Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents of Acanthopanax senticosus.Methods A.senticosus was extracted with 75% EtOH and separated with petroleum ether and EtOAc,successively.The EtOAc-soluble fraction was isolated by column chromatography and RP-preparative HPLC.Their structures were identified by spectroscopic method(MS,1H-NMR,and 13C-NMR).Results Nineteen compounds were isolated from the EtOAc fraction of A.senticosus and identified as quercetin(1),quercitrin(2),kaempferol(3),hyperoside(4),rutin(5),acacetin(6),daidzin(7),3′-methoxydaidzin(8),puerarin(9),3′-methoxypuerarin(10),4′-methoxypuerarin(11),syringaldehyde(12),syringic acid(13),glucosyringic acid(14),isofraxidin(15),2,3-di(3′,4′-methyl-endioxy-benzyl)-2-buten-4-olide(16),l-sesamin(17),methylpluviatolide(18),and 4′-hydroxy-2′-methoxycinnamaldehyde(19).Conclusion Compounds 6—11,14,16,18,and 19 are isolated from the plants in Acanthopanax(Deche et Planch.) Miq.for the first time.

Abstract:To investigate the chemical constituents from the whole plants of Senecio chrysanthemoides.The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by chromatographic techniques over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, preparative TLC and preparative HPLC. Structures of the compounds were identified by NMR and MS spectroscopic methods.Twenty five compounds were obtained and their structures were elucidated as seneciphyline (1), senecionine (2) , 1,2-dihydrocacalohastine (3) , eu-desm-4( 15)-ene-1beta,6alpha-diol (4), 7,11,15-trimethyl- 3methylidenehexadecane-1,2-diol (5), faradiol 3-O-palmitate (6),maniladiol 3-O-palmitate (7), faradiol (8), maniladiol (9), beta-amyrin (10), alpha-amyrin (11), betulin (12), loranthol (13), (+)-syringaresinol (14) , 1-hydroxy-4-oxo-cyclohexane-1-acetate (15), 2, 6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone (16), stigmasta-5, 22-dien-3beta-hydroxy-7-one (17) , stigmasta-5, 22-dien-7-one (18) , stigmasta-4-en-3-one (19), stigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one (20), beta-sitosterol (21), stigmasterol (22), daucosterol (23), glycerol 1-hendecanoate (24), and methyl hendecanoate (25).Compounds 5-9,13, 17-20 and 24 were obtained from the genus Senecio for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Argyreia seguinii.Methods Compounds were isolated by Sephadex LH-20 and silica gel column chromatographies,and their structures were identified by spectral methods together with physiochemical analysis.Results Eleven known compounds were isolated from the aerial parts of A.seguinii.They were identified as β-sitosterol(Ⅰ),stigmasterol(Ⅱ),daucosterin(Ⅲ),scopoletin(Ⅳ),salicylic acid(Ⅴ),3,4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde(Ⅵ),Ntrans-p-hydroxyphenethyl coumaramine(Ⅶ),Ntrans-p-hydroxyphenethyl ferolamine(Ⅷ),3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester(Ⅸ),3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester(Ⅹ),and 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester(Ⅺ).Conclusion Compounds Ⅰ-Ⅺ are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:In present literature search, some cyano-containing compounds, which are very rare in plants, from the traditional anticancer herb Tiankuizi were reported. To find more cyano-containing compounds in the important plant Semiaquilegia adoxoides (DC) Makino (Chinese name Tiankuizi), the isolation of the chemical constituents was investigated for advancing the research. Two new compounds, a new alkaloid, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6-hydroxy-1-[(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)methyl]-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-isoquinolinium, named Semiaquilegine A (1), and a new ester, 3-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoic acid (4"-carboxyl)-phenyl ester (2), and four cyano-containing compounds, (Z)-6 alpha-(beta-D-glucosyloxy)-4 alpha,5 alpha-dihydroxy-2-cyclohexene-Delta(1),alpha-acetonitrile (3), (Z)-6 alpha-(beta-D-glucosyloxy)-4 alpha-hydroxy-2-cyclohexene-Delta(1),alpha-acetonitrile (4), lithospermoside (5), ehretioside B (6), as well as eleven known compounds, were isolated from the roots of Semiaquilegia adoxoides. The structures of new compounds 1 and 2 were elucidated mainly by 1D/2D-NMR techniques. Very unusual cyano-containing compounds 3 and 4 were first isolated from Ranunculaceae family. Hitherto, there were six cyano-containing compounds found in the herb.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents from the whole plants of Senecio chrysanthemoides. METHOD Constituents were isolated by using a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and ODS C18, as well as reversed-phase HPLC. Structures of the isolates were identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods. RESULT Eighteen glycosides were obtained from a H2O-soluble portion of an ethanolic extract of the whole plants of Senecio chrysanthemoides and their structures were elucidated as 5'-methoxyligusinenoside B (1), hyuganoside III b (2), citrusin A (3), alaschanioside A (4), citrusin B (5), dehydrodieoniferyl alcohol 4, gamma'-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (6), osmanthuside G (7), syringin (8), dehydrosyringin (9), 2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl) ethanol 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (10), 2-phenylethyl beta-gentiobioside (11), phenethyl beta-D-glucopyranoside (12), nikoenoside (13), benzyl beta-D-glucopyranoyl (1 --> 6 ) -beta-D-glucopyranoside (14), 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (15), icariside B2 (16), sonchuionoside C (17), and 1-[(beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy) methyl] -5,6-dihydropyrrolizin-7-one (18). CONCLUSION Compound 1 was a new lignan glycoside, and the remaining compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the antibacterial constituents of Senecio cannabifolius.Methods The antibacterial effect of all the extracts was tested in vitro with Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis(Gram-positive bacilli),and Escherichia coli(Gram-negative bacillus).Chemical constituents were isolated by chromatography.Physicochemical characters and spectroscopic analyses were employed for their structural identification.Results Five compounds were isolated and their structures were elucidated by chemical and spectral methods as follows: methyl-5-hydroxy-2-pyridinecarboxylate(E-13),6-hydroxy-7,7a-dihydro-2(6H)-benzofuranone(E-14),2-(1,4-dihydroxycyclohexanyl)-acetic acid(E-16),3-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid(E-17),and 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde(B-14).Conclusion All of them are isolated from the plants of Senecio L.for the first time.

Abstract:Three new compounds were isolated from the aerial part of Epimedium koreanum Nakai. On the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidences, they were elucidated as 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)-alpha-L-(4-acetyl) rhamnopyranoside-anhydroicaritin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, 2-(p-hydroxyphenoxy)-5, 7-dihydroxy-6-prenylchromone, and 7-hydroxy-3, 4, 6-trimethoxy-9, 10-dihydrophenanthrene-2-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside.

Abstract:From the seeds of the Celastrus angulatus plant, three new sesquiterpenoids (1 approximately 3) were isolated. Their structures were established, on the basis of UV, IR, mass and 2D NMR spectrometry, as 1beta-acetoxy-8alpha-benzoyloxy-9alpha, 13, -di(beta-nicotinoyloxy)-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1), 1beta, 2beta-dihydroxy-6alpha-acetoxy-8beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2) and 1beta, 2beta, 8beta, 9beta-tetrabenzoyloxy-6alpha-acetoxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (3).

Theaerial parts of this plant were collected from Rongan county, Guangxi province of PR China in April 2005 and thevouchers have been deposited in the Herbarium of the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, Shanghai Universityof Traditional Chinese Medicine.2. Previous workPyrrolizidine alkaloids and sesquiterpenes with a furanoeremophilane skeleton have been reported as the majorcomponents from the genus of Senecio (Bohlmann et al., 1977). Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (Batra and Rajagopalan,1977),phenolicacids(WangandTu,1980)andjacaranoneglycosides(Tianetal.,2006)havebeenpreviouslyisolatedfrom S. scandens.3. Present studyIn the present study of S. scandens, a new lactone, (E)-seneciolactone (1), together with nine known compounds(2e10) were isolated and their structures determined based on spectral methods. The stereochemistry structures ofseneciolactone (1) and (E)-cannabifolactone A (2) were ﬁrstly elucidated based on NOESYexperiment.

Abstract:Chemical investigation of the water extracts from the Senecio cannabifolius Less. led us to find two new compounds (1 and 2), along with 12 known compounds (3–14). The two new compounds were determined as (E, 4R)-4-hydroxy-4,5,5-trimethyl-3-(3-oxobut-1-enyl)cyclohex-2-enone (1) and (E)-4-((1S, 3R, 4R)-1-hydroxy-4,5,5-trimethyl-7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-1-yl)but-1-en-3-o-ne (2), respectively. The structures of other compounds were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectral data and in comparison with the literature values. Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated for inhibitory activity against lipopolysaccharide-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophages, and compound 1 showed potent inhibitory activity with IC50 value of 30.65 μM.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.
