Abstract:A new solvothermal method has been successfully prepared crystalline proustite Ag3AsS3 (1) by the reactions of As2O3, AgNO3 and elemental sulfur in diaminopropane (dap) at 160°C for 3days. The crystalline material of 1 was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and nonlinear optical determination. The three-dimensional polar framework of 1 is constructed by the linkages of unsymmetrical [AsS3] trigonal pyramids and T-shaped [AgS3] units via bridging S atoms. The absorption edge of 1 is 2.03eV, exhibiting properties of the semiconductor, and its theoretical band structure has also been studied. Photocatalytic experiments have shown the ability of 1 in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light (λ>420nm).

Abstract:Cubic anatase crystals was prepared in TiO2 sol, using Ti(OC4H9)(4) as a precursor in a designed Ti(OC4H9)(4), H2O, C2H5OH and HCl reaction system through sol-gel method. X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) analysis of the sol reveals that there is anatase structure in the liquid. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) micrograph also shows that there are in-suit cubic anatase crystals contained in the sol, which show different projection shapes under the electron beam in TEM. The sols can photodegrade Rhodamine B solution under Ultraviolet illumination, with a ratio of 55% in 15 min and 96% in 30 min.

Abstract:A novel solvothermal method has been successfully developed to prepare nanocrystalline CuSbS2 and Ag3SbS3 by the reactions between CuI and AgNO3 with SbCl3 and elemental sulfur in ethylenediamine at 140°C for 12 h, respectively. XRD, TEM and XPS examinations investigated the phase, grain size, morphology and purity of the products, respectively. Ethylenediamine played important roles in the formation of the ternary sulfides. A possible mechanism is proposed and expected to explain similar reactions.

Abstract:The charge density, differential charge density, band structure, density of states and absorption spectra of cubic structure Ag3PO4 were calculated by Material Studio software. The best function for calculating the Ag3PO4 crystal model is PBE0 with a lattice constant of 6.004 Å. In Ag3PO4 crystal system, the force between O–Ag is weaker than that between O–P, which leads to the photo-corrosion of Ag3PO4 material. The forbidden band width of the Ag3PO4 crystal is 2.47 eV. The light absorption boundary is approximately 520 nm. At the same time, the cubic phase Ag3PO4 was successfully prepared. The light absorption boundary value of the Ag3PO4 sample measured by UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is about 520 nm, and the forbidden band width is 2.41 eV. The results obtained by means of photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance absorption spectroscopy and degradation of organic pollutants are consistent with theoretical calculations. calculations.
On the reactivity of sulfosalts in cyanide aqueous media: structural, bonding and electronic aspects

Abstract:The reactivity of the ruby silver minerals proustite (3Ag(2)S⋅As(2)S(3)) and pyrargyrite (3Ag(2)S⋅Sb(2)S(3)) was studied with two types of electrodes: a carbon-paste electroactive electrode (CPEE) and a paraffin-impregnated graphite electrode (PIGE). Polycrystalline samples of α-Ag(2)S (acanthite), As(2)S(3) (orpiment), Sb(2)S(3) (stibnite), Ag(3)AsS(3) (proustite), Ag(3)SbS(3) (pyrargyrite), and three samples of the proustite-pyrargyrite solid solution series were synthesized from pure elements by a solid-state reaction method. Phase identification of samples was carried out by XRD and chemical homogeneity was checked by SEM-EDS. Besides, sulfosalts were characterized by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Flat-band and formal potentials of sulfosalts were determined by the Mott-Schottky method and differential pulse abrasive stripping voltammetry, respectively. Band structure, bonding and solid-state structure are considered to investigate the oxidation and reduction of the solids. A ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) transition from the AsS(3) (or SbS(3)) group to Ag is related to ease of reducing the pyrargyrite-proustite series. Despite the increase in the amount of As (Sb) in Ag(3)SbS(3) (Ag(3)AsS(3)), reactivity is similar due to the similarity of the solid-state structures, and the same oxidation states of S, As, Sb and Ag species in the lattice. However, the nature of the pnictogen (As or Sb) changes the position of the conduction and valence band edges and modulates the reactivity of the pyrargyrite-proustite series. Anodic dissolution occurs by hole transfer from the top of the valence band that is formed mainly by the states of the AsS(3) and SbS(3) groups. Meanwhile, silver reduction occurs by electron transfer from the Ag 5s orbitals located at the bottom of the conduction band. The difficulty in dissolving proustite and pyrargyrite in cyanide is related to the presence of pyramidal AsS(3) and SbS(3) groups in these sulfosalts.

Abstract:A mild route to ternary chalcogenidometalates Cu3Pd13S7 and Ag5Pd10S5 nanocrystals is proposed in this paper. Both compounds can be directly synthesized from the reaction of PdCl2, sulfur and CuCl2 or AgNO3 through solvothermal processes in diethylamine or ethylenediamine (en) at 140–160°C for 10 h. The final products have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). The formation mechanism of the nanocrystalline ternary chalcogenidometalates in the solvothermal process is also investigated.

Abstract:In literature, it is very difficult to obtain sulfides with Cr(3+) in tetrahedral coordination. Here, a thiourea-oxalic acid co-molten solvothermal method was applied to synthesize chalcopyrite CuFe(1-x)Cr(x)S2 (x ≤ 0.4) solid solutions. We propose that oxalic acid plays an important role in the crystallization of CuFe(1-x)Cr(x)S2 and can considerably restrain the formation of other undesirable impurities. The successful incorporation of Cr(3+) was confirmed by powder XRD, SEM and EDX mapping (2D elemental distribution). The UV-Vis reflectance spectra of CuFe(1-x)Cr(x)S2 suggest that the bandgap energies decrease from 0.80 to 0.61 eV along with an increase in the Cr(3+) concentration. All the CuFe(1-x)Cr(x)S2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) samples show considerably higher photocatalytic activities than P25 toward the reduction of nitrate ions in aqueous solution. We speculate that the thiourea-oxalic acid co-molten method may not only be effective to synthesize Fe(3+)-Cr(3+) sulfides, but can also be helpful to incorporate Cr(3+) to other sulfide systems with MS4 tetrahedra.

Abstract:A novel visible-light-active material was prepared by dispersion of AgI on amorphous TiO2 through simple one-pot process (AgI/Am–TiO2–S). For comparison, AgI sensitized TiO2 (amorphous, anatase and P25) were also prepared via traditional deposition–precipitation method. The samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, TGA–DSC, UV–Vis-DRS, BET, and etc. Larger specific surface area, negative shift of flat band potential, as well as greatly reduced charge transfer resistance were observed for AgI/Am–TiO2–S comparing to other samples. Moreover, with the same molar of initial Ti and Ag, the weight of AgI/Am–TiO2–S obtained was the heaviest, due to large amount of surface titania hydrate. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared AgI/titania samples were evaluated by the reduction of Cr(VI) in the absence or presence of organic pollutants (dyes, phenol). AgI/Am–TiO2–S always presented the highest photocatalytic activity. The estimated kCr(VI) on AgI/Am–TiO2–S was about 2 times that on AgI/P25–TiO2 in the absence/presence of RhB. Superior stability was also observed in the cyclic runs indicating that the as-prepared AgI/Am–TiO2–S is highly desirable for the remediation of Cr(VI)-organic co-contaminated wastewaters.

Abstract:A simple and convenient polyol-mediated route has been developed to produce nanocrystalline Ag3SbS3 and Cu3SbS3 from AgNO3 and Cu(NO3)2 and SbCl3 with thiourea at 197°C. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Analysis shows that glycol agitated state and injection rate have a great effect on the purity of the final products.

Abstract:The synthesis of atomically precise semiconductor Ag–S clusters is the subject of intense research interest, yet the formation mechanism of such nanoclusters remains obscure as fast nucleation process uncontrolled in solution. Herein, we have investigated the reaction mechanism responsible for {Ag32S3} nucleation using UV, ESI-MS, NMR and SCXRD. Triphenylphosphorus sulfide (PPh3S) was surprisingly found to slow down the kinetic process of the cluster nucleation. Furthermore, a key precursor of [Ag2(Ph3P=S)4]2+ has been captured, which is attacked by Agn(C≡CBut)m and traces of water to generate {Ag32S3}. This mechanism provides valuable new insights into the synthesis of inorganic magic-size clusters.

Abstract:A new compound of KCdAsS3 (M-r = 322.60) was successfully synthesized using thiourea reactive flux method. The crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound crystallizes in a monoclinic system of space group P2(1)/n with a = 5.9537(7), b = 16.633(3), c = 6.093(1) angstrom, beta = 90.781(3)degrees, V = 610.0(1) angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-c = 3.513 g/cm(3), mu(MoKa) = 10.52 mm(-1), F(000) = 592, R = 0.057 and wR = 0.136 for 899 observed reflections with I > 2 sigma(I). The crystal structure of KCdAsS3 features [CdAsS3]-layers, which are separated by K+ ions. First-principles calculations show that KCdAsS3 is an indirect band gap semiconductor with a band gap of 2.3 eV. The novel layered compound of tetrahedra CdS4 and pyramids AsS3 is potentially useful for photoluminescent, photocatalytic and photoelectric applications.

Abstract:Two novel porous three-dimensional (3D) quaternary thioantimonates(III) ACuSb2S4 (A = Rb, Cs) were successfully synthesized by employing the neutral surfactant PEG-400 (PEG = polyethyleneglycol) as reaction media, these are significantly different from the known quaternary A-Cu-Sb-S thioantimonates(III) with two-dimensional (2D) crystal structures. This is the first time that crystalline quaternary chalcogenides have been prepared in surfactant media. Both experimental and theoretical studies confirm they are semiconductors with narrow band gaps. Our results demonstrated that the surfactant-thermal strategy could offer a new opportunity to explore novel chalcogenides with diverse crystal structures and interesting physicochemical properties.

Abstract:We report optimized crystal growth conditions for the quarternary compound AgCrP2S6 by chemical vapor transport. Compositional and structural characterization of the obtained crystals were carried out by means of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. AgCrP2S6 is structurally closely related to the M2P2S6 family, which contains several compounds that are under investigation as 2D magnets. As-grown crystals exhibit a plate-like, layered morphology as well as a hexagonal habitus. AgCrP2S6 crystallizes in monoclinic symmetry in the space group P2/a (No. 13). The successful growth of large high-quality single crystals paves the way for further investigations of low dimensional magnetism and its anisotropies in the future and may further allow for the manufacturing of few-layer (or even monolayer) samples by exfoliation.

Abstract:By refluxing antimony trichloride (SbCl3) and thiourea in various solvents at suitable reaction conditions, antimony sulfide (Sb2S3) crystallites with a diversity of well-defined morphologies were synthesized. Sb2S3 rods with the average diameter of 800nm and the length of 7μm, as well as microtubes with the average outer diameter of 1.2μm, the average inner diameter of 800nm and the length of 8μm, were obtained in 1,2-propanediol at 180°C for 10min. In contrast, a series of experiments under different conditions were carried out to investigate the influencing factors on the reaction. The as-synthesized products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectra. The results indicate Sb2S3 crystals with different morphologies, including rod-like, tube-like, bowknot-like, flower-like, straw-bundled-like, taken under different experimental conditions. It is found that the reaction temperature, time, solvent and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (as a polymer capping reagent) play important roles in the formation of the final Sb2S3 crystallites with different morphologies. Also, the possible growth mechanism is discussed.
Synthesis of Ternary Chalcogenides in Cu-As-Se Systems by the Solvothermal Method in Organic Medium and Production of Nano-and Microparticles

Abstract:Ternary selenides CuAsSe2 and Cu3AsSe3 were synthesized by the solvothermal method from H [CuCl2]-As2Se3-C2H6O2 system. Nano and microparticles were obtained, and their physical and chemical properties were studied. During syntheses, sodium metaarsenite and copper (I) chloride are mixed in ethylene glycol, and a solution of Na2SeSO3 is added as a selenidation reagent according to stoichiometry. These solutions were added to an experimental vessel, placed in a Teflon cuvette, sealed, and placed in a microwave electric heater. The samples are kept in the oven at 413-443 K for 10 hours. After the process, the precipitate is filtered through a glass filter, washed first with dilute hydrochloric acid and distilled water, and finally with ethyl alcohol, and dried in a vacuum at 333-343 K. The productivity of the samples was 90-92 %. Compounds formed at a temperature of 453-473 K dissolve. Nanoparticles of compounds obtained at a temperature of 413-433 K have an irregular shape. Nanoparticles obtained at a temperature of 443 K are in the form of plates. The results of the X-ray phase analysis showed that the compounds correspond to cubic zirconia and belong to the Pm3m spatial structure. Lattice parameters of CuAsSe2 compound: a = 5.513 Å, Z = 2 and lattice parameters of Cu3AsSe3 compound: a = 5.76 Å, Z = 1. Based on DTA results, the CuAsSe2 compound melts congruently at 743 K, while the Cu3AsSe3 compound decomposes at 773 K.

Abstract:Two layered compounds Cs2Ag2Sb2S5 (1) and CsAgSb4S7 (2) were successfully synthesized using the mild solvothermal method with thiourea as a mineralizer. The syntheses of these two silver-containing quaternary sulfides indicates that thiourea is a novel effective mineralizer. Both compounds are semiconductors and compound 1 exhibits excellent photocurrent response property.

Abstract:Multi-arm PbS nanostructures were successfully synthesized by chemical synthesis via the reaction between lead acetate trihydrate and element sulfur by a solvothermal route. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used to characterize the PbS crystals. It was shown that well-dispersed and multi-arm PbS crystals were formed. It was also demonstrated that the morphologies of PbS crystals were significantly influenced by treatment temperature, reaction time and different sulfur sources. A growth process was proposed for the formation of multi-arm PbS crystals. The ultraviolet-visible absorption peak of PbS exhibited a large blue-shift and the luminescence spectra had a strong and broad emission band centered at 385nm.

Abstract:In the current paper, PbS micron crystals with a flower-like structure are reported via a simple aqueous-phase route under microwave irradiation, employing (CH3COO)2Pb, Na2S2O3 and H2O as the starting materials. No extra surfactants or templates were used. XRD and XPS analyses proved the formation of PbS in this simple system. The observations from TEM and SEM showed that the product composed of many flowers with micron size. Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns confirmed that the micron flower was single crystal. Experiments showed that the Pb2+/S2O32− mole ratio influenced the morphology of the PbS micro-crystals.
