Abstract:In this paper we study some determinant inequalities and matrix inequalities which have a geometrical flavour. We first examine some inequalities which place work of Macbeath [13] in a more general setting and also relate to recent work of Gressman [8]. In particular, we establish optimisers for these determinant inequalities. We then use these inequalities to establish our main theorem which gives a geometric inequality of matrix type which improves and extends some inequalities of Christ in [5].

In the first problem, we study the perturbations that happen when positive matrices are added to diagonal blocks of the original matrix. In the second problem, the perturbations are added to the inverses of the matrices.

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya rearrangement inequality to positive definite matrices. The inequality can be seen as a commutation principle in the sense of Iusem and Seeger. An important instrument in the proof is a first-order perturbation formula for a certain spectral function, which could be of independent interests. The inequality is then extended to rectangular matrices. Using our main results, we derive new inequalities for several distance-like functions encountered in various signal processing or machine learning applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain some new matrix inequalities involving Hadamard product. Also some Hadamard product inequalities for accretive matrices involving the matrix means, positive unital linear maps and matrix concave functions are investigated. Abstract:Given a block triangular matrix $M$ over a noncommutative ring with invertible diagonal blocks, this work gives two new representations of its inverse $M^{-1}$. Each block element of $M^{-1}$ is explicitly expressed via a quasideterminant of a submatrix of $M$ with the block Hessenberg type. Accordingly another representation for each inverse block is attained, which is in terms of recurrence relationship with multiple terms among blocks of $M^{-1}$. The latter result allows us to perform an off-diagonal rectangular perturbation analysis for the inverse calculation of $M$. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:This paper concerns the problem of the k-subdirect sum of two H-matrices. Some sufficient conditions are given such that the k-subdirect sum of two H-matrices is an H-matrix. Our main results generalize the one provided by Bru, Pedroche and Szyld [Subdirect sums of M -matrices and of their inverse, Electron. J. Linear Algebra, 13,162-174(2005)]. Furthermore, the subdirect sum of block strictly diagonally dominant (BSDD) matrices is also researched. Examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results presented.

Abstract:We study extensions of the GD tensor inverse using the M-product. The aim of current research is threefold. In the first place, the tensor GD inverse under the M-product is introduced and considered. We give the several properties and representations of the GD inverse using the core nilpotent decomposition and then establish the reverse-order law rules for the GD inverse. Second, the tensor GDMP inverse is studied and the corresponding numerical algorithm is given. In addition, the reverse- and forward-order laws of the GDMP inverse are established. Third, the GD-Star tensor inverse under the M-product is introduced and studied. Finally, the GD inverse, GDMP inverse and GD-Star inverse solutions of multilinear equations are investigated. Illustrative numerical calculation is performed.

On the Gaussian product inequality conjecture for disjoint principal minors of Wishart random matrices

Abstract:This paper extends various results related to the Gaussian product inequality (GPI) conjecture to the setting of disjoint principal minors of Wishart random matrices. This includes product-type inequalities for matrix-variate analogs of completely monotone functions and Bernstein functions of Wishart disjoint principal minors, respectively. In particular, the product-type inequalities apply to inverse determinant powers. Quantitative versions of the inequalities are also obtained when there is a mix of positive and negative exponents. Furthermore, an extended form of the GPI is shown to hold for the eigenvalues of Wishart random matrices by virtue of their law being multivariate totally positive of order 2 (MTP${}_2$). A new, unexplored avenue of research is presented to study the GPI from the point of view of elliptical distributions.

Abstract:Newton's inequalities $c_n^2 \ge c_{n-1}c_{n+1}$ are shown to hold for the normalized coefficients $c_n$ of the characteristic polynomial of any $M$- or inverse $M$-matrix. They are derived by establishing first an auxiliary set of inequalities also valid for both of these classes. They are also used to derive some new necessary conditions on the eigenvalues of nonnegative matrices.

Abstract:In this paper, we present some weighted Hölder-type inequalities for N −tuple of n×n complex matrices, with applications that include refined bounds for the norm of the sum of two matrices, the numerical radius of a matrix and the numerical radius for the product of two matrices. The relation with the existing literature will be discussed, where some results are proven to be improvements of celebrated results in the literature. Further, numerical examples are given to support the significance of other results.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to investigate inequalities on symmetric sums of diagonalizable and positive definite tensors. In particular, we generalize the well-known Hlawka and Popoviciu inequalities to the case of diagonalizable and positive definite tensors. Abstract:A new subclass of H -matrices named generalized (for shortly, ) matrices is introduced and some properties of matrices are presented. The relationship between matrices and other subclasses of H -matrices is studied. Moreover, the infinity norm bounds for the inverse of matrices are provided. Using the proposed infinity norm bounds, error bounds of the linear complementarity problems for matrices are given, which improve some existing results. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the validity of new results.
