Abstract:A new type of transesterification between aryl, heteroaryl, alkyl N-heteroarene-2-carboxylates and various aldehydes by C-H and C-O bond activations has been developed for the synthesis of versatile carboxylates. A possible mechanism containing oxidative addition of acyl-O bond in parent ester and radical cleavage of sp(2) C-H bond in aldehyde is proposed.

Abstract:A tetrabutylammonium iodide catalyzed method has been developed for the one-pot synthesis of allylic and benzylic esters from -oxo carboxylic acids and alkenes/alkylbenzenes via decarboxylation and C-H bond activation. Various allylic and benzylic esters were obtained in good yield.

Abstract:An efficient N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed oxidative esterification reaction of aldehydes with ethyl bromoacetate or bromoacetonitrile has been explored. This transition metal-free protocol allows access to a wide variety of alpha-acvloxyacetates and cyanomethyl esters in good to excellent yields under mild reaction condition.

Abstract:The C-O bond cleavage for activation of alcohols is synthetically useful and practically challenging. This work describes carbazate as a new type of electrochemically activated alkylating agent derived from ubiquitous alcohols for direct functionalization of heteroarenes under mild electrolytic conditions. The simple undivided cell at low oxidative potentials with carbon/platinum electrode set-ups offers excellent substrate tolerance, affording a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl-decorated heterocycles in good chemical yields. Furthermore, the mechanism for this electrochemical deoxyalkylation reaction has been investigated.

Abstract:Esters are valuable commodity chemicals widely found in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials. They are also important synthetic building blocks for chemical transformation. Recent advances of ester synthesis via transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation have provided highly efficient and atom-economical alternatives to the traditional methods. Herein, we summarize recent advances on ester synthesis via transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation. On the basis of the modes of reactivity and the types of C-H bonds, transition-metal-catalyzed alkoxycarbonylation of C-H bonds with various esterification reagents will be discussed in sections 2 and 3. Finally, hydroesterification/hydroacylation of C-C or C-O double bonds via formate C-H activation will be discussed in sections 4 and 5.
