Abstract:A range of terminal alkenes smoothly underwent palladium-catalyzed oxidative alkoxycarbonylation with carbazates under an oxygen atmosphere to afford structurally diverse α,β-unsaturated esters in moderate to good yields with excellent regioselectivity and E selectivity.

Abstract:The C-O bond cleavage for activation of alcohols is synthetically useful and practically challenging. This work describes carbazate as a new type of electrochemically activated alkylating agent derived from ubiquitous alcohols for direct functionalization of heteroarenes under mild electrolytic conditions. The simple undivided cell at low oxidative potentials with carbon/platinum electrode set-ups offers excellent substrate tolerance, affording a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl-decorated heterocycles in good chemical yields. Furthermore, the mechanism for this electrochemical deoxyalkylation reaction has been investigated.

Abstract:Palladium-catalysed oxidative carbonylation using oxygen as the oxidant is an economical approach; however, the gas mixture of CO and air has an explosive limit of 12.5–74.0% that could hamper extensive application of this process. Herein we report an electrochemical aminocarbonylation of alkynes under atmospheric pressure in an undivided cell without an external oxidant. The transformation has a broad substrate scope (83 examples) that involves primary amines and ammonium salts. Furthermore, mechanistic studies through cyclic voltammetry, in situ infrared and quick-scanning X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy reveal the reasons for this protocol proceeding smoothly under electrochemical conditions.

Abstract:Directly utilizing a chemical feedstock to construct valuable compounds is an attractive prospect in organic synthesis. In particular, the combination of C(sp(3))-H activation and oxidative carbonylation involving alkanes and CO gas is a promising and efficient method to synthesize carbonyl derivatives. However, due to the high C-H bond dissociation energy and low polarity of unactivated alkanes, the carbonylation of unactivated C(sp(3))-H bonds still remains a great challenge. In this work, we introduce a palladium-catalyzed radical oxidative alkoxycarbonylation of alkanes to prepare numerous alkyl carboxylates. Various alkanes and alcohols were compatible, generating the desired products in up to 94% yield. Remarkably, ethane, a constituent of natural gas, could be employed as a substrate under the standard reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed a probable palladium-catalyzed radical process.

Abstract:A photoinduced oxidative alkoxycarbonylation of alkenes initiated by intermolecular addition of alkoxycarbonyl radicals has been demonstrated. Abstract:An ipso- oxidation of allyl ether/decarboxylative aromatization cascade strategy is reported, resulting in the formation of N -alkyl pyrroles via oxocarbenium activation. This transformation, which involves formation of C — N bond and cleavage of C — O bond, provides a novel protocol that furnishes N -alkyl pyrroles in 29% ～ 71% yields with good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:An unprecedented oxidative arylation reaction of terminal alkenes with simple aroyl hydrazides has been developed under aerobic conditions for the stereoselective synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted alkenes. A range of aroyl hydrazides underwent palladium/copper-catalyzed oxidative Mizoroki-Heck reaction with terminal alkenes open to air in a 1:1 mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and acetonitrile to give structurally diverse 1,2-disubstituted alkenes in moderate to excellent yields with excellent regio- and E-selectivity. The reaction tolerated a wide variety of functional groups, such as alkoxy, hydroxy, amino, fluoro, chloro, bromo, cyano, nitro, ester, amide, imide, phosphine oxide, and sulfone groups, and, moreover, molecular oxygen and dimethyl sulfoxide were demonstrated to serve as terminal oxidants. This study provides a useful method for the stereoselective synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted alkenes through direct transformation of the vinylic CH bonds in terminal alkenes.
