Abstract:A combined nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Mossbauer effect study of YFe10V2 has been carried out. Based on the Fe-57 hyperfine fields (HFS) obtained from the Mossbauer results, the resonance lines of the NMR spectrum are assigned and the site preference of V atoms is determined. On the other hand, according to the site preference of vanadium atoms determined by NMR, together with neutron diffraction results, the Fe-57 Mossbauer spectrum is fitted. It can be deduced from the NMR results that the existence of one nearest-neighbour Fe atom leads to an increase in the V HF of about 0.35, and the core electron polarization contribution H(cp), the 4s conduction electron polarization contribution H(s) and the effect of the second-nearest-neighbour Fe atoms on the HF Sites cannot be negligible.

Abstract:Mössbauer studies of R2(Fe1−x−y Ni x Co y )17 showed that the transferred hyperfine field at Fe nuclei due to magnetic rare earth (R) atoms is about one Tesla. Magnetic moments of the R atoms were determined from magnetic measurements as μTb=8.52μB, μGd=6.22μB. The mixed substitution of Ni and Co for Fe leads to an increase of the ordering temperature. A slight preference occupancy for Fe was observed involving the dumbbell shaped f or c site. The substitution effects of Ni and Co on the hyperfine field of f or c site, the average hyperfine field and the average isomer shift were also discussed.

Abstract:The structure influence of carbon atoms in RFe10.5Mo1.5Cx (R=Nd, Y, Dy) compounds was investigated by using X-ray diffraction. A detailed 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy under 77K and hyperfine field interaction are presented. The studies indicate that the incorporation of carbon atoms into its parent compound can increase the hyperfine field and the saturation magnetization. The result confirmed that the magnetic properties of RFe10.5Mo1.5 compounds can be improved by interstitial carbon atoms just like the influence of nitrogen atoms.

Abstract:Fe71.4Si13B9.6Mo2Cr1Cu1P2(y =0、0.0050、0.0077)amorphous alloy ribbons were pre-pared by a single-roller melt spinner in atmospheric environment.The effects of Y addition on the crystallization and magnetic properties of the Fe71.4Si13B9.6Mo2Cr1Cu1P2 alloy were studied by differ-ential thermal analysis,HT35 core measuring instrument and soft magnetic property measurement in-strument.The results show that with increasing content of Y,the initial crystallization temperature decreases .Compared with the sample without Y addition,the best annealing temperature decreases by about 5~10 ℃.The addition of Y can improve the maximum permeability and saturation magnetic induction intensity of the alloy.When y =0.0077,the maximum permeability of the alloy is 5.5×105 Gs/Oe and the saturation magnetic induction intensity of the alloy can reach 1.192 T.However,coer-cive force and core loss of the alloy both see a slight increase.

Abstract:Magnetic transitions and the magnetoresistance (MR) effect of the HfFe6Ge6-type Y1-xCexMn6Sn6 (x=0.1-0.3) compounds have been investigated in the temperature range of 5-385 K. Y0.9Ce0.1Mn6Sn6 and Y0.825Ce0.175Mn6Sn6 show antiferromagnetism and Y0.7Ce0.3Mn6Sn6 undergoes an antiferromagnetic (AFM) to ferrimagnetic (Fi) transition with increasing temperature. The metamagnetic transition from helical antiferromagnetism to ferrimagnetism can be also induced by an applied field for those compounds. The metamagnetic transition field decreases with increasing Ce content, such as from 25 kOe for x=0.1 to 11 kOe for x=0.3 at 5 K. The giant MR (GMR) effect for Y1-xCexMn6Sn6 (x=0.1-0.3) is observed with metamagnetic behaviour, such as -37% at 5 K under a field of 50 kOe for the compounds (x=0.175 and 0.3). It is found that the MR behaviour for Y0.7Ce0.3Mn6Sn6 in the Fi state follows the magnetic-field power law MR proportional to-H-q at a fixed temperature, and obeys the relationship MR=-[alpha+beta/(T+gamma)] under a fixed magnetic field.

Abstract:The crystallographic and magnetic properties of Y2(Fe1−xAlx) 14B, where x equals 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, and 0.08, have been investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements at room temperature and 85 K. Magnetic anisotropy and magnetization changes with aluminum substitution indicate that, because of size, the aluminum preferentially occupies the j2 site over the remaining five crystallographically nonequivalent iron sites. This preferential occupation has been confirmed by Mössbauer spectral studies, which indicate that the compositional variation of the hyperfine field for each site is related to the number of near-neighbor aluminum atoms for the site. This compositional variation is helpful in assigning the different spectral components in these alloys as well as in the related Nd2(Fe1−xCox)14B and Y2(Fe1−xCox)14B alloys. In all cases these assignments are consistent with the local symmetry and coordination environment for each site.

Abstract:The atomic and magnetic structures of Nd2(Fe1−xCox)14B, with x equal to 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3, and Y2(Fe1−xCox)14B, with x equal to 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4, have been investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy at room temperature and 85 K. A Mössbauer effect spectral component analysis, based on neutron diffraction site populations in Nd2(Fe1−xCox)14B, has revealed a stronger compositional dependence for the hyperfine field and magnetic moment on the j2 site than is observed for the other five iron sites. A similar analysis for the Y2(Fe1−xCox)14B compounds shows lower hyperfine fields and hence moments on the c and e sites, as well as a significant decrease in the hyperfine field at the j1 site as the cobalt concentration is increased. The iron site hyperfine fields, and their dependence on cobalt content, are consistent with the local site coordination environments in both series of compounds.

Abstract:The characterization and magnetic properties of YFe(12-x)Mo(x) (x=2.0, 2.5 and 3.0) with the ThMn(12)-type structure, and the magnetocaloric effect of YFe(9.5)Mo(2.5) were investigated. A directional growth was observed in YFe(10)Mo(2) alloy. A broad peak in the zero-field-cooling (ZFC) magnetization curve of the YFe(12-xx)Mo(x) compounds is ascribed to the existence of ferromagnetic clusters with different site moments and scattered orientations of the moments. The broad range of the peak is reduced with increasing Mo content. A weak peak is observed near 190 K in the ZFC curve of YFe(9)Mo(3), which is associated with the 8i sites being mostly occupied by Mo atoms. YFe(9.5)Mo(2.5) has a magnetic entropy change of -1.09 J/kg K for a field change of 5 T at 277 K. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Mössbauer spectra and self-consistent spin-polarized electronic structures of YFe10Mo2 and YFe10Mo2Z (Z = H, N) are reported. The Mössbauer data were analyzed with the aid of band calculations. The calculations show that the sequence of hyperfine fields for the Fe sites in the parent alloy is changed by nitrogenation while it remains unchanged upon hydrogenation. The analyses of the local magnetic moments μloc, Fermi-contact hyperfine fields (HFC) and the isomer shifts (IS) at different Fe sites in YFe10Mo2 and YFe10Mo2 (N, H) show that the effect of the interstitial atoms is stronger for N than that for H and the effect of the interstitial atoms on magnetic moments and hyperfine fields depends on the chemical properties of the Z atoms. The calculated isomer shifts (IS) and hyperfine fields (HFC) are compared with the results of Mössbauer-spectroscopy experiments.

Abstract:Neutron diffraction was used to determine the crystallographic structures of the YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2} and YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2}X (X=H,N). The spin-polarized muffin-tin-orbital method was applied to calculate the electronic structures of YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2}X (X=H,B,C,N,O,F) and YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2}E, which is YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2} with an empty sphere insertion. Both N and H atoms were found to reside on the interstitial 2b sites. The magnetovolume effect and chemical bonding effect of interstitial X atoms are investigated by a systematic analysis of the local magnetic moments {mu}{sub loc}, Fermi-contact hyperfine fields (H{sub FC}), and isomer shifts (IS) at different Fe sites in YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2}X (X=H,B,C,N,O,F) and YFe{sub 10}Mo{sub 2}E. It is found that the insertion of the X atom changes not only Fe-Fe interaction, but also Fe-X interaction, and the latter is dependent on the chemical properties of X atoms. It can be concluded that, based on our results, the chemical bonding effect in R{minus}(Fe,M){sub 12}{minus}X is determined by the features of the Fe-X bonds. The role of the X atom is not only to increase the magnetic moments and hyperfine fields through magnetovolume effects, but also to affect those by chemical-bonding effects. Abstract:In the present study, magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of Tb(Fe1−xMnx)2 compounds were examined by magnetic measurement, Mössbauer and X-ray study. The Mössbauer study shows that the easy magnetization direction of the compounds may deviate slightly from the major axis of symmetry; and the average isomer shift of the compounds increases with increasing x-value, which was attributed to the charge transfer from 3d electrons of Mn atoms into the 3d band of Fe. It was also found from the X-ray measurement that the spontaneous magnetostriction λ111 decreased due to Mn substitution, which can be understood on the basis of the single-ion model. The increase of the polycrystal magnetostriction λs due to Mn substitution was also found and can be ascribed to the increase of λ100, which was suggested to be caused by the change in the filling of d-bands due to substitution.

Abstract:Magnetohistory effects in YFe12-xMox (x=1.5-3.0) have been investigated. The freezing temperature Tf increases with increasing Mo concentration. Irreversible behavior still appears in an applied field up to 6 T for YFe9.5Mo2.5. These magnetohistory behaviors may be understood by domain-wall pinning.

Abstract:The magnetic properties and 57Fe Mössbauer spectra of the compounds YTi(Fe1−xNix)11 were investigated. The compounds crystallize in a ThMn12-type structure when x < 0.7. The substitution of nickel for iron results in an increase in Curie temperature with x < 0.5, and a peak is observed in the composition dependance of saturation magnetization at x = 0.07. The Mössbauer effect measurements were carried out at room temperature with x equal to 0.00, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.20. The best fits indicate that nickel atoms preferentially occupy the j and f sites. A maximum was found in the variation of hyperfine field as a function of nickel content, which is in good agreement with the results of magnetic measurements.

Abstract:The atomic structure of amorphous alloys plays a crucial role in determining both their glassforming ability and magnetic properties. In this study, we investigate the influence of adding the Y element on the glass-forming ability and magnetic properties of Fe 86-x Y x B 7 C 7 (x=0, 5, 10 at.%) amorphous alloys via both experiments and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Furthermore, we explore the correlation between local atomic structures and properties. Our results demonstrate that an increased Y content in the alloys leads to a higher proportion of icosahedral clusters, which can potentially enhance both glass-forming ability and thermal stability. These findings have been experimentally validated. The analysis of the electron energy density and magnetic moment of the alloy reveals that the addition of Y leads to hybridization between Y-4d and Fe-3d orbitals, resulting in a reduction in ferromagnetic coupling between Fe atoms. This subsequently reduces the magnetic moment of Fe atoms as well as the total magnetic moment of the system, which is consistent with experimental results. The results could help understand the relationship between atomic structure and magnetic property, and providing valuable insights for enhancing the performance of metallic glasses in industrial applications.

Abstract:In this work, α-phase Fe-12 V alloy (at.%) with high total magnetostriction is selected to perform Mössbauer and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) measurements to investigate the temperature dependence of atomic clusters and the magnetic properties. The results show that with increasing temperature, the ferromagnetism firstly drops and then slightly increases, and finally decreases severely, which is mainly determined by the variations of the three kinds of atomic clusters (Fe-rich, V-rich and free-Fe) in the alloy. The hyperfine magnetic field, which decreases with temperature, is always dominated by the Fe-rich clusters. The atomic combination of the free-Fe clusters also determines the magnetic properties in the temperature range from room temperature to 600 °C; however, the free-Fe clusters contribution to the hyperfine magnetic fields tends to become zero above 600 °C, whereas that of the V-rich becomes obvious. When the temperature is high enough, the hyperfine magnetic field decreases sharply due to the destruction of the ordered Fe-rich state. VSM was selected to understand the relationship between the magnetic moment and the heating temperature, and the Curie temperature (TC=836.36 °C) of the Fe-12 V alloy was obtained as well. Finally, the formula reflecting the magnetic moment of the α-phase Fe-12 V alloy varying with temperature is also successfully derived.

Abstract:YFexMn12−x (x=7–10) compounds were synthesized; their structure and magnetic properties were investigated, the results reveal that a higher Fe concentration x makes the crystal phase change from ThMn12-type to Th2Zn17-type, with the phase transition point x=9; the Curie temperature increases with increasing x, which becomes 290K for x=8.8 and 150K for x=7; and the magnetization also increases monotonically with increasing x until the phase transition point.

Abstract:Structure and magnetic properties of YFe 10 Mo 2 and YFe 10 Mo 2 N compounds have been studied with neutron diffraction and self-consistent spin-polarized linear muffin-tin orbital (LMTO) band calculation. The diffraction results indicate that the nitrogen atoms are located at 2b sites with nearly 99% occupancy. The electronic structure calculations give excellent results for site-dependent Fe magnetic moments and hyperfine fields. The interstitial-atom effect on the local magnetic moments and hyperfine fields is explained with magneto-volume effect and chemical bonding effect. The contributions of the magneto-volume effect and the chemical bonding effect of the nitrogen to the magnetic moments (µ L o c ), Fermi-contact hyperfine fields ( H F C ) and isomer shifts ( I S ) are reported.

Abstract:YTi(Fe1-xCox)11 crystallizes in the ThMn12-type tetragonal structure, with x ranging from 0.0 to 1.0, the Curie temperature increases with the increase of Co content. In order to understand the relation between magnetic properties and microst-ructure of these compounds, we studied their M?ssbauer spectra. The M?ssbauer effect measurements were carried out at room temperature on YTi(Fe1-xCox)11, with x equal to 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4. The best fits confirm that Co atoms preferentially occupy the j and f sites. The hyperfine fields of the measured samples reach a maximum at x = 0.2,which is in agreement with the results of magnetic measurements. By comparing the experimental results of M?ssbauer spectra of YTi(Fe1-xCox)11, Y2(Fe1-xCox)14B and YTi(Fe1-xNix)11, we analyze the difference of the 3d band structure between YTiFe11, and Y2Fe14B.
