Abstract:A simple palladium(II)-catalyzed intramolecular addition of vinylpalladium species to ketones initiated by the carbopalladation of alkynamides under mild conditions without a Pd(II)/Pd(0) redox system was developed. Abstract:Alkynylcyclopropanes have been used for the first time as coupling partners in transition-metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization. Specifically, a Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed regioselective annulation of alkynylcyclopropanes with N-aryloxyamides via redox-neutral C-H/C-C activation has been developed, which affords highly functionalized 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans bearing an (E)-exocyclic carbon-carbon double bond and a tetra-substituted carbon center in moderate to good yields with a broad substrate scope.

Abstract:Alkynyloxiranes have been employed for the first time as effective coupling partners in Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions. Their annulation with N-aryloxyamides then offers a redox-neutral and efficient synthesis of functionalized 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans bearing an exocyclic E-allylic alcohol and a tetrasubstituted carbon center in good yields with a broad substrate scope. The products can be easily converted to molecules with more complexity, which provides an opportunity for rapid assembly of structurally diverse heterocycles.

Abstract:Diastereo- and enantioselective N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed 1-azadiene Diels-Alder reactions of (E)-2-styrylbenzothiazoles with α-chloro aldehydes are reported. This annulation strategy provides an efficient access to medicinally important dihydrobenzothiazolopyridin-1-ones in good to excellent yields (44-97%) with very good to excellent stereoselectivities (up to 9:1 dr, 98% ee) and tolerates quite a range of substituents.

Abstract:An unprecedented Pd(II)-catalyzed annulation reaction is developed for the synthesis of cyclopenta[b]chromane derivatives bearing tertiary hydroxyl group. In this reaction, readily available 2-(2-nitrovinyl)phenols are annulated with two molecules of disubstituted alkynes via denitration to afford a wide range of the annulated products. Additionally, one novel In(III)-catalyzed dehydroxylative 1,2-phenyl shift reaction is also performed on some of the synthesized chromane derivatives to afford cyclopentenones.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed asymmetric Markovnikov hydroaminocarbonylation of alkenes with anilines has been developed for the atom-economical synthesis of 2-substituted propanamides bearing an α-stereocenter. A novel phosphoramidite ligand L16 was discovered which exhibited very high reactivity and selectivity in the reaction. This asymmetric Markovnikov hydroaminocarbonylation employs readily available starting materials and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, thus providing a facile and straightforward method for the regio- and enantioselective synthesis of 2-substituted propanamides under ambient conditions. Mechanistic studies revealed that the reaction proceeds through a palladium hydride pathway.
