Abstract:A feasible and umpolung strategy for the synthesis of structurally diverse β‐amino ketones has been achieved through TEMPO mediated C‐N coupling of cyclopropanols with nitrogen nucleophiles. Mechanism studies indicated that in situ generated enones derived from cyclopropanols are the key intermediates and TEMPO play multiple roles, including radical initiator, trapping reagent, a porter of β‐hydrogen and an in situ base. This protocol features broad substrate scope, good scalability and good to excellent yields and provides an alternative and complementary approach to the synthesis of structurally important β‐amino ketone scaffolds under metal and additive‐free conditions.

Abstract:A late-stage, green and practical preparation of 6-( ortho -nitroaryl) amino purine derivatives was reported by using t -BuONO as the nitrating agent without transition-metal catalysts under air conditions. Abstract:A metal-free and sustainable visible-light-mediated method for the preparation of organic nitrate esters has been developed through the aerobic nitrooxylation reaction of α-diazoesters and cyclic ethers with t-BuONO in the presence of dioxygen. This protocol provides an efficient approach to access nitrate esters with the advantages of clean energy, broad substrate scope, green oxidants, operational simplicity, and mild conditions.

Abstract:The chemoselective catalytic reduction of nitro scaffolds to value-added amine functions is desirable but challenging. We developed a combined KOtBu/BEt3 catalyst for deoxygenative reduction of nitroarenes, nitro heteroarenes and even notoriously challenging nitroalkanes using pinacolborane under mild reaction conditions. The novel transition-metal-free strategy is readily applicable to the preparation of commercially available pharmaceuticals.

Abstract:A new method for direct synthesis of β-ketoenamines was developed by a BF3·OEt2-catalyzed cyclization of 1-iodoalkyne and α-keto acid followed by an amine-mediated ring-opening in one pot. Its metal-free conditions allowed the easy synthesis of those products bearing the transition metal-sensitive functional groups. Its three-component process achieved wide range of functionalized products.

Abstract:A metal-free aerobic autoxidative nitrooxylation of alkenyl oximes mediated by tert-butyl nitrite is described. Molecular oxygen is used as the oxidizing reagent, avoiding use of organic trapping reagents such as 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPO). The desired products were obtained in generally high yields.

Abstract:An efficient copper(II)/tert-butyl hydroperoxide catalyst system [(Bpy)Cu(II)/TBHP] for the aminoxylation of different types of hydrocarbons under mild and ambient air conditions has been developed to furnish N-alkoxyamine derivatives in good to high yields. Ketones, esters, nitriles, toluene, ethylbenzene, heterocycles, cyclohexene, and cyclohexanes are well compatible in this system and the catalyst loading could be lowered to 0.5 mol%.

Abstract:Dearomatization reactions of phenols and their derivatives have evolved as efficient and practical methods for the synthesis of functionalized spirocyclic enones in the past decades. Here, an efficient metal-free intramolecular dearomatization cyclization of readily available naphthol-ynamides has been developed, enabling practical, atom-economical and divergent access to two azaspirocyclic compounds in mostly good to excellent yields with wide substrate scope. Moreover, such a catalytic asymmetric dearomatization reaction has also been achieved by employing chiral Brønsted acid as catalyst.

Abstract:We here describe a new palladium-catalyzed oxidative 6-exo-trig cyclization of 1,6-enynes at room temperature using tBuONO as an oxidant for the synthesis of 3-bicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-5-ones. This cascade strategy involves the hydration, cyclization and cyclopropanation sequence, and represents a new transition-metal-catalyzed oxidative cyclization of 1,6-enynes in a 6-exo-trig fashion.

Abstract:A novel strategy to synthesize 1,3-enynes has been successfully developed based on Cu(I)-catalyzed cross-coupling of α-diazo phosphonates and alkynes with a subsequent Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) type reaction. This method provides straightforward access to conjugated enynes with high efficiency, good stereoselectivity and excellent functional group compatibility. Copper(I) carbene migratory insertion plays a crucial role in this transformation.

Abstract:C-N bond formation is crucial for the preparation of synthetic organic nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds. This work provides a facile and highly efficient strategy (ca. similar to 92 %) for the synthesis of quinazoline compounds, which involves tandem C-H/N-H bond functionalization using metal-free conditions without the need for an external oxidant. Meanwhile, the reaction system exhibits good functional group tolerance and a wide substrate scope. Furthermore, our corresponding isotope tracking experiments have shown that dimethyl sulfoxide acts as a carbon source. Finally, this work affords a new strategy toward the further design and synthesis of heteroaromatic rings.

Abstract:A straightforward synthesis of azaheterocycles has been developed through electrochemically aerobic oxidation cyclization using a user-friendly undivided electrolytic cell at room temperature under catalyst-free conditions. This green and practical electrosynthesis strategy features good functional group, diverse electronic and steric properties tolerance. On the basis of a series of mechanistic investigations, including isotope labeling, singlet oxygen inhibiting, superoxide radical anion inhibiting, radical-trapping, cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis experiments, a possible N-centered radical-initiated mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:The cyanation of arylboronic acids by using acetonitrile as the "CN" source has been achieved under a Cu(cat.)/TEMPO system (TEMPO=2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine N-oxide). The broad substrate scope includes a variety of electron-rich and electron-poor arylboronic acids, which react well to give the cyanated products in high to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies reveal that TEMPO-CH2 CN, generated in situ, is an active cyanating reagent, and shows high reactivity for the formation of the CN(-) moiety. Moreover, TEMPO acts as a cheap oxidant to enable the reaction to be catalytic in copper.

Abstract:The copper powder‐mediated tandem hydroamination cyclization‐hydrocyanation of alkyne‐tethered ketoximes is described by using TMSCN as the commercially available cyanating reagent. This methodology provides an alternative strategy for the synthesis of a series of structurally important cyano‐substituted cyclic nitrones. The hydrocyanation process exhibits distinct regioselectivity depending on the substituent pattern of the alkyne moiety. Moreover, the synthesized products were shown to be capable of undergoing various derivatization reactions.

Abstract:The first chemo- and site-selective process for the formation of N-aryl-carbamates from cyclic organic carbonates and aromatic amines is reported. The reactions proceed smoothly under extremely mild reaction conditions using TBD (triazabicyclodecene) as an effective and cheap organocatalyst, thus providing a sustainable and new methodology for the formation of a wide variety of useful N-aryl carbamate synthons in good to excellent yields. Computational investigations have been performed and show the underlying reason for the observed unique reactivity as related to an effective proton-relay mechanism mediated by the bicyclic guanidine base.
