Abstract:A highly enantioselective and regioselective substitution reaction of the Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates with nitroalkanes catalyzed by a quinidine-derived tertiary amine-thiourea catalyst has been developed. The described method, which is different from most organocatalytic allylic substitutions of the MBH adducts to date, represents a novel approach to regioselectively functionalize the MBH adducts.

Abstract:A stereoselective allylic alkylation of isatin-derived Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates with nitroalkanes has been developed. In the presence of 10 mol % beta-isocupreidine (beta-ICD), 3,3'-disubstituted oxindoles were prepared with moderate diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities.

Abstract:A highly diastereo- and enantioselective asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction with respect to prochiral 3-substituted benzofuran-2(3H)-ones and MBH carbonate by a chiral biscinchona alkaloid catalyst was investigated. The corresponding adducts, containing a quaternary center at the C3-position of the benzofuran-2(3H)-one as well as a vicinal tertiary center, were generally obtained in high yields (up to 97%) with very good diastereo- (up to 98:2 dr) and enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee).

Abstract:A highly efficient asymmetric allylic substitution of Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates with phosphorus ylides under the catalysis of modified cinchona alkaloids was developed. The reaction delivered products in moderate to good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98%ee) for a wide range of MBH carbonates. The scope of the reaction was demonstrated by the synthesis of chiral 3-substituted 2,4-functionalized 1,4-pentadienes.

Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov-type hydroboration of terminal alkynes with HBpin to access alpha-alkenyl boronates with good regioselectivity and atom economy is reported. A new ligand has been developed for the cobalt hydride catalyst that has been used for a unique Markovnikov selective insertion of terminal alkynes into metal hydride bond. This operationally simple protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance to deliver valuable alkene derivatives.

Abstract:A novel phosphine-catalyzed, highly enantioselective umpolung addition of trifluoromethyl ketimines to Morita-Baylis-Hillman carbonates was developed and it provides facile access to optically active trifluoromethyl amines with a chiral tertiary stereocenter under mild reaction conditions. The salient features of this reaction include general substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, good yields, high enantioselectivity, ease of scale-up to gram scale, and further transformations of the products.
