Abstract:The purpose of this article is proving the equality of two natural $\mathcal L$-invariants attached to the adjoint representation of a weigth one cusp form, each defined by purely analytic, respectively algebraic means. The proof departs from Greenberg's definition of the algebraic $\mathcal L$-invariant as a universal norm of a canonical $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ associated to the representation. We relate it to a certain $2\times 2$ regulator of $p$-adic logarithms of global units by means of class field theory, which we then show to be equal to the analytic $\mathcal L$-invariant computed by Rivero and the second author.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group, and let chi be a character of a reductive subgroup H of G. We construct chi-invariant linear functionals on certain cohomologically induced representations of G, and we show that these linear functionals do not vanish on the bottom layers. Applying this construction, we prove two Archimedean nonvanishing hypotheses which are vital to the arithmetic study of special values of certain L-functions via modular symbols.

Abstract:Let be a cuspidal, cohomological automorphic representation of an inner form G of over a number field F of arbitrary signature. Further, let be a prime of F such that G is split at and the local component of at is the Steinberg representation. Assuming that the representation is noncritical at , we construct automorphic -invariants for the representation . If the number field F is totally real, we show that these automorphic -invariants agree with the Fontaine–Mazur -invariant of the associated p-adic Galois representation. This generalizes a recent result of Spieß respectively Rosso and the first named author from the case of parallel weight to arbitrary cohomological weights.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group with an involution σ on it. Let H be an open subgroup of Gσ with a character χ on it. Associated to a “theta stable”, “σ-split” parabolic subalgebra, and using the Zuckerman functor, we construct representations of G together with χ-equivariant linear functionals on them. We apply this construction to prove a non-vanishing hypothesis of H. Grobner and A. Raghuram in the study of algebraicity of critical L-values.

Abstract:We compute L2-invariants of certain nonuniform lattices in semisimple Lie groups by means of the Borel-Serre compactification of arithmetically defined locally symmetric spaces. The main results give new estimates for Novikov-Shubin numbers and vanishing L2-torsion for lattices in groups with even deficiency. We discuss applications to Gromov's Zero-in-the-Spectrum Conjecture as well as to a proportionality conjecture for the L2-torsion of measure equivalent groups.

Abstract:We introduce equivariant L-genera associated to actions of Galois and related groups on algebraic varieties. We explain the role which these L-genera play in the spectral analysis of Eisenstein series. We also discuss the natural categorification of L-genera and its potential role in enumerative geometry.

It is well-known that their corresponding Iwasawa $\lambda$-invariants may vary. In this paper, we study this variation from a quantitative perspective, providing lower bounds on the frequency with which these $\lambda$-invariants grow or remain stable.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a variety (possibly non-complete or singular) over a finitely generated field $k$ of characteristic $0$. For a prime number $\ell$, let $\rho_\ell$ be the Galois representation on the first $\ell$-adic cohomology of $X$. We show that if $\ell$ varies the image of $\rho_\ell$ is of bounded index in the group of $\mathbb{Z}_\ell$-points of its Zariski closure. We use this to improve a recent result of Litt about arithmetic representations of geometric fundamental groups. Litt's result says that there exist constants $N = N(X,\ell)$ such that every arithmetic representation $\pi_1(X_{\bar{k}}) \to \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{Z}_\ell)$ that is trivial modulo $\ell^N$ is unipotent. We show that these constants can in fact be chosen independently of $\ell$.

On modular representations of inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a local non-archimedean field

Abstract:Let $\mathrm{F}$ be a local non-archimedean field of residue characteristic $p$ and $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ an algebraic closure of a finite field of characteristic $\ell \neq p$. We extend the results of Lapid and Mínguez concerning $\square$-irreducible representations of inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathrm{F})$ to representations over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$. As applications, we compute the Godement-Jacquet $L$-factor for any smooth irreducible representation over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ and show that the local factors of a representation agree with the ones of its $\mathrm{C}$-parameter defined by Kurinczuk and Matringe. Moreover, we reprove that the classification of irreducible representations via multisegments due to Vignéras and Mínguez-Sécherre is indeed exhaustive without using the classification of Ariki and Mathas of simple modules of Hecke algebras. Finally, we characterize the irreducible constituents of certain parabolically induced representations, as was already done by Zelevinsky over $\mathbb{C}$.

Abstract:We generalize a fundamental theorem on positive matrix semigroups stating that each component is either strictly positive for all times or identically zero ("Lévy's Theorem"). Our proof of this fact that does not require the matrices to be continuous at time zero. We also provide a formulation of this theorem in the terminology of positive operator semigroups on sequence spaces.

Modular invariance of (logarithmic) intertwining operators

Abstract:Let $V$ be a $C_2$-cofinite vertex operator algebra without nonzero elements of negative weights. We prove the conjecture that the spaces spanned by analytic extensions of pseudo-$q$-traces ($q=e^{2\pi i\tau}$) shifted by $-\frac{c}{24}$ of products of geometrically-modified (logarithmic) intertwining operators among grading-restricted generalized $V$-modules are invariant under modular transformations. The convergence and analytic extension result needed to formulate this conjecture and some consequences on such shifted pseudo-$q$-traces were proved by Fiordalisi in [F1] and [F2] using the method developed in [H2]. The method that we use to prove this conjecture is based on the theory of the associative algebras $A^{N}(V)$ for $N\in \mathbb{N}$, their graded modules and their bimodules introduced and studied by the author in [H8] and [H9]. This modular invariance result gives a construction of $C_2$-cofinite genus-one logarithmic conformal field theories from the corresponding genus-zero logarithmic conformal field theories.

Stability of $L^2-$invariants on stratified spaces

Abstract:Let $\overline{M}$ be a compact smoothly stratified pseudo-manifold endowed with a wedge metric $g$. Let $\overline{M}_\Gamma$ be a Galois $\Gamma$-covering. Under additional assumptions on $\overline{M}$, satisfied for example by Witt pseudo-manifolds, we show that the $L^2$-Betti numbers and the Novikov-Shubin invariants are well defined. We then establish their invariance under a smoothly stratified, strongly stratum preserving homotopy equivalence, thus extending results of Dodziuk, Gromov and Shubin to these pseudo-manifolds.

Abstract:Let be an inner form of a general linear group over a non-Archimedean local field. We fix an arbitrary irreducible representation of . Building on the work of Lapid-Mínguez on the irreducibility of parabolic inductions, we show how to define a full subcategory of the category of smooth representations of some , on which the parabolic induction functor is fully-faithful. A key ingredient of our proof for the fully-faithfulness is constructions of indecomposable representations of length 2. Such result for a special situation has been previously applied in proving the local non-tempered Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for non-Archimedean general linear groups. In this article, we apply the fully-faithful result to prove a certain big derivative arising from Jacquet functor satisfies the property that its socle is irreducible and has multiplicity one in the Jordan-Hölder sequence of the big derivative.

A general Greenlees-May splitting principle

Abstract:In equivariant topology, Greenlees and May used Mackey functors to show that, rationally, the stable homotopy category of $G$-spectra over a finite group $G$ splits as a product of simpler module categories. We extend the algebraic part (also independently proved by Thévenaz and Webb) of this classical result to Mackey modules over an arbitrary Green functor, and use the case of the complex representation ring Green functor to obtain an algebraic model of the rational equivariant Kasparov category of $G$-cell algebras.

Abstract:Let G be a higher rank semisimple linear algebraic group over a non-Archimedean local field. The simplicial complexes corresponding to any sequence of pairwise non-conjugate irreducible lattices in G are Benjamini–Schramm convergent to the Bruhat–Tits building. Convergence of the relative Plancherel measures and normalized Betti numbers follows. This extends the work (Abert et al. in Ann Math 185(3):711–790, 2017) from real Lie groups to linear groups over arbitrary local fields. Along the way, various results concerning Invariant Random Subgroups and in particular a variant of the classical Borel density theorem are also extended.

Abstract:Let K denote a simply connected compact Lie group and let G denote its complexification. It is known that there exists an LK-biinvariant probability measure on a natural completion of the complex loop group LG. It is believed that there exist deformations which are positive line bundle valued and reproduce the unitary structure for (projective) positive energy representations of LK. These are notes which supplement lectures I have given on these measures, explaining a number of conjectures concerning how these measures are characterized, how they are computed, and how they are potentially useful for formulating quantum sigma models.

Abstract:Suppose V is a finite dimensional, complex vector space, A is a finite set of codimension one subspaces of V, and G is a finite subgroup of the general linear group GL(V) that permutes the hyperplanes in A. In this paper we study invariants and semi-invariants in the graded QG-module H^*(M(A)), where M(A) denotes the complement in V of the hyperplanes in A and H^*( . ) denotes rational singular cohomology, in the case when A is a reflection arrangement and the pair (A,G) arises from a reflection coset. Our main result is the construction of an explicit, natural (from the point of view of Coxeter groups) basis of the space of invariants, H^*(M(A))^G. In addition to leading to a proof of the description of the space of invariants conjectured by Felder and Veselov for Coxeter groups that does not rely on computer calculations, this construction provides an extension of this description of the space of invariants to arbitrary finite, complex reflection groups. The main result also leads to simplifications of some cohomology computations of Lehrer, Callegaro-Marin, and Marin.

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the fundamental theorem of algebraic K-theory for Verdier-localizing functors by extending the proof for algebraic K-theory of spaces to the realm of stable $\infty$-categories. The formula behaves much better for Karoubi-localizing functors, the Verdier-localizing invariants which are additionally invariant under idempotent completion. This general fundamental theorem specializes to new formulas in the context of non-connective K-theory, topological Hochschild homology and topological cyclic homology as well as connective K-theory of arbitrary ring spectra, and generalizes several known formulas for algebraic K-theory of spaces or connective K-theory of ordinary rings, schemes and $\mathbb{S}$-algebras.
