Abstract:Unprecedented chemoselective reductions of phosphine oxides to phosphines proceed smoothly in the presence of catalytic amounts of specific Bronsted acids. By utilizing inexpensive silanes, e.g., PMHS or (EtO)(2)MeSiH, other reducible functional groups such as ketones, aldehydes, olefins, nitriles, and esters are well-tolerated under optimized conditions.

Abstract:A highly chemoselective reduction of phosphine oxides was demonstrated under the transition metal‐free and alkaline reaction conditions. During the reaction, P=O bond was firstly electrophilically activated by an anhydride and subsequently reduced by the versatile and cheap NaH which was strengthened by 15‐crown‐5. By the strategy, a variety of phosphine oxides including those bearing functional groups such as methyl, methoxyl, phenyl, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, trifluoromethyl, nitrile, ester, alkenyl, alkynyl and heterocycles were transformed readily into the corresponding phosphines in good to high yields. This work represents an efficient method for reducing phosphine oxides forming phosphines.

Abstract:Novel catalytic reductions of tertiary and secondary phosphine oxides to phosphines have been developed. Using tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDS) as a mild reducing agent in the presence of copper complexes, PO bonds are selectively reduced in the presence of other reducible functional groups (FGs) such as ketones, esters, and olefins. Based on this transformation, an efficient one pot reduction/phosphination domino sequence allows for the synthesis of a variety of functionalized aromatic and aliphatic phosphines in good yields.

Abstract:The (COCl)2/Hantzsch ester is found to be an effective system for the metal-free reduction of tertiary phosphine oxides. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, and is applicable to triarylphosphine oxides and alkyldiarylphosphine oxides to produce the corresponding tertiary phosphines in good to excellent yields. This new finding provides a practical, convenient and metal-free method for the reduction of tertiary phosphine oxides to tertiary phosphines, and shows potential application in organic synthesis.

Abstract:The reduction of phosphine oxideswithout the use ofhighly reactivereductants represents a safer and more sustainable solution for recyclingof organophosphorus compounds. Herein, we disclose an N,N,N & PRIME;,N & PRIME;-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA)-mediated reduction viaan unusual intermolecular hydride transfer. Mechanistic studies suggestthat TMEDA serves as a hydride donor, while the P(V) halophosphoniumsalt acts as the hydride acceptor. This methodology provides a scalableand efficient protocol to reduce phosphine oxides under mild conditions.

Abstract:An efficient, LiN(SiMe3)2‐mediated phosphorylation of terminal alkynes with chlorodiphenylphosphine oxide has been developed to synthesize alkynylphosphine oxides. This transition‐metal‐free protocol was featured with simple operation, mild reaction conditions, and broad substrate scope. The tolerance of halogen and ester substituents displayed the advantages of this new method over the traditional ones. In addition, the application potential was demonstrated by the gram‐scale reaction. When using diisopropyl chlorophosphate and chlorodiphenylphosphine, the corresponding alkynylphosphate and alkynylphosphine could also been produced.

Abstract:Selective oxidation of sulfides was successfully performed by employing phenyliodine diacetate as an oxidant with the catalysis of TsOH in aqueous solution under mild conditions. Sulfoxides were formed with 1.1 equiv of PhI(OAc)(2) at room temperature; whereas sulfones were obtained in the presence of 2.1 equiv of PhI(OAc)(2) at 80 degrees C under otherwise identical conditions. Notably, various sulfides were converted to corresponding sulfoxides or sulfones in good to high yields by this metal-free protocol. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:AbstractA highly regioselective ruthenium‐catalyzed hydroaminomethylation of olefins is reported. Using easily available trirutheniumdodecacarbonyl an efficient sequence consisting of a water‐gas shift reaction, hydroformylation of olefins, with subsequent imine or enamine formation and final reduction is realized. This novel procedure is highly practical (ligand‐free, one pot) and economic (low catalyst loading and inexpensive metal). Bulk industrial as well as functionalized olefins react with various amines to give the corresponding tertiary amines generally in high yields (up to 92 %), excellent regioselectivities (n/iso>99:1), and full chemoselectivity in favor of terminal olefins.

Abstract:A series of transition metal phosphides, including MoP, WP, CoP, Co2P, and Ni2P, were synthesized from their oxidic precursors by means of hydrogen plasma reduction under mild conditions. The effects of reduction conditions, such as metal to phosphorus molar ratio, power input, and reduction time, on the synthesis of metal phosphides were investigated. The products were identified by means of XRD characterization. It is indicated that metal phosphides were readily synthesized stoichiometrically from their oxides in hydrogen plasma under mild conditions.
