Abstract:The cleavage of both sp(2) C-H and C-N bonds by a nickel-catalyzed reaction of aromatic amides containing an 8-aminoquinoline moiety with benzyl ammonium salts is reported. A wide variety of functional groups are tolerated in the reaction. Preliminary mechanistic investigations indicate that the reaction probably proceeds through a Ni-I/Ni-III catalytic pathway. This Ni-catalyzed procedure provides an alternative approach to construct diarylmethane derivatives.

Abstract:2-Alkynylanilines are attractive starting materials in indole synthesis because of their ready availability. Herein, a one-pot stepwise procedure is reported for efficient construction of multisubstituted oxocino[4,3,2-cd]indoles from 2-alkynylanilines and 2-alkynylbenzaldoximes. The method comprises the oxidative dearomatization of 2-alkynylanilines, the silver-catalyzed [3+3] cycloaddition with 2-alkynylbenzaldoximes, and subsequent thermal radical skeletal rearrangement and aromatization.

Abstract:[Cp*RhIII]-catalyzed annulation of tertiary aniline N-oxides with alkynes was reported to achieve the challenging ortho C–H functionalization of tertiary anilines via N–O bond acting as a traceless directing group. More significantly, this system represents the first example which integrates C–H activation, oxygen-atom transfer, and N-dealkylative cyclization in one reaction. This unprecedented coupling reaction has allowed the construction of N-alkylindole derivatives in high efficiency with broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:A nickel-catalyzed asymmetric reductive [3 + 2] annulation of o-haloaromatic β-alkenyl ketones with alkynes through alkyne dicarbofunctionalization and alkene isomerization cascades is disclosed, enabling the formation of highly enantiomerically enriched 1-alkenyl 1H-inden-1-ols that possess an important stereogenic quaternary carbon and an active alkene unit. Abstract:The development of sustainable protocols for the synthesis of alkylated heteroarenes is crucial owing to their widespread existence in medicinally relevant and bioactive natural products. Herein, we describe an efficient, additive‐ and solvent‐free approach for the regioselective C−H alkylation of indoles and azoles with alkenes using a nickel catalyst, which proceeds through a chelation‐assistance strategy. The reaction exclusively provided branched alkylated products with the compatibility of alkyl, alkoxy, fluoro, trifluoromethyl, alkene, cyano, ester, and carbonyl groups. This protocol is applicable to other heteroarenes, such as imidazoles and benzimidazoles, providing the desired alkylated products with exclusive Markovnikov selectivity. The synthetic utility and scale‐up of the reaction are demonstrated, and the protocol is in concord with the principles of green chemistry. Alkylation proceeds through facile and reversible C−H nickelation and alkene insertion processes, presumably involving rate‐limiting reductive elimination.

Abstract:A NiH-catalyzed migratory hydroalkenylation reaction of olefins with alkenyl bromides has been developed, affording benzylic alkenylation products with high yields and excellent chemoselectivity. The mild conditions of the reaction preclude olefinic products from undergoing further isomerization or subsequent alkenylation. Catalytic enantioselective hydroalkenylation of styrenes was achieved by using a chiral bisoxazoline ligand.

Abstract:A Rh(I)‐catalyzed chelation‐assisted C2‐selective C−H decarbonylative alkylation of indoles with readily available, cheap, safe and structurally diverse alkyl carboxylic acids or anhydrides has been developed. A wide variety of primary and secondary alkyl carboxylic acids and differently substituted indoles are compatible with this transformation, allowing facile synthesis of various C2‐alkylated indoles with high efficiency and broad tolerance of diverse functional groups. The reaction proceeds in the absence of any external oxidant, and the presence of readily installable and removable N‐pyrimidyl directing group is critical for catalysis. The process is convenient and scalable, and avoids the use of a dried solvent and an inert atmosphere. Moreover, selective C7‐alkylation and C2, C7‐dialkylation have also been achieved by slightly modifying the reaction conditions.
