Abstract:Two novel norlignans, gymnothedelignans A and B were isolated from the whole plants of Gymnotheca chinensis. These norlignans possess a rare 2/5 epoxy benzocycloheptanone skeleton. Their structures were established on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectral data analysis, and the absolute stereochemistry of gymnothedelignans A and B was further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:Two new lignans, gymnothelignans V (1) and W (2), were isolated from a methanol extraction of Gymnotheca chinensis Decne. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. Compound 1 exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against the HCT116, HCT15, A549, MCF-7 and HepG2 cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 45.1 mu M, 26.9 mu M, 49.6 mu M, 30.0 mu M and 49.7 mu M, respectively. Compound 2 exhibited weak cytotoxicity against the A549 cancer cell line with an IC50 value of 41.3 mu M. (C) 2014 Phytochemical Society of Europe. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Two new neolignans, manneoinsigins A (1) and B (2), together with four known lignans, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Manglietia insignis. The new compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. All compounds except 2 were tested for their cytotoxic activity. Compound 3 showed weak cytotoxic activity against the HL-60 human tumor cell line with the IC50 value of 23.5 µM.

Abstract:Three new norlignans, glechomols AC (13, respectively), together with a known compound, 4-ethylcatechol (4), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Glechoma longituba (NaKai) Kupr. Their structures were elucidated by the detailed analysis of 1D and 2D NMR and HR-MS data. Glechomols AC were the first norlignans reported from genus Glechoma, and compound 4 was also isolated from genus Glechoma for the first time. Intracellular antioxidant assays showed that compounds 14 displayed significant protective effects on H2O2-induced cardiac cell injury.

Abstract:Two new norlignans together with two known phenylpropanoids were isolated from the whole herb ofAnemone vitifolia. All compounds were reported from this plant for the first time. The structures of these compounds were identified by comprehensive HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data analysis and comparison with literature data. Additionally, bioactivity study results showed that two new compounds have potential anti-inflammatory activity. The plausible biosynthetic pathway for these compounds were also speculated in this article.

Abstract:Four new biphenyl lignans, 1-4, with a tetrahydrofuran moiety were isolated from the MeOH extract of the whole plant of Gymnotheca chinensis. Their chemical structures were established by means of spectroscopic analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and comparison with previously reported data. Compounds 1-4 occur as mixtures of atropisomers as revealed by variable-temperature NMR experiments.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Abstract:Two new norneolignans, fimbricalyxinlignan A (1) and fimbricalyxinlignan B (2), together with other four known compounds (3–6), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Strophioblachia fimbricalyx. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic analyses, including 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS and ECD spectra. This is the first report of neolignans from S. fimbricalyx. Furthermore, new compounds with the same planar structure but different configurations can be found by comparing 13C NMR and ECD spectra.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Abstract:Six new norlignans, named sequosempervirins B–G (1–6), together with three known norlignans, agatharesinol (7), agatharesinol acetonide (8), and sugiresinol (9), were isolated from the branches and leaves of Sequoia sempervirens. Their structures were determined mainly by high‐resolution mass spectroscopy (HR‐MS), and various 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR methods, as well as, in the case of 1, by means of X‐ray diffraction. Compound 8 showed anticancer activity towards the A549 non‐small‐cell lung‐cancer cell line (IC50=27.1 μM). The acetone extract of S. sempervirens was found to be antifungal towards Candida glabrata (IC50=15.98 μg/ml), and both the acetone and MeOH extracts inhibited the proteolytic activity of cathepsin B (IC50=4.58 and 5.49 μg/ml, resp.).

Abstract:One new norlignan, namely noralashinol A (1), one known analogue (2), together with seven known lignans (3-9) were isolated from the stem barks of Syringa pinnatifolia. Their structures were elucidated extensively by spectroscopic methods, including mass spectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopies. Compound 8 significantly inhibited NO production in LPS-induced BV-2 murine microglia cells with its IC50 value of 20.7M, compared to a positive control quercetin with its IC50 value of 15.3M.[GRAPHICS].
