, an effective method is introduced to obtain indirectly the distribu-tion of magnetic field through measuring other physical pa-rameters caused by the electromagnetic induction using the alternating characteristic of magnetic field. The principle, fea-tures and implement of two indirect dry calibration methods, eddy current field measurement method and surface weighting function method, are discussed, which provides a useful refer-ence for the research of dry calibration technique of electro-magnetic flowmeters and its industrial application in China.

Abstract:Abstract Electromagnetic flowmeters are widely used in industrial production or control. However, the structure of the traditional electromagnetic flowmeter makes it restricted in some applications. With the development of medicine, aviation and other fields, people’s demand for multiphase flow measurement is increasing. However, the theoretical study of the multi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter has always lacked systemicity, especially in the relationship between the tube wall, the electrical characteristics of the fluid and the output signal. Based on the existing research, this paper studies several key technologies of multi-electrode electromagnetic flowmeter. The structure of the existing electromagnetic flowmeter is improved, and a multi electrode non insulated pipe wall electromagnetic flow sensor is proposed. According to the equivalent circuit, the influence of the sensor structure on the measurement is analyzed, and the disturbance of the electrical characteristics of the tube wall to the output signal is obtained by combining with the weight function analysis. According to the results of theoretical calculation and analysis, a negative feedback circuit is designed. According to the experimental results, the accuracy and reliability of the novel electromagnetic flowmeter are verified.

Abstract:Considerable interests in recent years have been directed towards the study of various mechanical devices to draw up deep ocean water (DOW), particularly the air-lift artificial upwelling devices. However, one of the obstacles which limit their application in open ocean mariculture is the difficulty in estimating the flow rate in the upwelling pipe.Conventionally, the water flow rate in the upwelling pipe is measured by a electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF). However, the EMF can not withstand the pressure under the sea.In this study, a current meter based on accelerometer is designed. It aims to obtain relatively precise data of flow rate in pipe, which enables artificial upwelling devices to perform better in mariculture.

Abstract:Lead/lead-bismuth cooled fast reactors (LFR) have generated significant interest as fourth-generation reactors due to their safety features and sustainable nuclear fuel. However, it is crucial to effectively monitoring the flow of lead-based solutions in these reactors. Traditional permanent magnet electromagnetic flow meters are expensive, difficult to maintain, and suffer from issues such as demagnetization and poor temperature resistance. In order to address these problems, this paper proposes a novel coil-based electromagnetic flow meter for lead-bismuth solutions. The feasibility of this approach is analyzed and simulated, and the results show that the size parameters of the flowmeter, especially the thickness of the oil cooling channel, will affect the heat dissipation effect and the output signal magnitude, which are mutually restricted. The established model can support future iterative optimization.

Abstract:Electromagnetic flow measurement techniques, which based on Faraday's Induction Low, are widely used for the measurement of flow velocity of conductive fluid in pipes. This article presents a multiple electrode electromagnetic induction flow imaging system and introduces the Tikhonov regularization methods. The Regularized Nonnegative Least Squares methods for estimating the velocity distribution on circular cross section of flowing fluid was described and flow velocity profiles were reconstructed by this methods.

Abstract:Advances in computing technology enable dry calibration of large-diameter electromagnetic (EM) flowmeters at low cost, which has been recognized as an effective alternative to traditional flow rigs. Dry calibration requiring no actual liquid in the measuring pipe utilizes the magnetic field distribution reconstructed from measured boundary conditions to determine the sensitivity of the EM flowmeter. However, because sensors have finite sizes, and the fact that inner linings of the measuring pipe deform due to mechanical stresses, a measurement dead domain (MDD) exists between the measured boundary surface and the pipe wall. As the MDD is often close to the magnetic exciting unit, neglecting it results in significant errors in dry calibration. This paper offers a practical method combining iterative optimization and reconstruction to estimate the magnetic field in the MDD from the field data on the measured boundary surface. The method has been validated on an off-the-shelf industrial EM flowmeter by comparing the estimated field in the MDD with experimental measurements. It has been demonstrated that accurately accounting for the immeasurable field in the MDD eliminates more than two-thirds of the dry calibration errors. The estimation method illustrated here can also be extended to measure other physical fields which obey similar governing equations.

Abstract:When the electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) is applied to the industrial field, the effective flow signal of the electrode output is easily drowned out by the noise under the condition of strong noise and flow rate lower than 0.2 m/s. However the flow signal drowned out in strong noise cannot be measured accurately by traditional electromagnetic flow detection technology, which cannot separate signal and noise effectively. The correlation technology can be applied to select the reference signal with the same regularity as the target signal to separate the target signal and remove the noise. Firstly, researches on the correlation detection and the basic correlation theory of the electromagnetic flowmeter are carried out. Then, the design of the electromagnetic flow measurement system based on the theoretical research is completed. Finally, in order to verify the performance and accuracy of the designed flow measurement system, a test platform for electromagnetic flow detection is set up, and the verification experiments are implemented. The experiment results show that the electromagnetic flow measurement system based on the correlation theory can not only meet the requirements of traditional flow measurement but also have unique advantages in suppression of strong noise interference, slurry flow measurement, and low flow rate measurement.

Abstract:The interaction between an electrically conducting fluid and an external magnetic field in an ideal cylindrical electromagnetic flowmeter is numerically investigated for both laminar and turbulent flows. Induced electric potential in the fluid, and the difference in potential at the measuring electrodes are directly obtained by including MHD effects in the CFD simulations. Fully developed laminar and turbulent flows are simulated. The computed electric potential difference on the electrodes agrees with analytical values for small Hartmann number cases, where the induced Lorentz force is small. Turbulent flow produces a more uniform electric potential distribution in the flow meter cross-section than laminar flow. These integrated MHD/CFD simulations couple the MHD effect with flow dynamics without deriving a weighting function with an assumed velocity profile, which will be necessary for electromagnetic flow meters when the Hartmann number is not small.

Abstract:Abstract Electromagnetic Flowmeter is widely used in industrial production and life, because it is characterized by high precision and little environmental interference in electromagnetic flow measurement. However, the commonly used low frequency rectangular wave excitation greatly reduces the measurement accuracy and measurement range of electromagnetic flowmeter due to in-phase interference, differential interference and other factors. Double-frequency trapezoidal wave excitation has the advantages of both excellent zero-point stability of low frequency excitation and strong ability to suppress the noise of slurry fluid and fast response speed of high frequency excitation. In this paper, a double-frequency trapezoidal wave excitation method for electromagnetic flow measurement is proposed. Then the experimental platform is established to verify the measurement accuracy and measurement range. According to the comparison with the instant flow of the standard meter, the measurement accuracy of double-frequency trapezoidal wave excitation is significantly higher than that of low frequency rectangular wave excitation, and in phase interference and differential interference are significantly reduced.
Study on a New Electromagnetic Flow Measurement Technology Based on Differential Correlation Detection

Abstract:Under the conditions of low flow rate and strong noise, the current electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) cannot satisfy the requirement for measurement or separate the actual flow signal and interference signal accurately. Correlation detection technology can reduce the bandwidth and suppress noise effectively using the periodic transmission of signal and noise randomness. As for the problem that the current anti-interference technology cannot suppress noise effectively, the noise and interference of the electromagnetic flowmeter were analyzed in this paper, and a design of the electromagnetic flowmeter based on differential correlation detection was proposed. Then, in order to verify the feasibility of the electromagnetic flow measurement system based on differential correlation, an experimental platform for the comparison between standard flow and measured flow was established and a verification experiment was carried out under special conditions and with flow calibration measurements. Finally, the data obtained in the experiment were analyzed. The research result showed that an electromagnetic flowmeter based on differential correlation detection satisfies the need for measurement completely. The lower limit of the flow rate of the electromagnetic flowmeter based on the differential correlation principle could reach 0.084 m/s. Under strong external interferences, the electromagnetic flowmeter based on differential correlation had a fluctuation range in output value of only 10 mV. This shows that the electromagnetic flowmeter based on the differential correlation principle has unique advantages in measurements taken under the conditions of strong noise, slurry flow, and low flow rate.

Abstract:The growth rate of vortex flowmeter is high. At present, vortex flowmeter is applied extensively to the measurement of pipe flow rate, and have become one of the flowmeters available for general use. However, vortex flowmeter is developing flowmeter. There are still some limits in understanding of fundamental flow physics and experience of practical application. In order to solve these problems, many efforts have been done to the vortex flowmeter, and progresses have been achieved. The development of vortex flowmeter is discussed and reviewed in these aspects: vortex separating, vortex shedder shape, vortex shedding signal measurement and processing. The difficulty in research and future trends of vortex flowmeter are also discussed. A new mass flow rate measurement method using vortex shedding principle is proposed.

Abstract:Electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) is a widely used flow measurement instrument in the 20th century. It is based on the Faraday's law and developed rapidly in recent decades. It plays an important role in our daily life such as water treatment, food production and chemical industry. An improved excitation structure with E-type frame made by permeable material added in the traditional Helmholtz coil is proposed in this paper to simulate the distribution of the magnetic field. The optimal coil width is obtained which can ensure the uniformity of magnetic field with minimum physical size. A compensate method is discussed to improve the switch speed of the magnetic field so that the EMF can be used to measure fast flow.
