Abstract:Two novel alkaline earth zincophosphites, namely CaZn(HPO3)2 and Ba2Zn(HPO3)3, were successfully synthesized using hydrothermal conditions. CaZn(HPO3)2 exhibits a three-dimensional (3D) anionic framework with a 6-connect uni-node topology of pcu α-Po primitive cubic, constructed by unique Zn2O8 dimers and HPO3 pseudo-tetrahedra, while Ba2Zn(HPO3)3 displays one-dimensional (1D) [Zn(HPO3)3]4- anionic chains. It is worth mentioning that CaZn(HPO3)2 represents the first example of an alkaline earth zincophosphite compound with a 3D framework structure. Our research also revealed the importance of both alkaline earth cation sizes and Zn/P ratios in anionic open-framework formation. The crystal structures of both compounds were further verified by energy dispersive spectroscopy, IR and Raman spectra. Optical diffuse reflectance spectra, coupled with Tauc's fitting, revealed direct bandgaps with energy values of 4.33 and 4.48 eV for CaZn(HPO3)2 and Ba2Zn(HPO3)3, respectively, which differs from the prediction of theoretical calculations. Density of states calculation were conducted to reveal the origin of the bandgaps and bond interactions. Both compounds exhibited moderate birefringence values. This work may have implications for the design and synthesis of novel metal phosphites with desired properties.

Abstract:By a vapor phase transport synthesis method, the aluminophosphate solid gel has been transformed into a 3-dimensional aluminophosphate framework under pyridine atmosphere. It's structure was solved by X-ray single crystal diffraction, which shows that the compound [Al3P3O12F][C5H5NH]center dot 0.2H(2)O crystallizes in a triclinic system, space group P-1(2) with cell parameters a=9.127(2) angstrom, b=9.185(3)degrees, c= 9.346(2) angstrom, alpha=85.563(14)degrees, beta=77.346(6)degrees, gamma=89.628(17)degrees, V=762.2(4) angstrom(3), Z=2, D-c=2.074 Mg/m(3), M-r=468.09, F(000)=474 and mu=0.64 mm(-1). Its structure is identical to that of the previously reported compound UT-6, the fluorine ions as a component of starting gel are introduced into the framework and bridge the Al atoms, and the independent 8-ring channels in the framework are interconnected to constitute cage structures analogous to AlPO4-CHA zeolite-like. The results from XRD and TG-DTA analyses indicate that the sample has higher thermal stability, and its framework structure is intact after calcination at 400 degrees C.

Abstract:Two new organically templated zinc phosphites, [tmpip]0.5[Zn2(HPO3)2(H2PO3)] (1) and [dmdabco][Zn3(HPO3)4]·(H2O) (2), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions, where tmpip=N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl-piperazinium and dmdabco=N,N′-dimethyl-1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane. Note that the templating agents tmpip2+ and dmdabco2+ originated from in situ N-methylation transformations between CH3OH solvent and corresponding cyclic aliphatic amine precursors, i.e. piperazine, 1-methylpiperazine or 1,4-dimethylpiperazine in 1, and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane in 2. Distinct from conventional Eschweiler–Clarke methylation with excess formic acid and formaldehyde, such direct methylation transformation from methanol molecules is unique. Compound 1 consists of ZnO4 tetrahedra, HPO3 and HPO2(OH) pseudopyramids, exhibiting a complex double layered structure with 12-ring windows. Compound 2 is constructed from strictly alternating ZnO4 tetrahedra and HPO3 pseudopyramids, and possesses a (3,4)-connected interrupted architecture with intersecting 8- and 12-ring channels.

Abstract:A series of syntheses in the HF–ZrO2–P2O5–pyridine–H2O system have been performed in an attempt to synthesize novel materials with open zirconium phosphate framework structures. One of the resulting products, designated ZrPOF–pyr (∣(C5H6N)4(H2O)2∣[Zr12P16O60(OH)4F8]), has been characterized by XRD, SEM and TG-DTA, and its crystal structure determined from powder diffraction data using direct methods (Pnnm, a=19.1595(2)Å, b=15.1428(1)Å, c=6.61804(6)Å). The framework structure, consisting of corner sharing ZrO6, ZrO5F, ZrO4F2 octahedra and PO4 and PO3OH tetrahedra, proved to be identical to that of ∣(C5H16N2)2(H2O)6∣[Zr12P16O60(OH)4F8], which had been reported previously. In both structures, the terminal P–OH group is disordered. The non-framework species (pyridinium ion and water molecule) could be located in the channels of the framework. Structure solution was also performed using a charge-flipping algorithm, which makes no symmetry assumptions, to verify that the P–OH disorder is inherent to the material and not a result of an incorrectly assumed space group. The phase is thermally stable to 450°C, but transforms to another phase at higher temperatures.

Abstract:An open-frame aluminophosphate, K[(Zn0.5Al0.5)2P2O8] (KZAPO), was rationally designed by a substitution design strategy and synthesized by a high-temperature molten salt method. Compared with the parent crystal of K[ZnBP2O8], KZAPO was characterized by similar 4 × 8 × 8 networks, a comparable short-wave ultraviolet transparency and a more regular tetrahedral frame with the mixing of (ZnO4)6– and (AlO4)5– anionic groups, highlighting the multifunctional roles that anionic group mixing played in structural and property modulations. Abstract:Introducing cobalt into a Zn-P-O-amine system and using oxalates as starting materials, an amine containing open-framework cobalt zincophosphate, [C4N2H12][Co0.14Zn1.86(PO4)(H1.5PO4)(2)] (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally determined. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c (No. 15) with cell parameters a = 13.374(3) Angstrom, b = 12.827(3) Angstrom, c = 8.1940(16) Angstrom, beta = 94.77(3)degrees, V = 1400.9(5) Angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-cal = 2.399 g cm(-3). The linkages of ZnO4 and PO4 give rise to four-membered rings, which serve as the secondary building unit for compound 1. The four-membered rings (four-MR) share their corners leading to chains. Connection of these chains results in a complex three-dimensional channel system. Eight-MR, twelve-MR and highly distorted twelve-MR channels can be observed along the [010], [110] and [101] directions, respectively. The prominent feature of compound 1 is the clover-like 16-MR channel along the [001] direction. The channel spaces are occupied by the diprotonated piperazine molecules with H-bonds to the framework.

Abstract:Four new phosphites/phosphates, namely Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ](H 2 O), Al[(HPO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)], Ca[HPO 3 ] and Al 3 P 6 O 19.5 , were designed and synthesized by low temperature flux methods. They crystallized in P 6 3 mc , P , P 4 3 2 1 2, and P 6 3 / m space groups, respectively. The basic units of Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ](H 2 O), Al[(HPO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)] and Ca[HPO 3 ] are composed of [PO 3 ] 3− or/and [AlO 6 ] 9− groups, whereas the structure of Al 3 P 6 O 19.5 is built from [PO 4 ] 3− tetrahedra and [AlO 6 ] 9− octahedra. The structure of Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ](H 2 O) features a two-dimensional (2D) layered motif of Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ]. Meanwhile, Al[(HPO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)] has high porosity and relatively large channels, and has an excellent molecular sieve structure. Both Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ](H 2 O) and Al[(HPO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)] display deep ultraviolet (UV) cut-off edges of ∼195 nm and ∼193 nm. The three-dimensional (3D) structure of Al 3 P 6 O 19.5 is formed by [Al 2 O 9 ] dimers connected with six PO 4 tetrahedra, and one PO 4 tetrahedron linked three [Al 2 O 9 ] dimers alternately. Importantly, Ca[HPO 3 ] shows a moderate second harmonic generation (SHG) effect with a short UV cut-off edge of ∼192 nm in the deep-UV region. The syntheses and topological structures of Al[P 2 O 3 (OH) 3 ](H 2 O), Al[(HPO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)], Ca[HPO 3 ] and Al 3 P 6 O 19.5 , together with some related properties, such as nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, elemental analysis, thermal stability, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, are also discussed.

Abstract:By using the hydrothermal method, a new large-pore three dimensional aluminophosphate Al9(PO)12(C24H81N16)·17H2O has been synthesized. The compound crystallizes in the cubic space group I-43m with a=16.7963(13) Å, V=4738.5(6) Å3, and Z=2. The P/Al ratio of this compound is 4:3 and the structure consists of Al-centered and P-centered tetrahedra in which all the AlO4 tetrahedra vertices and three of PO4 tetrahedra corners are shared. The framework contains unique 12-membered ring channels, which intersect each other with 12-membered ring windows in three dimensions, and almost spherical cavities, in which water and amine ions are located. The window containing three P=O groups selectively interacts with 4-(2-aminoethyl)diethylenetriamine by the effect of recognition in the hydrothermal condition. The compound could exist up to 260°C. At higher temperature, the amine was decomposed and released, and the compound was transferred into amorphous phase. The component Al of the compound can be partly substituted with other elements, such as Sn, Zn, Mg, Co, Mn, and Cd, by which the charge of the framework can be adjusted.

Abstract:A new two-dimensional aluminophosphate layer [Al2P3O10(OH)2][C6NH 8] (compound 1) has been prepared from an alcoholic system using 4-methylpyridine (C6NH7) as a template. The as-synthesized product is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, dynamic thermogravimetric, and 31P-, 27Al-, and 13C magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR analyses. The structure has been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/c (no. 14), with a = 8.686 (3) Å, b = 21.240 (3) Å, c = 8.799 (2) Å, β = 113.23 (3)°, and Z = 4. The inorganic layers are constructed from alternating aluminum units (AlO4 and AlO5) and phosphorus units [PO4, PO3(OH), PO2(=O)(OH)] and are featured by rows of edge-sharing bridged six-membered rings (6MRs) and zigzag four rings (4MRs). The layers are held with each other through strong H-bondings between the terminal oxygens attached to the 2-connected phosphate groups in adjacent layers. The organic ammonium cations (C6NH8 +) are located in the large cavities between the interlayer regions. The structural features and relationships in the anionic aluminophosphates with Al2P3O12 3- stoichiometry, including compound 1 and previously reported compounds, are discussed. Furthermore, new two-dimensional (2-D) networks have been proposed on the basis of the discovered building rules for aluminophosphates with Al2P3O12 3- stoichiometry.

Abstract:The first anionic aluminophosphate molecular sieve [Al12P13O52]3-[(CH2)6N4H3]3+, denoted AlPO-CJB1, which possesses Brönsted acidity upon removing the templates, is reported. The framework is constructed from strict alternation of Al-centered polyhedra (AlO4 and AlO5) and P-centered PO4 tetrahedra by sharing oxygen atoms at vertices, which creates the anionic open-framework in contrast to previous AlPO4-n with neutral open-frameworks.

Abstract:Two novel phosphonate compounds, (Cu2CuII)-Cu-I[(3-C5H4N)CH(OH)PO3](2) (1) and Zn[(3-C5H4N)CH(OH)PO3] ( 2), have been synthesized by solvothermal reactions of the corresponding metal salts with [hydroxy(3-pyridyl)methyl]phosphonic acid. Compound 1 contains inorganic chains made up of (CuO4)-O-II planes and CPO3 tetrahedra through corner sharing. These chains are connected by (CuON)-O-I units through pyridine rings, forming a 3D open framework structure. Compound 2 adopts a new type of pillared layered structure. The inorganic layer contains 8- and 16-membered rings made up of ZnO3N and CPO3 tetrahedra. Pyridine rings are fixed between the inorganic layers through covalent bonds. The magnetic study shows that weak ferromagnetic interactions are mediated between magnetic centers in compound 1.

Abstract:Six zinc phosphonocarboxylate hybrid materials, namely, Zn-2(pbC)(2)center dot 2Hdma center dot DMF center dot H2O (1), Zn-2(pbc)(2)center dot H(2)teta center dot H2O (2), Zn(pbc) center dot H3O (3), Zn-4(pbc)(3) center dot HTEA (4), Zn-3(pbc)(2)(en)(2) (5), and Zn-3(pbc)(2)(H2O) (6) (H(3)pbc = 4-phosphono-benzoic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, dma = dimethylamine, teta = triethylene tetramine, TEA = triethylamine, en = ethylenediamine) have been synthesized using organic amines as structure-directing agents under mixed-solvothermal condition. These new compounds have been characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction together with infrared (IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). In structures I and 2, the double crankshaft chains constructed by the corner-sharing of ZnO4 and CPO3 tetrahedra are cross-linked by the organic moieties of the ligands into three-dimensional (3-D) structures with GIS (gismondine) and GIS-related zeolite topologies. In structure 3, the connectivity between ZnO4 and CPO3 results in inorganic (4.6.12) sheets, which are pillared by the benzoic acid group -C6H5-COO- into a 3-D open framework structure with zeolitic SOD (sodalite) topology. Structures 4-6 are pillar-layered structures where the Zn-O-P layers show different configuration due to the directing effect from different organic amines and solvents employed during the synthesis. The results show that the amines and organic solvents acting as structure-directing agents along with control of reaction condition are effective in achieving varieties of zinc phosphonocarboxylate structures.
Exceptional chemical and thermal stability of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks

Abstract:Twelve zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs; termed ZIF-1 to -12) have been synthesized as crystals by copolymerization of either Zn(II) (ZIF-1 to -4, -6 to -8, and -10 to -11) or Co(II) (ZIF-9 and -12) with imidazolate-type links. The ZIF crystal structures are based on the nets of seven distinct aluminosilicate zeolites: tetrahedral Si(Al) and the bridging O are replaced with transition metal ion and imidazolate link, respectively. In addition, one example of mixed-coordination imidazolate of Zn(II) and In(III) (ZIF-5) based on the garnet net is reported. Study of the gas adsorption and thermal and chemical stability of two prototypical members, ZIF-8 and -11, demonstrated their permanent porosity (Langmuir surface area = 1,810 m 2 /g), high thermal stability (up to 550°C), and remarkable chemical resistance to boiling alkaline water and organic solvents.

Tubular aluminophosphate mesoporous materials containing framework silicon, vanadium and manganese

Abstract:Aluminophosphate-based tubular mesoporous materials containing framework silicon, vanadium and manganese have been successfully synthesized. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy reveal that these solid products possess disordered arrays of tubular mesoporous channels which mimic the hexagonal MCM-41 structure. N-2 adsorption further suggests that these materials are relatively thermally stable, have an average free mesopore diameter of 35 Angstrom and have high BET specific surface areas up to 700 m(2)/g. Electron probe microanalysis reveals that the overall P/Al ratio of these materials is less than unity and Al-27 and P-31 MAS NMR shows that both tetrahedral and octahedral aluminum occur as well as tetrahedral phosphorous and hydroxylated phosphorus species, indicating a nonideal aluminophosphate framework. Incorporation of silicon results in a less disordered mesoporous structure and substantial increases in the relative amounts of tetrahedral aluminum and tetrahedral phosphorus. Transition metal ions can be incorporated up to V/Al = 0.10 for vanadium and Mn/Al = 0.20 for manganese. Electron spin resonance and diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies reveal that both vanadium and manganese are present as isolated species and suggest framework locations for these ions.

Abstract:Three zinc phosphonocarboxylates, Zn2(pbc)2 x Hdma x H3O x 2 H2O (1), Zn(pbc) x Hdma (2), and Zn4.5(pbc)3(OH)(H2O)0.5 x Hdma (3) (H3pbc = 4-phosphonobenzoic acid, dma = dimethylamine) were synthesized by the mixed solvothermal reaction of Zn(Ac)2 x 2 H2O and 4-phosphonobenzoic acid in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and water. The zigzag and ladderlike chains completely constructed by triply fused 4-membered rings (denoted SBU-1) are linked by the organic moieties to form the 3D zeolite-like structure 1 and the layered structure 2, respectively. As for structure 3, a new second building unit (SBU-2) formed by the inset of the [Zn3O12] trimer into the 4-membered ring as well as SBU-1 is observed. The connections between the two types of SBUs lead to a "zinc phosphate" layer, which is linked by the organic groups to generate a 3D pillar-layered structure. Both solution-mediated and solid-state transformations of 1 to 2 and 3 were observed. A possible mechanism for the transformation is proposed. Gas sorption studies show that 1 has accessible pores for methanol and water and exhibits size selectivity for alcohols.
