Abstract:Two new flavonoids, uncinataflavones A (1) and B (2), along with one known compound 6-(5-carboxyl-2-methoxyphenyl)-apigenin (3), were isolated from Selaginella uncinata (Desv.) Spring. All these compounds belong to apigenin derivatives with aryl substituents at C-6 position. The structures of new compounds were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic analyses (UV, IR, 1D, and 2D NMR as well as HR-ESI-MS).

The structures of 1 and 2 were established on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis, while the absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were determined by a synthetic method. Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents from the whole plants of Senecio chrysanthemoides. METHOD Constituents were isolated by using a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and ODS C18, as well as reversed-phase HPLC. Structures of the isolates were identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods. RESULT Eighteen glycosides were obtained from a H2O-soluble portion of an ethanolic extract of the whole plants of Senecio chrysanthemoides and their structures were elucidated as 5'-methoxyligusinenoside B (1), hyuganoside III b (2), citrusin A (3), alaschanioside A (4), citrusin B (5), dehydrodieoniferyl alcohol 4, gamma'-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (6), osmanthuside G (7), syringin (8), dehydrosyringin (9), 2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl) ethanol 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (10), 2-phenylethyl beta-gentiobioside (11), phenethyl beta-D-glucopyranoside (12), nikoenoside (13), benzyl beta-D-glucopyranoyl (1 --> 6 ) -beta-D-glucopyranoside (14), 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (15), icariside B2 (16), sonchuionoside C (17), and 1-[(beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy) methyl] -5,6-dihydropyrrolizin-7-one (18). CONCLUSION Compound 1 was a new lignan glycoside, and the remaining compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study alkaloids of Senecio scandens growing in Guangdong.METHODS:The rapid resolution liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (RRLC-ESI-MS/MS) was used to analyse alkaloids of Senecio scandens growing in Guangdong, and senkirkine was isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography.RESULTS:Four alkaloids were identified as senkirkine, dehydrosenkirkine, monocrotaline and adonifoline, and senkirkine was firstly isolated from Senecio scandens growing in Guangdong.CONCLUSION:Senkirkine is the main component of Senecio scandens growing in Guangdong.

Abstract:Two new guaianolides (1 and 2) were isolated from the aerial parts of Ajania fruticulosa along with a triterpene (alpha-amyrin), two plant sterols (beta-sitosterol and daucosterol), four flavonols [santin (3), axillarin (4), centaureidin, and 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3, 3'-dimethoxyflavone], and five sesquiterpenes [ketoplenolide B, 9beta-hydroxyeudesma-4,11(13)-dien-12-oic acid, 9beta-acetoxyeudesma-4,11(13)-dien-12-oic acid, 1alpha,4alpha, 10alpha-trihydroxy-9alpha-angeloyloxyguaia-2,11(13)-dien-12, 6alpha-olide, and 3beta,4alpha-dihydroxyguaia-11(13),10(14)-dien-12, 6alpha-olide]. The structures of the new guaianolides were established as 1alpha-hydroperoxy-4beta,8alpha,10alpha, 13-tetrahydroxyguaia-2-en-12,6alpha-olide (1) and 1alpha-hydroperoxy-4alpha, 10alpha-dihydroxy-9alpha-angeloyloxyguaia-2,11(13)-dien-12, 6alpha-olide (2), respectively. Xanthine oxidase assays of all isolates revealed that santin (3) and axillarin (4) inhibited the enzyme with IC(50) values of 36.5 and 36.0 &mgr;M (that of allopurinol used as a positive control in the study was 24.2 &mgr;M), respectively.

Abstract:Extracts of the aerial parts of Scorzonera divaricata afforded sulfoscorzonin D (1) and sulfoscorzonin E (2), two novel pyrrolidine inner salt alkaloids with a sulfated guaiane sesquiterpene lactone nucleus, along with 22 known compounds. Especially, sulfoscorzonin D containing a unusual monoterpene moiety is very rare. The structures of new compounds were established using spectroscopic analysis including one- and two-dimensional NMR and HRESIMS. The cytotoxicities of compounds 1-4 and 10 against three tumor cell lines (K562, Hela, and HepG2) were evaluated using the MTT assay. Compounds 2 and 10 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity. The biological properties of 1-3, 5-8, 10-14, and 16-24, were screened against nine different gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
