Abstract:2,4-Bis(phenyl)-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woollins' reagent) reacts with benzoic hydrazides in refluxing toluene to give new symmetrical spiro heterocycles in 48-76% isolated yields. However, under identical conditions, treating Woollins' reagent with thiophene-2-carbohydrazide leads to an additional product, 1,3,4-selenadiazole (27% yield) together with the spiro phosphorus heterocycle in 44% yield. Abstract:The reaction of 2,4-bis(phenyl)-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woollins' Reagent, WR) with phenylalkylcyanamides (RR'NC[triple bond, length as m-dash]N, R = PhCH2CH2, R' = CH3 and R = PhCH2CH2CH2, R' = H) in refluxing toluene led to novel heterocyclic selenazadiphospholaminediselenides and (43% and 42% yields), the latter being hydrolyzed to the unusual zwitterionic carbamidoyl(phenyl)phosphinodiselenoic acids and in excellent yields (96% and 98%).

Abstract:The reaction of hydrazide with carbonyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonates leads to the corresponding 1,2-diacylhydrazines vertical bar 1a-t, (RC)-C-1(O)NHNHC(O)R-2, R-1 = aryl, R-2 = or alkyl vertical bar in moderate to excellent yield (57-90%). The latter reacts with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide (Woolins' reagent, WR) in refluxing toluene to give a series of new 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-selenadiazoles (2a-t, 51-99% yield). Abstract:A mild and general procedure for the difluoromethylation of organochalcogen compounds has been accomplished via sulfoxide and selenoxide-directed [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement/Haller-Bauer reaction with difluoroenoxysilanes. The reactions showed good functional group compatibility, wide substrate applicability, and facile scalability. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the iterative use of this protocol to construct multi-CF2H-containing chalcogenides and the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract:A transition‐metal‐free method is disclosed for the construction of selenylated spirocyclohexadienones via cascade cyclization/dearomatization reaction of aryl phenol‐tethered alkynes with diselenides. The high efficiency of this protocol was demonstrated by room temperature, simple reaction conditions, and the ability to enable a gram‐scale synthesis. The experiment results implied that the dearomatization process proceeded in a radical way.

Abstract:Reaction of 2,4-bis(phenyl)-1,3-diselenadiphosphetane-2,4-diselenide [PhP(Se)(mu-Se)](2) (Woollins' reagent, WR) with one equivalent of 1,4-diarylbutane-1,4-diones 1a-g in refluxing toluene affords the corresponding 2,5-diarylselenophenes 2a-g in excellent yields (up to 99%). Alternatively, the 2,5-diarylselenophenes (2a and 2b) can be obtained in 70-80% yields from the reaction of arylacetylene with an equivalent of O-methyl Se-hydrogen phenylphosphonodiselenoate; the latter was derived from WR and methanol. The first X-ray structure of 2,5-diarylselenophenes is presented along with characterisation of their redox properties.

Abstract:The synthesis of hydrazone derivatives containing thiazole unit was achieved with condensation of thiosemicarbazones and ω‐bromoacetophenone at room temperature. This mild, convenient, and efficient method affords the desired products with good to excellent yields. Their structures have been determined by X‐ray diffractional analysis, 1 H‐NMR, MS, elemental analysis, and IR. Abstract:Eleven novel five-membered PSe2C2 heterocycles have been synthesised from [PhP(Se)(mu-Se)](2) (Woollins' reagent) and alkynes (one or two C C triple bonds) by insertion of a Ph(Se)PSe2 fragment into alkyne triple bonds. An unusual diselenide formed by an intramolecular cycloaddition/rearrangement is also reported. Abstract:Spiro rings such as spiroxindoles and spiroindanones are core skeletons in many pharmaceutically active molecules and natural products. Herein, we developed a copper-catalyzed cascade silylation-cyclization reactions of 1,6-diynes which enabled the rapid construction of silyl-functionalized spirocyclic compounds. A variety of racemic and optical pure spirocyclic oxindoles, indanone, quinolinone, and tetralone derivatives were obtained in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities and high stereoselectivities.
