Abstract:A highly efficient method for the selective formal C–H/C–H cross-coupling of azoles and (hetero)arenes was established through arylsulfonium intermediates under transition-metal catalysis, which produced a variety of 2-(hetero)aryl azoles in good to excellent yields. Abstract:The cobalt-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling of (benz)oxazoles and ethers is described. Access to some important bioactive heteroaryl ether derivatives was achieved using CoCO3 as an inexpensive catalyst at levels as low as 1.0 mol %. Investigation of the mechanism indicates a catalytic cycle involving a radical process.

Abstract:The transition metal-catalyzed C–H bond functionalization of azoles has emerged as one of the most important strategies to decorate these biologically important scaffolds. Despite significant progress in the C–H functionalization of various heteroarenes, the regioselective alkylation and alkenylation of azoles are still arduous transformations in many cases. This review covers recent advances in the direct C–H alkenylation, alkylation and alkynylation of azoles utilizing transition metal-catalysis. Moreover, the limitations of different strategies, chemoselectivity and regioselectivity issues will be discussed in this review.
