Abstract:Eight norlignan glucosides, including two novel skeleton-rearranged compounds, sinenside A (1) and B (2), and six known compounds, crassifoside D (3), capituloside (4), a mixture of (1S,2R)-1-O-methylnyasicoside (5), (1R,2R)-1-O-methylisonyasicoside (6), and a mixture of (1S,2R)-1-O-methylcurculigine (7) and (1R,2R)-1-O-methylisocurculigine (8), were isolated from the rhizomes of Curculigo sinensis. Compounds 3–8 were isolated for the first time from this plant. Structures of the isolated compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis, including UV, IR, HRESI-MS, and 1D/2D NMR, and hydrolysis experiments. The free radical scavenging activity of the isolated compounds was evaluated by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. All the isolated compounds showed strong radical scavenging activities.

Abstract:Two new norlignan derivatives, crassifoside I (1) and sinensigenin C (2), were isolated from the rhizomes of Curculigo capitulate, along with six known norlignan derivatives, 1,1-bis(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1-(2-furan)-methane (3), crassifogenin B (4), crassifoside A (5), breviscaside A (6), crassifoside D (7), and curcapital (8). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence and comparisons with literature data. The 1H and 13C NMR data of compound 3 was first assigned. Compounds 3–7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Two new norlignans, cedralins A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the leaves of Cedrela sinensis. Their structures were established by extensive spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence. Abstract:Three new norlignans, glechomols AC (13, respectively), together with a known compound, 4-ethylcatechol (4), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Glechoma longituba (NaKai) Kupr. Their structures were elucidated by the detailed analysis of 1D and 2D NMR and HR-MS data. Glechomols AC were the first norlignans reported from genus Glechoma, and compound 4 was also isolated from genus Glechoma for the first time. Intracellular antioxidant assays showed that compounds 14 displayed significant protective effects on H2O2-induced cardiac cell injury.

Abstract:Two new neolignans, manneoinsigins A (1) and B (2), together with four known lignans, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Manglietia insignis. The new compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. All compounds except 2 were tested for their cytotoxic activity. Compound 3 showed weak cytotoxic activity against the HL-60 human tumor cell line with the IC50 value of 23.5 µM.

Abstract:Six new norlignans, named sequosempervirins B–G (1–6), together with three known norlignans, agatharesinol (7), agatharesinol acetonide (8), and sugiresinol (9), were isolated from the branches and leaves of Sequoia sempervirens. Their structures were determined mainly by high‐resolution mass spectroscopy (HR‐MS), and various 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR methods, as well as, in the case of 1, by means of X‐ray diffraction. Compound 8 showed anticancer activity towards the A549 non‐small‐cell lung‐cancer cell line (IC50=27.1 μM). The acetone extract of S. sempervirens was found to be antifungal towards Candida glabrata (IC50=15.98 μg/ml), and both the acetone and MeOH extracts inhibited the proteolytic activity of cathepsin B (IC50=4.58 and 5.49 μg/ml, resp.).

Abstract:A novel norlignan derivative, crassifogenin C ( 1 ), and a known compound, curcapital ( 2 ), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the rhizomes of Curculigo crassifolia . Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and comparisons with literature data. Curcapital ( 2 ) was isolated from this plant for the first time. The free radical scavenging activity of the isolated compounds along with crassifoside E ( 3 ) and crassifoside F ( 4 ), which were reported previously, was evaluated by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. All compounds showed strong radical scavenging activity. The primary structure-activity relationship is also discussed.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Abstract:One new norlignan, namely noralashinol A (1), one known analogue (2), together with seven known lignans (3-9) were isolated from the stem barks of Syringa pinnatifolia. Their structures were elucidated extensively by spectroscopic methods, including mass spectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopies. Compound 8 significantly inhibited NO production in LPS-induced BV-2 murine microglia cells with its IC50 value of 20.7M, compared to a positive control quercetin with its IC50 value of 15.3M.[GRAPHICS].
