Abstract:In this work, the lattice of varieties of semigroups and the lattice of varieties of I-semigroups (a common setting for both the variety of completely regular semigroups and the variety of inverse semigroups) are studied with respect to the following concepts: a variety V of (I-)semigroups is said to be locally K-finite, where K stands for any of the five Green's relations, if every finitely generated semigroup from V has only finitely many (distinct) K-classes.

Abstract:Eilenberg's variety theorem marked a milestone in the algebraic theory of regular languages by establishing a formal correspondence between properties of regular languages and properties of finite monoids recognizing them. Motivated by classes of languages accepted by quantum finite automata, we introduce basic varieties of regular languages, a weakening of Eilenberg's original concept that does not require closure under any boolean operations, and prove a variety theorem for them. To do so, we investigate the algebraic recognition of languages by lattice bimodules, generalizing Klima and Polak's lattice algebras, and we utilize the duality between algebraic completely distributive lattices and posets.

We also give definitions of automata on lattice ordered semirings, prove that the family of K-Languages is closed under union, and discuss the conditions for the closedness of families of K-languages under intersection, generalized intersection and reversal operations.

Abstract:Our aim in this paper is to explore semisubtractive ideals of semirings. We prove that they form a complete modular lattice. We introduce Golan closures and prove some of their basic properties. We explore the relations between $Q$-ideals and semisubtractive ideals of semirings, and also study them in $s$-local semirings. We introduce two subclasses of semisubtractive ideals: $s$-strongly irreducible and $s$-irreducible, and provide various representation theorems. By endowing a topology on the set of semisubtractive ideals, we prove that the space is $T_0$, sober, connected, and quasi-compact. We also briefly study continuous maps between semisubtractive spaces. We construct $s$-congruences and prove a bijection between these congruences and semisubtractive ideals.

A note on idempotent semirings

Abstract:For a commutative semiring S, by an S-algebra we mean a commutative semiring A equipped with a homomorphism from S to A. We show that the subvariety of S-algebras determined by the identities 1+2x=1 and x^2=x is closed under non-empty colimits. The (known) closedness of the category of Boolean rings and of the category of distributive lattices under non-empty colimits in the category of commutative semirings both follow from this general statement.

Abstract:For a symplectic vector space $V$, a projective subvariety $Z \subset {\bf P} V$ is a Legendrian variety if its affine cone $\widehat{Z} \subset V$ is Lagrangian. In addition to the classical examples of subadjoint varieties associated to simple Lie algebras, many examples of nonsingular Legendrian varieties have been discovered which have positive-dimensional automorphism groups. We give a characterization of subadjoint varieties among such Legendrian varieties in terms of the isotropy representation. Our proof uses some special features of the projective third fundamental forms of Legendrian varieties and their relation to the lines on the Legendrian varieties.

Abstract:We prove a representation theorem for totally ordered idempotent monoids via a nested sum construction. Using this representation theorem we obtain a characterization of the subdirectly irreducible members of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids and a proof that its lattice of subvarieties is countably infinite. For the variety of commutative idempotent distributive l -monoids we give an explicit description of its lattice of subvarieties and show that each of its subvarieties is finitely axiomatized. Finally we give a characterization of which spans of totally ordered idempotent monoids have an amalgam in the class of totally ordered monoids, showing in particular that the class of totally ordered commutative idempotent monoids has the strong amalgamation property and that various classes of distributive l -monoids do not have the amalgamation property. We also show that exactly seven non-trivial finitely generated subvarieties of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids have the amalgamation property; we are able to determine for all but three of its subvarieties whether they have the amalgamation property or not.

Abstract:We study some nil-ai-semiring varieties. We establish a model for the free object in the variety generated by all commutative flat semirings. Also, we provide two sufficient conditions under which a finite ai-semiring is nonfinitely based. As a consequence, we show that the power semiring of the finite nil-semigroup is nonfinitely based, where W is a finite set of words in the free commutative semigroup over an alphabet X , whenever the maximum of lengths of words in W is and W does not contain the k th power of a letter. This partially answers a problem raised by Jackson et al. (J Algebr 611: 211–245, 2022).

Abstract:A variety is a class of algebraic structures axiomatized by a set of equations. An equation is basic if there is at most one occurrence of a nonnullary operation symbol on each side. We show that a variety axiomatized by basic equations has the strong amalgamation property. Suppose further that the language has no constant symbol and, for each equation, either one side is operation-free, or exactly the same variables appear on both sides. Then also the joint embedding property holds, hence if the language is finite we get the existence of Fraïssé limits for finite algebras. Examples include virtually all the varieties defining classical Maltsev conditions. In a few special cases, the above properties are preserved when further unary operation symbols appear in the equations.

Abstract:We study l-independence of monodromy groups G_l of any compatible system of l-adic representations (in the sense of Serre) of number field K assuming semisimplicity. We prove that the formal character of the derived group of the identity component of G_l is independent of l and the (complexified) Lie algebra g_l of G_l satisfies an equal-rank subalgebra equivalence for all l. This equivalence is equivalent to the l-independence of the number of A_n factors for all n belonging to {6,9,10,11,...} and the parity of A_4 factors in g_l.

Abstract:In a remarkable article Ribet showed how to attach rational $2$-dimensional representations to elliptic ${\mathbb Q}$-curves. An abelian variety $A$ is a (weak) $K$-variety if it is isogenous to all of its $\text{Gal}_K$-conjugates. In this article we study the problem of attaching an absolutely irreducible $\ell$-adic representation of $\text{Gal}_K$ to an abelian $K$-variety, which sometimes has smaller dimension than expected. When possible, we also construct a Galois-equivariant pairing, which restricts the image of this representation. As an application of our construction, we prove modularity of abelian surfaces over ${\mathbb Q}$ with potential quaternionic multiplication.

In this paper, we give a sufficient condition under which an involution monoid generates a variety with continuum many subvarieties. According to this result, several involution [math]-trivial monoids are shown to generate varieties with continuum many subvarieties. These examples include Rees quotients of free involution monoids, Lee monoids with involution, and Straubing monoids with involution.
